Picture from CCTV of the incident. A six-wheel truck ran a red light, on the morning of September 10, hitting a scrap collector’s motorcycle before running over the man’s head, killing him instantly. The tragic accident occurred earlier this morning at the Taksin Intersection in Tha Chang, Mueang District, Chanthaburi Province. The Sawang Katanyu Thammasathan Rescue Centre reported the incident and dispatched rescue volunteers to the scene. Upon arrival, responders found a six-wheel goods truck had collided with a motorcycle and sidecar. Lying in the middle of the road was the lifeless body of the male motorcycle rider, his head crushed by the truck. The truck involved was a white Hino, registered in Bangkok. The driver, 24-year-old Phuchit (surname withheld), told reporters that as he approached the intersection, the traffic light was yellow and flashing. Unable to brake in time, he sounded the truck’s horn but continued through the red light. At that moment, the motorcycle entered the intersection on a green light. The truck struck the motorcycle forcefully, throwing the rider from his vehicle. Tragically, the truck’s wheels rolled over the victim's head, killing him instantly. Phuchit said he immediately stopped the truck, rushed out, and knelt to apologise to the deceased, admitting that he had been unable to stop in time. The motorcycle was identified as a Yamaha registered in Chanthaburi. Authorities have not yet identified the deceased as no identification was found on him. Police from Mueang Chanthaburi Station arrived at the scene, coordinating with doctors from Phra Pok Klao Hospital to conduct a preliminary examination of the body. They also took photographs of the accident site and collected evidence. CCTV footage from the intersection will be reviewed to ensure a fair investigation for all parties involved. The victim's body has been taken to Phra Pok Klao Hospital, and authorities are working to locate the victim’s family for funeral arrangements. Pattaya: Search For Culprit Who Muzzled 10 Dogs With Tape

UPDATE Not Animal Cruelty! A Woman Explains Taping Dog's Mouths to Prevent Barking, Chasing, and Biting, Saying It’s Done to Ensure Safety for Both Dogs and People The controversy over alleged animal cruelty erupted after a Facebook user posted a picture of dogs with their mouths taped shut with adhesive tape, along with a caption questioning the practice. The image was shared widely, sparking heated debates among animal lovers. However, Ms. Kanyarat, the 38-year-old woman responsible for the dogs, clarified the situation to local officials from Pattaya’s Veterinary Services and Public Health and Environment Department. She explained that the practice was not cruel but rather a necessary measure to prevent the dogs from barking, chasing, or biting residents and tourists in the area. Ms. Kanyarat stated that the dogs’ natural instincts, especially when encountering children playing nearby, often led them to bark or chase after them. To prevent this, she used old socks and flexible black adhesive tape to gently cover their mouths. She assured authorities that this was done from 20:00 until 07:00 and only after the dogs had been fed. The dogs were also able to eat and drink as usual during the day. “The dogs belong to a foreigner who adopted them and left them with me when he returned to his home country,” Ms. Kanyarat explained. “I’ve taken responsibility for them, and while some may think it's cruel, it’s actually for the safety of everyone. The dogs are fine, and so are the people around them.” Dr. Apichaya Thuranan, a senior veterinarian from Pattaya City, confirmed that upon inspection, the dogs were in good health, able to eat, drink, and behave normally. She further noted that Ms. Kanyarat was acting responsibly by preventing the dogs from disturbing the local community. "The dogs are able to eat food and drink milk even with the temporary coverings, and the owner is using flexible materials to ensure their comfort," said Dr. Apichaya. Despite initial concerns about potential animal cruelty, the investigation concluded that the dogs were well cared for, and the measures taken were not harmful, but aimed at maintaining peace and safety in the neighbourhood . -- 2024-09-10 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe- 217 replies

