Picture from responders. A heated altercation between two red songthaew drivers in Chonburi ended in death when one was struck by the other's vehicle during a confrontation on Sukhumvit Road in Saensuk sub-district on the morning of January 22. Police from Saensuk Police Station, led by Deputy Inspector Pol. Lt. Apirach Adirekpullap, responded to the scene at around 10:00, accompanied by rescue personnel from the Traikunatham Foundation. At the scene, they found the lifeless body of Mr. Ek 75, a songthaew driver. Rescue workers attempted CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Near his feet lay a knife, and parked nearby was his red Toyota Mighty-X songthaew, registered in Chonburi, operating the Sriracha-Nong Mon route. Eyewitness accounts revealed that the incident unfolded following a verbal argument between Mr. Ek and another songthaew driver. Mr. Ek had reportedly driven ahead, blocked the rival's vehicle, and exited his car brandishing a knife. Moments later, he was struck by the rival's red Isuzu D-Max songthaew, registered in Chonburi. A bystander, Mr. Pakpoom, who was passing by to deliver food, told reporters, "I saw the injured man lying face down with a knife at his feet. He was unresponsive, and I immediately called rescue services." The other driver, Mr. Samak 70, later surrendered himself at Saensuk Police Station. Speaking to officers, he explained that the incident stemmed from an earlier argument at the taxi queue. After the argument, I left with my passengers, but he followed me, determined to confront me again. At the scene, he overtook me and stopped abruptly, blocking my path. He got out of his car and approached me with a knife in hand. I panicked and tried to swerve to avoid him, but I ended up hitting him. I had no intention of harming him and came straight to the police station to turn myself in," Mr. Samak stated. Police have since impounded both vehicles and are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the full sequence of events. Further investigations and questioning of Mr. Samak will be conducted before any legal action is taken. -- 2025-01-23

Picture from responders. A sad discovery was made in Pathum Thani’s Khlong Luang District on the evening of 21 January, when the body of a 26-year-old man was recovered from a canal after being missing for two days. At approximately 19.00, police from Khlong Luang Police Station were alerted to the presence of a body in Canal 4, near Soi Khlong 4 West 23/1 in Moo 9, Khlong Si Subdistrict. Rescue divers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, forensic officers from Thammasat University Hospital, and local foundation staff were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a Honda Click motorcycle, registration number from Bangkok, parked near the canal. A pair of white sandals and a blue shirt were left on the embankment. After a 20-minute search, divers located the body submerged in the water. The deceased was identified as Mr. Thanongsak Kamthong, aged 26, who had likely been dead for about 24 hours. The victim’s mother, Mrs. Khonthai Kamthong, 62, tearfully recounted that her son, who worked as a delivery driver, had lived with her but stayed in a separate room. He left their home at Wat Kla Cha-um Housing Estate at around 14.00 on 20 January. Despite her attempts to call and locate him, there was no response. Mrs. Khonthai was only informed of her son’s whereabouts when police contacted her, asking if she was the owner of the abandoned motorcycle. She rushed to the scene, where she found that her son had drowned. “He never talked about any problems. I don’t understand why this happened,” she lamented. Mr. Somporn Pathumya, 55, the village head of Moo 9, explained that a resident had reported seeing the motorcycle parked by the canal at 16.00 on 20 January. The vehicle remained there at 18.00 with a person seated nearby. By the next morning, the motorcycle was still present, but the individual was nowhere to be seen. The sight of sandals and a shirt left on the bank led Mr. Somporn to notify the authorities, suspecting someone had jumped into the canal. Police Sub-Lieutenant Warut Phumipak of Khlong Luang Police Station oversaw the investigation and documented the scene. The body was sent to the Thammasat University Hospital forensic unit for further examination to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations are ongoing as family and authorities seek answers to the events leading up to this incident. The impact threw the victims onto the road, while the motorcycle was dragged for 80 metres before the car came to a stop. The Phahonyothin Police Station was alerted to the collision at 05.00. Officers, accompanied by rescue volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation, arrived at the scene on the two-lane road near Soi Sena Nikhom 1 Intersection 28. Two women, aged approximately 40 to 45 years, were found deceased at the scene. Both victims had severe injuries and were lying in pools of blood. One victim had her ankle severed, and neither had any identification on them. About 80 metres away, a white Mercedes-Benz CLS 220d was found in the middle of the road, heading towards Ladprao-Wang Hin Road. The front right side of the car had sustained damage, the headlight smashed, and the windscreen cracked. Both airbags had deployed. Nearby, a damaged Yamaha Grand Filano motorcycle was discovered, with its rear wheel detached from the body of the vehicle. The driver of the Mercedes, identified as Ms. Fueanglada, 29, remained at the scene to provide her statement to the authorities. Picture of arrest In the early hours of 22 January at 02:05, Pol. Sub-Lt. Phupha Hongyakul, Deputy Inspector of Pattaya City Police Station, received a report of an assault at Pattaya Beach, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Officers were dispatched to the scene immediately. The victim, identified as Ms. Supannanee, 59, a beach mat rental vendor, sustained facial injuries, including a forehead wound, after being punched by a fellow vendor. She informed police that she confronted the suspect after accusing him of stealing her mats. The man denied the accusation, became agitated, and punched her in the face. She speculated that jealousy over her more successful mat rental business might have fueled his actions. The suspect, who was visibly intoxicated, staggered to meet the police and slurred his confession. He admitted to punching Ms. Supannanee but claimed he was provoked by her accusations of theft. Witnesses at the scene confirmed that both individuals work as mat rental vendors at Pattaya Beach. They reported that the altercation began when the victim identified her mats based on distinct markings. However, the suspect had allegedly removed the markings, leading to a heated argument that escalated into violence. Police have taken the suspect into custody for further investigation and legal action. Authorities reiterated the importance of resolving disputes peacefully. -- 2025-01-23

