Cars Including an EV Catch Fire After Being Submerged in Flood Water, Chiang Mai A fire broke out involving an electric vehicle (EV) submerged in floodwaters at a home in Chiang Mai. The flames also involved a nearby pickup truck, causing significant damage. Full story : https://aseannow.com/topic/1340114-cars-including-an-ev-catch-fire-after-being-submerged-in-flood-water-chiang-mai/ -
A fire broke out on the evening of 6 October, involving an electric vehicle (EV) submerged in floodwaters at a home in Chiang Mai. The flames also involved a nearby pickup truck, causing significant damage. Rescue officials reported that two other vehicles were also affected by the heat of the fire, sustaining partial damage. The Chiang Mai Charity Rescue Association and fire crews responded to the emergency after being alerted to the situation. Upon arrival, they discovered the source of the fire was the submerged vehicles including an electric vehicle. Initially using water from buckets in the flood water, they managed to control the fire, before a single hose-line was able to reach the fire after being dragged through the flooding. Despite the difficulty of working in waterlogged conditions with flood levels reaching around 30 centimetres the fire was extinguished in approximately 20 minutes. A total of four vehicles were impacted: two were completely destroyed by the fire, the EV and the pickup truck, while two additional vehicles suffered partial heat damage. The fire occurred in a residential parking area that had been inundated by floodwaters. The homeowners had already evacuated due to the severe flooding, and authorities are now investigating the exact cause of the fire, the first vehicle burning was believed to be the EV, but there was no evidence of thermal runaway from the Li-ion battery. Further inspections by police and forensic teams are expected to take place once water levels drop, allowing full access to the vehicles. Pictures from responders. -- 2024-10-08

Two rice harvesters were electrocuted on October 7, in a paddy field in Sam Khok District, Pathum Thani, after mistakenly grabbing a live electric wire they thought was a grounding cable. Despite resuscitation efforts, both men died at the scene. The incident occurred at around 13:00 near the Prem Prachakorn Canal, Moo 2, Ban Pathum Subdistrict. Police and emergency services were alerted and arrived with medical examiners from the Ministry of Justice and rescue personnel from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation. Upon arrival, rescue workers and medical staff from Krung Siam Saint Carlos Hospital attempted to resuscitate the victims. Unfortunately, despite all efforts, the two men were pronounced dead shortly afterward. The victims were identified as Mr. Yossak, 58, from Chiang Rak Noi Subdistrict, and Mr. Phongsakorn, 18, from Tai Koh Subdistrict, both in Sam Khok District. Both men had severe burn marks on their bodies from the electric shock. Niphon, a 45-year-old tractor driver who was working alongside the victims, recounted the tragic events. He explained that they were hired to harvest rice and noticed a wire hanging over the paddy field. The victims believed it was just a grounding wire and offered to remove it. However, when they touched it, they were instantly electrocuted. Niphon quickly grabbed a wooden stick to dislodge the wire and called for help, but it was too late to save them. “I didn’t think something like this could happen,” Niphon said, visibly shaken. Police Lieutenant Chanikan Sethienshaikit of Sam Khok Police Station led the investigation at the scene. Authorities photographed the site for evidence, and the bodies of the two men were transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine under the Ministry of Justice for further examination. An autopsy will be carried out, though initial findings point to electrocution as the clear culprit. Picture from responders. -- 2024-10-08

Man Found Burned with Truck on Southern Seaboard Road, Krabi Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man whose body was discovered burned alongside a pickup truck on Southern Seaboard Road. The victim was a partner in a resort located in Koh Libong, Trang Province. Full story : https://aseannow.com/topic/1340110-man-found-burned-with-truck-on-southern-seaboard-road- -
Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man whose body was discovered burned alongside a pickup truck on Southern Seaboard Road. The victim has been identified as a 70-year-old man from Bangkok, a business partner in a well-known resort located in Trang Province. The tragic incident, which occurred on the evening of October 6, has left investigators working to determine the full circumstances behind his death. The burned vehicle, a half-cab pickup truck with license plate from Trang, was found completely destroyed by fire in the median of the Southern Seaboard Road, Moo 1, Ban Klang Subdistrict, Ao Luek District, Krabi. Nearby, the charred remains of the man were discovered, initially making identification impossible. Preliminary investigations by the police revealed that the vehicle was registered to a resort in Trang Province. Investigators are currently looking into the case, but it remains unclear if foul play is involved, as no signs of physical assault or injury were found on the body. On the morning of October 7, 2024, a team led by Pol. Col. Pitsanu Puangprom, Deputy Commander of Region 8, and Pol. Col. Weerayut Sittiratnakul, Ao Luek Police Station Chief, returned to the scene for a more thorough investigation. Evidence collected, including testimonies from witnesses, led authorities to identify the victim as Mr. Wigr, a 70-year-old resident of Bangkok and a partner in a resort located in Koh Libong, Trang Province. According to Pol. Col. Pitsanu, the investigation suggests that the victim may have been suffering from severe emotional distress. The current theory is that he may have started a fire inside the vehicle, possibly attempting to end his life. However, as the fire intensified, it is believed that he exited the vehicle in a panic but ultimately collapsed and died near the truck. While this is the leading theory, police are still awaiting the results of a full autopsy from the hospital. Investigators are also preparing to interview the victim’s wife, who is expected to provide more information. A local resident who was riding a motorcycle behind the victim’s vehicle reported seeing him turn into an oil palm plantation shortly before the truck was engulfed in flames. As the investigation continues, police are working to piece together the events leading up to the fire and whether any other factors were involved in the victim’s death. Authorities are urgently investigating the tragic deaths of a family of four, after a woman allegedly shot and killed her husband, a former municipal councillor, along with their two teenage children, before taking her own life in a luxury home. Upstairs, the body of the 40-year-old wife was found in the bedroom, holding a 9mm handgun, while the body of their 17-year-old daughter was discovered in another bedroom. Initial investigations suggest that the wife shot her husband, who was a former local government councillor, as well as her son, a 10th-grade student at a prestigious local school, and her daughter, a 12th-grader preparing for university entrance exams, before turning the gun on herself. Police suspect the motive may stem from family-related issues, but further investigation is ongoing, with relatives being questioned for more details. UPDATE Fire Erupts in Pattaya Beer Bar and Guesthouse, Guests Trapped Inside A fire broke out early on October 7, at a beer bar and guesthouse located at 219/33, Soi 13/1, Beach Road, Nong Prue, Bang Lamung, Chonburi. The fire caused chaos as six guests, including one foreign tourist were trapped inside the building. The blaze started around 08:00 in a five-story commercial building, with the fire originating on the ground floor. The flames blocked the entrance, preventing some residents from escaping. Firefighters arrived quickly and extinguished the fire, eventually gaining control of the situation. Rescuers then managed to bring the trapped residents out of the building, the foreign tourist was spotted on a second floor balcony and firefighters reached him by ladder, but were able to escort out through the building. One person suffered from respiratory issues caused by smoke inhalation and was taken to Bang Lamung Hospital. The ground floor, which operated as a beer bar, suffered fire damage, while the upper floors, used as guest rooms, were not directly damaged by the fire but were filled with smoke. Emergency responders immediately worked to ventilate the building to clear the smoke. Wannee Phanlai, 42, the guesthouse caretaker, explained that she was resting on the fifth floor when she received a phone call informing her of the fire. In a panic, she rushed downstairs, encountering smoke. She attempted to escape and found the fire crew already trying to put out the fire. She suspects the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit, as she heard an explosion while firefighters were battling the blaze. Initial investigations are being conducted by Pol. Lt. Anan Mahakit-Asawakul from Pattaya City Police Station, and forensic teams are expected to further investigate the cause of the fire. -- 2024-10-07 -
I have gone back over all the reports and images from the scene. There were very few good images available when the original post was written. I don’t believe those are scrap marks, just shadows on a poor quality picture. (best that was available at the time). Below are further images, which have become available later, one shows the location of the 2 girls bodies (in the red box) and the other clearly shows no marks on the road beyond the bike. All reports say the pickup was travelling the wrong way against the traffic.
