Police officers from the Samrong Nuea Police Station were alerted at approximately 22.20 on October 15, to a fire at a rental building in Soi Dan Samrong 20, Samrong Nuea Subdistrict, Mueang District, Samut Prakan. Several residents were reported to have suffered from smoke inhalation, prompting an immediate response from firefighters, rescue teams, and paramedics from Samut Prakan Hospital. The fire occurred in a 5-story building with around 300 rental rooms. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the building, and rescue teams, assisted by local residents, quickly worked to evacuate the elderly and bedridden residents. Initial reports confirmed that 27 individuals were affected by smoke inhalation. First aid was provided on-site, and five of the more seriously affected victims were transported to the hospital for further treatment. Firefighters discovered that the fire originated in a room on the second floor. The blaze was quickly brought under control with water hose-lines. However, the room where the fire started was completely destroyed, and smoke had spread throughout the building. Firefighters used positive pressure fans to ventilate the structure and clear the remaining smoke. According to a neighbour living next to the room where the fire started, they heard noises and discovered flames in an unoccupied room. Smoke quickly filled the neighbouring units. Another resident on the second floor recalled hearing someone shouting about the fire, and when she opened her door, the hallway was already filled with smoke. Mr. Pichai Warin, a 31-year-old resident, attempted to use a fire extinguisher to combat the blaze but was overwhelmed by the heavy smoke. Along with a group of fellow tenants, he tried to extinguish the fire, but it quickly became too intense, forcing them to retreat and wait for the firefighters. Local village headman, Mr. Thongchai Tianbang, confirmed that the fire was contained to the second floor, with no deaths reported. Most residents affected by smoke inhalation received oxygen treatment at the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation, with initial suspicions pointing to an electrical short circuit. Ms. Chitramas Chongjit, 29, the tenant of the room where the fire started, stated that she had left a fan running for her cat while she was away. She suspects that an electrical fault may have caused the fire, as the building and its electrical systems are quite old. Authorities have taken initial photos and recorded statements at the scene. A full investigation will follow to determine the exact cause of the fire and ensure appropriate legal actions are taken. Pictures from responders. -- 2024-10-16

A young woman tragically jumped from the 12th floor of a well-known condominium near the Rama 9 intersection in Bangkok, at approximately 22.00 on October 15. Rescue teams arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported. The woman, aged between 20-30 years, was found on the 5th floor pool area, having sustained fatal injuries. Preliminary reports indicate that the woman’s clothing was in disarray, her shirt had been unbuttoned completely, and she was only wearing underwear on her lower body, with no bra. Her body showed visible injuries, including an open wound on her right ankle. Investigators from Huamark Police Station, led by Pol. Lt. Kowit Kraikruan, arrived at the scene and worked closely with forensic specialists from the police hospital and evidence officers. Initial interviews suggest that the victim had been with her boyfriend shortly before the fall. Witnesses reported hearing a loud argument from the 12th floor room, followed by screams. One witness captured a video of the incident, which showed a man standing on the balcony of the room where the fall occurred. The victim’s boyfriend, who is currently being questioned by the police, admitted they had been arguing prior to the tragedy. He stated that the dispute was fueled by jealousy, and the victim had threatened to jump several times before. Unfortunately, he was unable to prevent her from leaping to her death this time. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances to determine whether foul play was involved or if it was a case of suicide. The crash occurred on October 15, on the Sa Kaeo provincial road between the permanent border crossing at Ban Khao Din and Khlong Hat (Highway SK.4058). Pol. Lt. Ekkawut Phetsombat of Khlong Hat Police Station responded to reports of a head-on collision involving multiple casualties. Upon arrival at the scene in Khlong Hat District, authorities discovered a black four-door Isuzu pickup truck, its front severely damaged and blocking the road. Inside the vehicle, rescuers found 68-year-old Mr. Leochai, the driver, injured but clutching his 5-year-old grandson, who was also hurt but still in his arms. In the front passenger seat, Mrs. Somsri, 65, Mr. Leochai’s wife, was also trapped and injured, with another grandson, aged 6, suffering injuries inside the vehicle. Rescue teams rushed all victims to Khlong Hat Hospital. The other vehicle involved was a gray Toyota car, which had crashed into a sugarcane field beside the road. The driver, Mr. Thanakorn, 41, was found injured and trapped inside his car. He was promptly taken to the hospital. Tragically, four Cambodian nationals were found dead near the Toyota, having been ejected from the vehicle on impact. The deceased included Mr. Lua, 43, another unidentified man in his 30s, and a 5-year-old Cambodian boy. Initial investigations revealed that the Toyota sedan, carrying five Cambodian nationals including the driver, had been traveling from the Ban Khao Din border market towards Khlong Hat, while the pickup truck was headed in the opposite direction. The accident took place on a secluded stretch of road lined by sugarcane fields, where the vehicles collided at high speed. Authorities are continuing to investigate and will interview both drivers before filing any charges. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-16

