  1. When I first moved here 20 years ago, I left many times a year to work (self-employed data processing contractor). I retired about 15 years ago and have only left a few times since then. I've lived here now for about ten years.
  2. I'm an American and a US citizen. The most disappointing thing for me about Trump is that so many people (45% or more of voters) support him. I don't know if they really agree with everything he says or if they are just angry and dissatisfied with their lives and have just been conned by him. Whichever it is, it's very problematic to think there is any hope for my home country going forward. 🥹
  3. I'm not an AI. I'm an RI (Real Intelligence) or NI (Natural intelligence). I prefer RI. And, yes, you have my permission to say anything you want about me or anything else. It's your opinion, and as far as I'm concerned, you have the right to express it.
  4. I will be in Bangkok this weekend, $5,000 says you are a liar. Wanna meet up and look at my passport? Ill bring the cash and a video camera. How about it, big talker? Yagoda, be careful! I think if you look up the rules of this forum, you'll find it is NOT restricted to Americans only. Europeans, Asians, Australians, Middle-Easters, Africans, etc., can ALL participate in it.
  5. The general definition of "permit" just means having permission to do something or be somewhere. There are lots of specific terms for different kinds of permits, including a lease, a ticket, a license, a visa, etc... isThe expansiveness of RIs are demonstrated again. Hello.
  6. I am a citizen of the USA and lived there for most of my life. I am real, although I'm sure many of my answers are so thorough that they seem to be from an AI. I'm not an AI; I'm a RI (real intelligence). Yes, a permit to live in a privately owned apartment building issued by the owner is also called a "lease" and usually involves some financial arrangement.
  7. In the USA (I don't know about all of America), you need a government permit to build a house almost everywhere. After it's built, you need to have it inspected and approved to be allowed to live in it. You need a government permit to enter many places, like national parks, and you cannot live there unless you work there and need to do so, like a forest ranger. You need a permit from the owner of an apartment building to live there and even go in there. But if it's true that Chinese citizens cannot live in certain cities or places without a government permit, then that's just another example of how China is not a communist country. If China were truly communist, everyone would own everything equally, and no permit would be required to live anywhere.
  8. The White House The Halls of Congress All private property, like malls, assembly plants, etc. The list is endless.
  9. That may be true, but I was speaking more generally. In the USA, my home country, you need a permit to live and even just go in some places also. And if China was really communistic, everyone would own everything equally, so everyone could live wherever they wanted to.
  10. No, I don't know for sure. I only know what you claim. Until I see it for myself or, second best, see it on CNN or Wikipedia, I don't accept it as a fact.
  11. I don't know for sure. I don't follow the stories about Ukranine all that closely, but that could be the case. He probably has the power to do that.
  12. I have been to China, but only briefly. They are not communists as they claim to be. People in China work at jobs and receive a salary. They can choose how and where they live and pay for their residency with money from their salaries. All that is not communistic. It is capitalistic.
  13. I'm not aware that she was/is, but I would dislike that whether I was an author or not.
  14. I agree, but I suspect we define "taxing" and "taxes" differently.
  15. Vanity press? No, my books are in a lot of online bookstores and a few "real" bookstores.
  16. I primarily watch CNN. I don't consider it a window on reality, but do have faith in their reporting. I know what investing is. I'm just a socialist and anti-capitalism, so the only investing I would even consider approving is one that is based on some benefit, like services—not just greed.
  17. Thanks! And if you read it, you'll better understand just what is happening in Israel/Palestine right now. I end it with a quote from Richard Jeni, "Religious war at its simplest is killing each other over who has the best imaginary friend."
  18. No, just an informed realist.
  19. I am 78. I'll be 79 (I hope) in Jan 2025. What is it about my posts that make you think I know little about the world? I can assure you I am well-traveled and well-read. I think it is important to express opinions, especially mine. I've done so in the nine books I have authored and published. W. D. Smart (books2read.com)
  20. Yes, I had to look it up. And a book called the Torah is still being published in Israel, claiming that the land now in question was the "promised land" given to them by a delusion they call "God" (or Yahweh). I haven't heard of any assassination attempts on Harris, but that doesn't mean there haven't been any. I hope there hasn't been any and won't be any in the future. I am from the USA and am still a citizen. In fact, I have already successfully voted in the November elections.
  21. ...which was presumably a program of an extreme right-wing organization.