Picture from responders. At midday on 22 January, police from Pak Phanang Police Station in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province received a distressing report of a child drowning in a shrimp pond in Moo 6, Pak Praek Subdistrict, Pak Phanang District. Officers, along with rescue personnel from the Pracharuamjai Foundation, rushed to the scene. The incident occurred behind a house identified as No. 3. Relatives had already retrieved the lifeless body of 2-year-old Sitthinan “Dew” Meesawat from the shrimp pond. Despite attempts at CPR and a rushed transfer to Pak Phanang Hospital, the boy was pronounced dead before arrival. The event left family members devastated, particularly Ms. Yaowadee Bangmuang, 43, the boy’s mother, who collapsed twice, once at the scene and again outside the hospital emergency room. According to Ms. Yaowadee, her husband Mr. Manoch Meesawat 61, had left for work that morning. She remained at home with their son, Dew, and his grandmother. While preparing lunch in the kitchen, Ms. Yaowadee left the boy with his grandmother in a locked room. However, upon returning, she discovered the door ajar and Dew missing. A frantic search ensued inside the house, around the property, and near the shrimp pond behind their home. Unable to locate Dew, she turned off the pond’s oxygen circulation system, at which point his body floated to the surface near the pond’s edge. Despite immediate efforts to rescue him and seek medical assistance, the boy could not be saved. Preliminary investigations suggest that Dew may have unlocked the door and wandered outside to the shrimp pond, where he fell in and drowned. Medical professionals will conduct a full post-mortem examination to confirm the exact cause of death. -- 2025-01-23

Picture from responders A fatal crash involving a pickup truck carrying migrant workers left two dead and five injured in Thong Pha Phum district, Kanchanaburi, during the early morning of January 22nd. The driver, who fled the scene, was later apprehended at a hospital after providing suspicious statements. Emergency responders from the Thong Pha Phum Rescue Foundation received reports of the incident at approximately 04:15. They rushed to the scene, located near the Phatad Waterfall in Hin Dat sub-district, along with police officers from Thong Pha Phum Police Station. The white Toyota Revo pickup truck, registered in Bangkok, had crashed into a roadside tree, leaving its front severely damaged. Inside the vehicle, rescuers found two deceased individuals, a man and a woman, seated in the back of the cab. Their identification cards revealed they were Myanmar nationals. Four other injured passengers had already been transported to a nearby hospital by local residents. Authorities suspect the driver was speeding, as the crash occurred on a sharp curve where their vehicle appeared to have lost control before slamming into the tree. At around 03:30, prior to the official discovery of the crash, a severely injured man arrived at a local hospital seeking medical assistance. He claimed his injuries were the result of falling at his home. However, hospital staff grew suspicious of his story and alerted the police. Investigators now believe the man, who remains unnamed, is the driver of the crashed truck and have arrested him. Authorities are also looking into whether the vehicle was part of a network involved in the illegal transport of migrant workers. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash and any potential connections to human trafficking operations. -- 2025-01-23