Indian Man Falls from 15th Floor of Luxury Hotel in Thonglor A 29-year-old Indian national fell to his death from the 15th floor of a luxury hotel in the Thonglor area. His body was found dangling from the fifth-floor balcony roof. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1340810-indian-man-falls-from-15th-floor-of-luxury-hotel-in-thonglor/ -
A 29-year-old Indian national, Mr. Yash Dashrath Bhanushali, fell to his death from the 15th floor of a luxury hotel in the Thonglor area. His body was found dangling from the fifth-floor balcony roof, partially suspended with his legs entangled in the metal frame. Police believe the fall may have been caused by cannabis intoxication, as products were found in his hotel room. The incident occurred at around 02.00 on October 14, when Thonglor Police Station was alerted to the fall. Investigating officers, along with forensic experts and rescue personnel, arrived at the scene to find Mr. Bhanushali’s upper body hanging from the balcony roof, while his legs were caught on the frame. Blood pooled on the ground beneath him, and his shirt had slipped off, resting in his hands. He was dressed in black pants, and there were no immediate signs of a struggle. A search of his hotel room on the 15th floor revealed several packages of cannabis products scattered on the desk and floor. Police have collected the items as evidence. No signs of forced entry or a disturbance were noted, and the room appeared undisturbed. According to hotel security guard Mr. Suriwat Khewnoi, he heard a loud thud around 01:30, prompting him to check the security cameras. Footage showed Mr. Bhanushali falling from the 15th floor and landing on the fifth-floor balcony. Further investigation revealed that the window in his hotel room, located at room 1519, was left open. Mr. Bhanushali had been staying alone since October 6 and was scheduled to check out on October 15. Surveillance footage from October 13 showed that Mr. Bhanushali had left the hotel and returned at 20:04. There were no visitors or other entries to his room after that time, suggesting that he may have fallen from his own window. The body has been sent to the Police General Hospital’s Forensic Institute for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy has been contacted to notify the victim’s family and arrange for the repatriation of his remains. The crash occurred at approximately 16.00 October 15, on a slippery road in Klaeng, Rayong, when a truck collided with a Ford four-door pickup truck, killing two parents instantly and leaving their younger daughter critically injured. The accident occurred on the Ban Na Bypass, Klaeng District, Rayong Province, following heavy rainfall that caused the road to become dangerously slick. Upon receiving the report, officers from the Klaeng Police Station and the Buddhast Rescue Unit rushed to the scene. They found a closed-container truck, having veered off the road. Behind the truck, on the road, lay the wreckage of the black Ford pickup truck, with its roof torn open and the cabin crushed beyond recognition. Inside the pickup truck were four family members: a father, mother, and their two daughters. Tragically, both parents died at the scene, while their 12-year-old daughter sustained severe injuries. Their 15-year-old daughter, though injured, was in a stable condition. Rescue workers quickly transported both girls to Klaeng Hospital for further treatment. The deceased parents were later identified as Mr. Rawit, 43, and Mrs. Benjamas, 37 (last names withheld). Family members, who learned of the accident through a live broadcast on a local Facebook page, “Nirat Mueang Klaeng,” arrived at the scene but were too grief-stricken to provide statements. According to the truck driver, Mr. Phakdee, 35 (last name withheld), he had been driving from Chonburi, en route to Khao Chamao in Rayong, when the crash occurred. As he approached the Ban Na Bypass, another vehicle abruptly cut in front of him. The slippery road conditions from the rain prevented him from braking in time. In an attempt to avoid hitting the car in front, he swerved to the right, only to collide with the oncoming Ford pickup. Mr. Phakdee expressed deep remorse over the tragic outcome. Police are currently gathering evidence to proceed with legal action regarding the incident. The family was reportedly heading back to their home in Khao Chamao, Rayong, at the time of the crash. Khon Kaen residents have lauded local police and rescue workers as heroes after they used a ladder and climbed over a wall to rescue a man trapped in a bathroom during a house fire, narrowly saving him from the flames. The incident occurred at 00:30 on October 15, when Police Colonel Yodwat Kaewsuebthanyanich, Superintendent of Muang Khon Kaen Police Station, received an emergency call about a house fire in the Non Than area of Khon Kaen Municipality. Upon arrival, the officers found the fire raging uncontrollably, prompting a quick response from both police and rescue teams. Inside the burning house, they first discovered a woman, Mrs. Thaptim Kiemthep, who was unable to escape and she was safely carried out, but inform rescuers that her husband was still in the burning building. Police Sergeant Major Methawut Petchsri and Police Lance Corporal Thanadech Dejsiri, both on patrol in the Non Than district, along with rescue workers from Sawang Khon Kaen Samakkhi Foundation, decided to use a ladder and climbed over a wall, as the only way to rescue the man trapped inside the burning house. The husband, Mr. Seksan Kiemthep, was discovered to be stuck in the bathroom. The officers after climbing the wall, had to cut through a metal roof, before pulling Mr. Seksan out. He had inhaled a significant amount of smoke and was rushed to Khon Kaen Hospital for treatment. Initial investigations revealed that the fire started when a meal was being cooked using a LPG stove and it quickly spread throughout the home. The fire also spread to an adjacent house which was filled with old storage items, making the fire difficult to control. Sergeant Major Methawut said, “When we received the call from the Kaen Nakhon radio centre, we rushed to the scene. The fire was intense, and the fire service was preparing to extinguish it. Locals informed us that people were trapped inside, so we worked with the rescue team to help them. The woman was responsive, but the man was unconscious. Despite the difficulties, we managed to save both of them.” Police Colonel Yodwat confirmed that a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the exact cause of the fire, with forensic officers expected to examine the scene later. Car Cuts Off Ambulance Twice While Transporting Patient from Khon Kaen to Chonburi A road rage incident involving a private ambulance and a reckless driver took place as a car dangerously cutting off an ambulance twice while it was transporting a patient from Khon Kaen to Chonburi for treatment. Full story: https://aseannow.com/topic/1340731-car-cuts-off-ambulance-twice-while-transporting-patient-from-khon-kaen-to-chonburi/ -
