A horrifying accident in a mango orchard has left a 49-year-old woman severely injured after her legs were caught and mangled by a power shaft connected to a pesticide sprayer attached to a tractor. At approximately 15:00 on November 19, police from Phanat Nikhom Police Station and rescue workers from Sawang Het Ban Thung Hiang responded to an emergency call at Moo 14, Nong Hiang Subdistrict, Phanat Nikhom District, Chonburi. Upon arrival, rescuers found an orange Kubota tractor equipped with a pesticide sprayer. The sprayer was powered by a rotating steel shaft connected to the tractor. The woman, who was overseeing the pesticide operation, had her legs caught in the spinning shaft when her trousers became entangled. Her legs were severed, leaving her in critical condition. Rescue workers quickly extricated the remains of her legs from the shaft, stopped the bleeding, and dressed her wounds before rushing her to the nearby hospital for emergency treatment. A worker at the scene, responsible for manually spraying pesticides, recounted the incident. He explained that the injured woman was operating the tractor and monitoring the sprayer attached to its rear. While he was busy spraying, he heard a loud noise and turned to see the woman entangled in the shaft. He immediately shut off the engine and alerted coworkers to contact the authorities. The accident is believed to have occurred when the woman's trousers were caught by the spinning shaft while she was standing near the sprayer, causing her legs to be pulled in. Authorities are investigating further and will proceed with appropriate legal actions. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-20

Authorities from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), led by the Consumer Protection Police Division (CPPD), have dismantled a counterfeit network selling fake Ensure Gold powdered milk. The operation resulted in the seizure of 5,370 cans of the fraudulent product across 13 items, with an estimated total value of 4.5 million baht. The proliferation of online sales platforms has made health products more accessible but has also increased the prevalence of counterfeit goods. Following complaints from consumers and reports from the manufacturer, police discovered fake Ensure Gold products being sold online. This powdered milk, marketed for seniors at risk of malnutrition, is often used as a primary or supplementary meal. Consumption of counterfeit products could lead to health risks, as they may lack the expected nutrients or contain harmful substances. On November 15, officers from CPPD Unit 4 executed search warrants at two locations in Nakhon Chai Si District, Nakhon Pathom: 1. Packing Facility: A residential property in Khun Kaew Subdistrict was found to house 1,535 counterfeit cans of Ensure Gold (vanilla flavor, 850g) and related packing equipment. A man named Mr. Monop and a woman named Ms. Wiriya were arrested while packing products for shipment. 2. Storage Facility: Another residential property in the same area contained 3,840 counterfeit cans of Ensure Gold (vanilla flavor, 850g) and packing materials. A Chinese national, Mr. Chen, claimed ownership of the site. In total, 5,375 cans of counterfeit products and related items were seized from the two locations. The counterfeit network advertised fake products online, using Chinese-language store names and offering the milk powder at discounted prices (690 baht for an 850g can, compared to the usual 1,000+ baht). The network frequently changed store names to evade detection. The operation employed local residents for packing and shipping, promising monthly wages of 15,000 to 30,000 baht. A suspect revealed that they were hired by a Chinese individual, Mr. Wang, to pack and dispatch orders daily through private courier services. In just 15 days, the team now handled 100–200 orders per day. Samples of the counterfeit product will be tested by the Department of Medical Sciences to identify any prohibited substances. If found unsafe, the perpetrators could face additional charges under the Food Act, which imposes penalties of up to two years in prison, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both. Currently, the following charges apply: 1. Selling counterfeit food: Punishable by 6 months to 10 years in prison and a fine of 5,000 to 100,000 baht. 2. Selling mislabeled food products: Punishable by a fine of up to 30,000 baht. Authorities urge the public to be cautious when approached with offers to pack and ship products, as they may unknowingly participate in illegal activities. Picture courtesy of CIB -- 2024-11-20

A fire broke out at a tissue paper storage warehouse in Soi Petchngam, Phraeksa Mai, Samut Prakan, narrowly avoiding a complete disaster. Thanks to the swift actions of workers from a nearby warehouse, who used chemical fire extinguishers, moved stock and called the fire service, the blaze was contained before it could engulf the entire facility. The incident occurred at approximately 18:00 on November 18. Pol. Lt. Col. Samai Charoenrat of Bang Pu Police Station received the report and dispatched multiple fire engines from the Phraeksa Mai Municipality and neighbouring districts to the scene. The fire originated in Warehouse 10 of a large storage complex, which was filled with stacks of tissue paper. Workers from nearby warehouses helped to move some of the stock outside while firefighters battled the flames. Due to the fire burning beneath the stacks of tissue paper, firefighters had to cut through the warehouse’s sheet metal walls to directly spray water on the flames. After approximately 50 minutes, the fire was successfully extinguished. Initial inspections revealed that part of the warehouse had been modified into an office area. The stored tissue paper suffered partial damage, but fortunately, no injuries or fatalities were reported. Mrs. Areewan Moka, 54, the warehouse manager, stated that the warehouse was leased to another party. She had previously warned the tenants about fire hazards