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A 26-year-old French man has been arrested in Bangkok for posting explicit videos of intimate encounters with Thai women on social media, police announced. The suspect, referred to only as Mr. K, was detained at his condominium in the Chatuchak district following a raid by officers from the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division. The search, authorised by a warrant from the Northern Bangkok Criminal Court, uncovered electronic recording devices, adult items and toys. Police Colonel Jirapong Rujidarongchai, who led the investigation, revealed that authorities had received intelligence regarding a foreign national allegedly sharing explicit materials online and using social media to solicit sexual encounters. When confronted with video evidence, Mr. K admitted to being the individual in the recordings. He claimed his actions were a result of youthful indiscretion and insisted he had stopped these activities over a year ago. However, Police Lieutenant General Chairit Anurit, commander of Immigration Division 3, dismissed this explanation, stating: “The offense had already been committed. Digital footprints cannot be erased, and ignorance of the law is no excuse.” Mr. K now faces charges under Thailand’s computer crime laws for uploading and distributing obscene data, as well as charges relating to the production and dissemination of explicit content. Lieutenant General Chairit condemned the suspect’s actions as a threat to public morality and an embarrassment to Thailand’s reputation. He noted that the case is particularly troubling as some women involved were unaware they had been filmed or that the footage had been shared online. Authorities have urged potential victims to contact the Immigration Bureau’s Investigation Division for legal assistance. “This case is a silent threat to society. It shows that while someone may claim to stop such behaviour, the damage has already been done,” Lieutenant General Chairit added. -- 2025-01-22

Picture from responders. At approximately 11:45 on January 21, a collision involving two vehicles occurred on Phahonyothin Road near a U-turn in front of the Superman Ice Cream Factory, Talay Chupsorn, Lopburi. The crash left multiple people injured, prompting an emergency response from Narai Maharaj Hospital’s rescue team and volunteers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. At the scene, a black Nissan Navara pickup truck (license plate from Lopburi) was found with its front severely damaged. Retired Major General Wanchai Toyoprakan, 78, was trapped in the wreckage. Emergency responders provided first aid and transported him to Narai Maharaj Hospital. The second vehicle, a bronze-gold Toyota Fortuner (license plate from Lopburi), was also heavily damaged. The driver, retired Lieutenant Booncherd Suwan, 64, was trapped in the vehicle alongside two passengers, Mrs. Supap Suwan, 62, and a two-year-old boy, Jarukit Suwan. All were rushed to Ananda Mahidol Hospital for treatment. Eyewitness accounts and footage from local CCTV cameras revealed that the pickup truck, traveling inbound from Ananda Mahidol Hospital intersection, encountered a car attempting a U-turn at the location. The car executed the manoeuvre abruptly and failed to clear the lane, forcing Major General Wanchai to swerve into oncoming traffic. This resulted in a head-on collision with the Fortuner traveling from the Erawan intersection. Police officers have documented the scene and a thorough investigation, including further interrogation of both parties and review of CCTV footage, is ongoing to ensure legal action is taken. -- 2025-01-22

Picture from responders. A fire broke out on a lorry carrying a large load of sugarcane near a U-turn on Highway 317 between Sa Kaeo and Chanthaburi. The incident occurred in Ban Wang Nam Fon, Wang Mai Subdistrict, Wang Sombun District, Sa Kaeo Province. Both the truck and its trailer were completely engulfed in flames. According to reports, the fire erupted late in the morning of January 21. The driver managed to jump out of the vehicle and attempted to extinguish the fire, but strong winds intensified the flames, quickly spreading across both the main truck and its trailer. Fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. The location of the incident was near the U-turn at Ban Wang Nam Fon, on the route heading from Wang Nam Yen District towards the Saha Dairy Cooperative Junction in Wang Sombun District. Highway police from Sa Kaeo province were dispatched to manage traffic. Vehicles travelling from Wang Nam Yen towards Wang Sombun and Chanthaburi were temporarily diverted to a special contraflow lane. Meanwhile, firefighters from the Wang Mai Subdistrict Administrative Organisation, Wang Sombun Municipality, and Wang Nam Yen Town Municipality deployed multiple fire engines to tackle the blaze. The fire was brought under control after nearly an hour of efforts, followed by additional time for cleanup operations. Traffic flow resumed once the area was cleared. Preliminary investigations suggest the fire started when sparks, possibly from nearby sources, landed on the sugarcane. The situation was exacerbated by strong winds, resulting in the rapid spread of the flames. The truck was reportedly on its way to deliver the load to a sugarcane factory when the incident occurred. Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire. -- 2025-01-22