A road rage incident involving a private ambulance and a reckless driver took place early on October 15. A video clip shared by Facebook group “Udon Has Checkpoints, News, Molam, and Events” shows a car dangerously cutting off an ambulance twice while it was transporting a patient from Khon Kaen to Chonburi for treatment. The incident occurred at 03:05 as recorded by the dash-cam of the private ambulance. The ambulance was traveling in the right lane when a white car overtook from the left, abruptly cut in front of the ambulance, and slowed down. The ambulance driver moved to the left lane to pass. However, the same car again overtook from the right and repeated the dangerous manoeuvre, stopping in front of the ambulance as if attempting to cause a crash. The ambulance’s sirens were activated in an attempt to alert the driver, but the car continued its erratic behaviour . The ambulance driver later explained that two other cars carrying the patient’s relatives were following closely behind and witnessed the entire incident. The driver stated, “We were driving from Khon Kaen towards Chonburi for medical treatment when this car suddenly appeared, cutting in front of us with high beams on. I initially thought the driver might have been startled, so I switched lanes. However, the car overtook us again and repeated the same reckless action.” He emphasised that there had been no previous altercation with the car driver and that the ambulance had been driving normally, with his blue lights on. He urged the driver responsible for the dangerous behaviour to reflect on the potential consequences, saying, “If the patient in the ambulance had been their own family member, how would they feel?” The incident is under investigation, with many online expressing concern over the dangers of such reckless driving, particularly when it could endangers lives in an emergency situation. Authorities were alerted at 07.40 on October 14, to an attempted suicide on a pedestrian bridge along Route 331, near Ban Khao Hin School in Bo Win, Sriracha. The Bo Win Police Station’s 191 Radio Centre received a report that a man was threatening to jump from the bridge. Upon receiving the report, Pol. Col. Anek Sarathongyu, Superintendent of Bo Win Police Station, promptly dispatched officers to the scene. Rescue workers from Bo Win’s Public Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office and the Si Latham Bueng Rescue Unit were also called to assist. When authorities arrived, they found a man wearing a black t-shirt and a sarong sitting on the edge of the pedestrian bridge. He refused to let anyone approach, threatening to jump if they did. Police quickly cordoned off the area to prevent any bystanders from interfering and brought in an interpreter to communicate with the distressed individual. Despite the police’s efforts to talk him down, the man, later identified as Mr. Yu Zin, a 27-year-old Myanmar national, waved them off, refusing to negotiate. For over 30 minutes, officers tried to de-escalate the situation, but Mr. Yu Zin continued to threaten to jump. A responders in civilian clothes pretended to cross the bridge and at a critical moment, took advantage of the man’s brief distraction, talking to those below, to safely grab and pull him back from the edge. Upon inspecting him, authorities found that Mr. Yu Zin had sustained three self-inflicted stab wounds to his face. Through the interpreter, Mr. Yu Zin revealed that he was deeply stressed, homesick, and without money to return to Myanmar, which led to his suicidal thoughts. Rescue workers provided first aid on-site before transporting him to Laem Chabang Hospital for further treatment. Police have contacted Mr. Yu Zin’s relatives to ensure he receives support moving forward. In a shocking incident on October 14, a man was found dead on the roof of a construction materials store along Prasert Manukit Road, is believed to have died from electrocution while attempting to steal electrical wires. The discovery was made opposite Lertlah School, in the Nawamin area of Bueng Kum district. At approximately 07:30 Police Lieutenant Colonel Witthaya Khongthong, an investigator from Khok Kram Police Station, responded to a report of an unidentified body found on the rooftop of the V.S.B. Home Co., Ltd., a store specialising in construction supplies. The deceased, a man of unknown identity with no identification documents, was found in a decomposed state, lying face down with his head and arms hanging off the roof. Two metal rods, each about one foot long, were found tucked into the waistband of his jeans, and investigators estimate that he had been dead for three to four days. A pair of wire cutters and a bicycle were found nearby, leading police to believe that the man had been attempting to steal electrical wiring from the store. Lieutenant Colonel Witthaya stated that early in the morning, a Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officer noticed the body on the roof and immediately notified the police. Based on the evidence, including a severed electrical wire and a pair of sandals found near a power pole, authorities suspect that the man had been trying to steal electrical cables when he was fatally electrocuted.