and the improper stacking of goods, which made it difficult to access the area for maintenance. “I advised them to leave clear walkways, but they didn’t organize the space properly,” she said. A nearby warehouse worker noticed the fire and alerted her, allowing the situation to be addressed quickly. Mrs. Chananchida Kerdsawat, 45, the head technician, mentioned that the fire appeared to have started in the middle of the warehouse. The facility was closed at the time, and she had locked it at around 16:00, seeing no signs of any issues. By 18:00 smoke was spotted coming from the building. “The warehouse has electrical wiring running in rows, but the exact cause is still unclear,” she noted. Mr. Saeng Saikaew, 31, a supervisor at a neighbouring warehouse, said he saw the fire while working nearby. “I grabbed a hammer to break open the door, as no one was inside. We used 12 fire extinguishers to try to control the flames while calling the fire department,” he explained. Police have recorded the incident and will coordinate with forensic officials to investigate the cause of the fire further. Legal proceedings will follow as necessary. In a swift operation, police apprehended a 27-year-old man who snatched gold necklaces weighing four baht and attempted to flee a mall in Bangkok. The suspect was intercepted near the roadside shortly after the incident, thanks to vigilant citizens and rapid police action. On November 18, around 15.00 officers from the Bukkhalo Police Station, including Pol. Col. Chattakit Phadungchanthanai and Pol. Lt. Col. Prasert Chana-akson, arrested Thanus “Art” Prasakha, a resident of Kalasin province. The arrest took place near Soi Somdet Phra Chao Taksin 40 in Thonburi District, Bangkok. Police seized three gold necklaces weighing four baht in total, concealed in the left front pocket of the suspect’s black jacket. The man was charged with robbery after he confessed to snatching the items from a gold shop located at the Big C Dao Khanong branch. The incident began when the suspect entered the gold shop pretending to shop for necklaces. After requesting the staff to display several pieces, he seized three gold necklaces and fled on foot. The store immediately alerted the police, providing a description of the suspect, who was wearing a black jacket and jeans. Acting on the tip-off, a police team rushed to the area and spotted a man matching the description running away near the mall. Citizens who witnessed the theft were also pursuing the suspect, shouting for assistance. The officers quickly intercepted him, leading to his arrest. During questioning, Thanus admitted to the robbery, revealing he had concealed the stolen necklaces in his jacket. He stated that he had taken advantage of an opportune moment during the shop staff’s distraction. The gold necklaces were confiscated as evidence, and the suspect was informed of his rights and charges before being handed over to investigators for legal proceedings. The police have since praised the cooperation of the public and the prompt response of officers, ensuring the suspect was caught before he could escape further. Picture from CCTV -- 2024-11-20

Passenger Van NGV Catches Fire, 6 Passengers Escape: Driver Ignored Vehicle Issues A public passenger van operating on the Buriram-Korat route was completely engulfed in flames. A public passenger van operating on the Buriram-Korat route was completely engulfed in flames on the afternoon of November 19. Fortunately, all six passengers managed to escape unharmed. The driver admitted he was unfamiliar with the vehicle and noticed irregularities before the fire broke out. Passengers revealed overhearing a conversation between the drivers about replacing faulty parts prior to departure. The incident occurred at approximately 16:00. Police Lieutenant Thanat Nakornthaisong, an investigator at the Buriram City Police Station, received a report of a van fire on the four-lane Buriram-Nangrong highway, just outside Buriram City. The blaze erupted near a seafood restaurant. Firefighters and rescue teams from Sawang Chanayatham Foundation were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, a white 13-seat van, license plate from Nakhon Ratchasima, was fully engulfed in flames. The passengers, consisting of one man, four women, and a student, were visibly shaken but safe. Firefighters took 20 minutes to extinguish the fire, but the van was completely destroyed. Boonthan Yophoth, 62, the substitute driver, stated that he does not regularly drive this vehicle. The usual driver was on leave, and the manager had asked him to take over. According to Boonthan, the van had just been parked and had not undergone a mechanical check before departure. Boonthan started the journey from the Buriram bus terminal en route to Nakhon Ratchasima. About 5 kilometres from the terminal, he noticed smoke billowing from the engine compartment. He immediately pulled over to inspect the problem, but the fire ignited before he could act. He quickly opened the van doors, allowing all passengers to escape safely. He noted that the van was not fully occupied and the doors opened smoothly, which helped avoid casualties. Moments later, multiple explosions were heard due to the van running on CNG. Amphorn 49, one of the passengers, shared that before boarding the van, she overheard a conversation between the drivers about the need to replace certain parts. However, she was unsure what the issue was and assumed it was safe to travel. The ride proceeded as usual until the incident occurred. The authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and whether negligence played a role. Passengers are calling for stricter vehicle inspections to ensure public safety. A powerful explosion rocked a tangerine ripening facility in Na Phun Subdistrict, Wang Chin District, Phrae Province, on the evening of November 18, leaving two injured and causing significant structural damage. The blast occurred at a fruit stall warehouse, near the Na