Pictures from responders. A crash occurred on the evening of 21 January when a car driver lost control, veered off the road, and violently crashed into an electricity pole, almost splitting it into two. The driver, a 59-year-old man, lost his life at the scene, trapped inside the tangled wreckage. At 19:00, Police Lieutenant Sutthas Majeaw, Deputy Inspector at Cha-am Police Station, received a report of the accident along Phetkasem Road, inbound, near kilometre marker 179 in Don Khun Huay Subdistrict, Cha-am. Emergency responders, including a medical team from Cha-am Hospital and rescue personnel from the Sawang Sanphech Dharma Foundation, were dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, authorities discovered a severely mangled Toyota car (registration from Bangkok) lodged around the electricity pole. The impact had wrapped the car around the pole and scattered personal belongings and documents across the scene. The driver, identified as Mr. Thanakorn, a resident of Wang Manow Subdistrict, Pak Tho District, Ratchaburi, was found crushed against the steering wheel inside the wreckage. Using hydraulic cutters, rescue workers extracted Mr. Thanakorn’s body from the wreckage. CCTV footage revealed that the car had been travelling normally along the road before suddenly losing control, veering off, and crashing into the pole at speed. Authorities suspect the driver may have experienced either a sudden medical issue or fallen asleep at the wheel. Rescue teams noted that the pole had tilted due to the impact, with wires pulled down around the wreckage. To prevent further hazards, two large cranes were called in to stabilise the pole before the vehicle could be safely removed. The incident caused significant traffic congestion, with vehicles backed up for several kilometres. The body was transported to Cha-am Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police are continuing their investigation into the crash and will coordinate with the driver’s family for funeral arrangements. -- 2025-01-22

Local police from Sattahip Police Station and rescue volunteers from Sawang Rojanatham Foundation responded to the incident at the scene near the engineering department of the Sattahip Naval Base, heading towards Chuk Samet Port Road. Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless body of a woman lying at the roadside. She had sustained severe facial injuries and was bleeding heavily. Rescue workers attempted CPR but were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim was later identified as Miss Sombun Chomsiri, aged 36, an employee of Best Tech and Engineering Co., Ltd. Nearby, a black Yamaha NMAX motorbike, missing its licence plate, was discovered with significant front-end damage. The stationary vehicle involved, a white Isuzu D-Max pickup truck (registration from Chachoengsao), had visible rear-end damage. The truck’s owner, Mr. Jirayu Kammanichan, aged 30, who worked at the same company as the deceased, arrived to provide his statement to the police. According to Mr. Jirayu, his truck had broken down earlier that morning at around 07:00, forcing him to park on the roadside. He was later informed of the collision and rushed to the scene. Lieutenant Thanit Theepakdee, Deputy Inspector of Sattahip Police Station, revealed preliminary findings, suggesting that Miss Sombun was on her way home as usual when the incident occurred. The area was reportedly poorly lit due to broken streetlights, making the road extremely dark, which likely caused her to crash into the parked truck. Authorities are now investigating further to determine fault. Mr. Jirayu may face charges of negligence resulting in death for parking his vehicle on the roadside without adequate warning measures. -- 2025-01-22

Picture from responders. On the morning of January 21, a high-speed police chase in Rayong province resulted in the arrest of two drug traffickers, the seizure of methamphetamine pills, and injuries to five police officers. The incident occurred in Khao Chamao district after a sting operation was set up to apprehend the suspects. Led by Police Colonel Phatthanchai Phamor Phiboon, officers from Khao Chamao Police Station organised a drug-buying sting at the Khao Chong Lom intersection in Moo 4, Cham Kho Subdistrict. When the suspects, Mr. Pojanart, 38, and Ms. Chutima, 46, arrived in a black Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, police attempted to make an arrest. However, the driver, Mr. Pojanart, sped off in an attempt to escape. In the ensuing chase, the suspects rammed two police vehicles. The first collision damaged an Isuzu pickup belonging to the authorities, injuring Police Lance Corporal Kritmeth Denduang, who was inside the vehicle. The chase continued toward the Prasae Reservoir Road, where another police vehicle attempted to block the suspects. Mr. Pojanart rammed into this vehicle as well, injuring Police Sub-Lieutenant Sitthichai Klaipan, Police Sergeant Major Udon Thanda, Police Corporal Patcharaporn Suphannawong, and Police Lance Corporal Setthasak Wongamat. During the pursuit, the suspects threw methamphetamine pills from their vehicle, which were later recovered by police. The chase ended when the suspects’ pickup truck collided with an embankment and became immobilised. Police apprehended Mr. Pojanart and Ms. Chutima at the scene, while a third suspect, identified as Mr. Methee, managed to flee on foot. A subsequent search of the suspects’ vehicle revealed additional methamphetamine pills. Further investigation led Mr. Pojanart to guide police to a location in Moo 11, Wang Wa Subdistrict, Klaeng District, where officers seized more methamphetamine pills. Both Mr. Pojanart and Ms. Chutima confessed to possessing the drugs with the intent to distribute them to customers. They were charged with possession of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell. They, along with the confiscated evidence, have been handed over to investigators at Khao Chamao Police Station. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the third suspect, Mr. Methee, who remains at large. -- 2025-01-22