Phun Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO) office. Police Lieutenant Thaksin Palachai of Na Phun Police Station and team were among the first responders to the scene. The facility, a newly constructed high-roofed steel structure, suffered extensive damage. The roof was punctured by a large hole, and crates of tangerines were strewn across the floor. Two individuals sustained injuries: the owner of the facility suffered head wounds, while a worker experienced a ruptured eardrum. Both victims were transported to Wang Chin Hospital by emergency responders from Na Phun SAO. Preliminary investigations revealed that the explosion occurred during a routine ripening process. At the time ripening gas was being used on 200 crates of green-skinned tangerines to enhance their colour and market appeal. While the workers and the owner were having dinner nearby, the gas is believed to have ignited, resulting in the devastating blast. The facility is one of the largest buyers of tangerines in the area, making the incident a significant blow to local agriculture. The exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, prompting authorities from the Phrae Provincial Forensic Office to launch a detailed investigation. Residents reported hearing the explosion up to 30 kilometres away, underscoring the intensity of the blast. Initial damage assessments reveal the facility’s roof and walls suffered major structural harm, and nearby properties, including the Na Phun SAO office, sustained minor damage. Police and forensic experts continue to investigate potential causes, including the possibility of chemical reactions or improper handling of the ripening agents. The incident occurred on November 17, at approximately 13.05 at the entrance of Banglamao Soi 2. According to the victim, she was riding on a motorcycle with her partner, who was driving her to work, when the collision happened. A Russian driver exited the side street without yielding to oncoming traffic, causing the motorcycle to crash. The woman was thrown from the vehicle, suffering injuries. The injured couple sought medical attention immediately after the accident and attempted to negotiate damages with the Russian driver the following day, November 18. Efforts to resolve the matter outside of court have been unsuccessful. The Russian driver reportedly refused to pay any compensation for the damages and injuries, advising the victims to pursue legal action instead. The woman, who described herself as a struggling daily wage worker, has been left without an income due to her injuries. She expressed frustration at the lack of accountability and fairness in the situation, stating, “I’m already struggling to make ends meet, and now I’m hurt and unable to work. One male driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Bang Lamung Hospital for treatment. The incident happened at kilometre marker 158+738 on the railway line road. The locomotive, identified as D.5110, was operating without carriages as part of Train No. 553 and had departed Pattaya station at 18:31. Upon reaching the Khao Talo crossing, the automatic barrier reportedly failed or lowered late, leading to the collision with the car, which bore license plate registered in Bangkok. The driver, identified as Mr. Kraiwith Hiranyueararakul, a local football academy coach, sustained minor head injuries and abrasions. Rescue personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Pattaya Foundation arrived promptly at the scene and transported him to Bang Lamung Hospital. Mr. Kraiwith recounted the tmoments leading up to the collision. He was returning home when traffic near the railway crossing came to a standstill. As he attempted to cross the tracks, the warning barriers descended, trapping his car. Despite frantic attempts to move forward or reverse, he found himself unable to escape due to heavy traffic. “I honked repeatedly to alert the car ahead, but nothing worked,” Mr. Kraiwith said. “I heard the train’s horn blaring and realised I was out of time. At the last second, I decided to steer to the side to try to avoid the train hitting my car straight on. It was the only thing that saved me.” Mr. Thawatchai, 39, the train driver, explained he was en route to Rayong Province when he spotted the SUV obstructing the tracks. “I sounded the horn multiple times and applied the brakes, but the train couldn’t stop in time,” he said. The locomotive sustained some damage to its grounding cable and axle components. Despite this, it was cleared to continue its journey to its final destination. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision, focusing on the functionality of the automatic barrier system. UPDATE Technicians Admit to Altercation, Claim Self-Defense Two men, identified only as Manuchchai, 30, and Jakkrit, 28, arrived at Muang Pattaya police station to report the assault incident. Both men, technicians working at a South Pattaya entertainment venue, admitted to assaulting the tourist but alleged they acted in self-defense after the Briton became aggressive. According to Mr. Manuchchai, the British tourist had been drinking heavily at a bar on Soi Bua Khao. Unable to secure a taxi, the men volunteered to drive him home in the early hours of November 19. However, the tourist reportedly became loud and aggressive, attempting to attack them. "We tried to calm him down, but he refused to listen and forced us to turn into the wrong lane," Mr. Manuchchai explained. "When we pulled over, he struck our truck, causing damage. He started a fistfight with us. Things escalated, and we traded punches. After the incident, we drove away, not expecting the police would be looking for us. We want to assert our innocence. We were attacked first despite our good intentions to help." Police are reviewing security footage from the area to determine the sequence of events and ensure a fair investigation. Police will continue to investigate the incident, interviewing all parties involved and analysing CCTV footage to establish accountability. -- 2024-11-19