Shooting in Lamphun: Woman Severely Injured, Ex-Husband Suspected of Attack. A 43-year-old woman was shot in the forehead with a shotgun while waiting for a bus to her factory job. Picture courtesy of Daily News. A 43-year-old woman was shot in the forehead with a shotgun, on September 9, while waiting for a bus to her factory job. The authorities suspect the attack was carried out by her ex-husband, driven by revenge after failed attempts to reconcile. The incident occurred at a three-way intersection in Ban Pak Klawng, Moo 16, Nam Dip sub-district, Pa Sang district, Lamphun. Police investigator Pol. Lt. Col. Paisarn Wannachai from the Pa Sang Police Station responded to the scene with officers from the local investigative unit and community leaders. The victim, identified as Ms. Aranya (surname withheld), was found critically injured after being shot in the forehead. Emergency responders rushed her to Lamphun Hospital for treatment. Initial investigations revealed that the attack occurred as Ms. Aranya was waiting for a shuttle bus to take her to work at a factory in the Northern Industrial Estate. The assailant, a man, reportedly used a locally modified shotgun to shoot her at close range. Ms. Aranya’s history suggests that the likely culprit is her former husband, with whom she had a tumultuous relationship. The couple, who have a 7-year-old son, separated due to the ex-husband's addiction to methamphetamine. Despite being given several chances to reform, he relapsed into drug use, leading to the breakup. The ex-husband had repeatedly attempted to reconcile with Ms. Aranya, and on several occasions, threatened her with violence if she did not comply. Following the attack, police initiated a manhunt for the ex-husband, but he remains at large. Authorities are currently reviewing security camera footage from the village and surrounding areas to gather evidence and ensure legal action is taken. The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement officials continue to pursue all leads in the case. -- 2024-09-10 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe

Picture showing the arrest of two of the suspects. In a tense operation, Udon Thani police successfully raided a gang of four loan sharks involved in kidnapping a woman for ransom. The victim, Ms. Sasithorn "Tim" (53), was abducted in place of her younger sister, who had an unpaid loan of 200,000 baht from 2018. Ms. Tim, an innocent party, was taken hostage by the gang, who demanded a ransom of 170,000 baht. The victim sustained serious injuries, reportedly from being beaten with a gun. The incident first occurred on 8 September at 11:30, when the gang stormed Ms. Tim's home in Ban Phia Pu, Udon Thani Province. The group, including the leader Mr. Buppaj Ritmaha (40), his daughter Ms. Jirapriya Phakphin (36), and two accomplices, forcibly abducted Ms. Tim and fled in an orange Nissan Navara pickup truck. The police swiftly organised a task force of 30 armed officers and tracked the suspects to a remote area near a forest close to Wat Tham Sai Bat temple. After a tense chase, all four suspects were apprehended, and Ms. Tim was rescued. She was found severely injured from being beaten and is currently receiving treatment at Kumphawapi Hospital. Ms. Tim’s mother, Mrs. Daeng Singhkhon (79), was devastated by the kidnapping. She explained that her youngest daughter, Ms. Chabathip, had borrowed 200,000 baht in 2018 while working in Turkey. However, it was Ms. Tim who was taken hostage despite having no involvement in the loan. The kidnappers had initially demanded 170,000 baht for her release but later reduced the demand to 30,000 baht after Mrs. Daeng negotiated. Unable to pay, the family sought police assistance. Ms. Tim's brother-in-law, Mr. Phichit Parasombun (48), confirmed that he and his wife had borrowed the money to pay off agricultural debts. He expressed frustration that the original lender was now in jail, and the debt had been taken over by Mr. Buppaj, who had aggressively demanded payment. Police Col. Ratpholchai Phensongkram, head of the Chaiwan police station, explained that the suspects would be charged with kidnapping for ransom. He praised the swift action of the police teams in resolving the case within 28 hours. Ms. Tim remains in critical condition, suffering from brain hemorrhaging due to the violence she endured during the kidnapping. The police continue to investigate the case and have vowed to bring justice for the family. -- 2024-09-10 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe

Pregnant Woman and Husband Narrowly Escape After Car Plunges Into Pond A heavily pregnant woman and her Chinese husband had a close call when their car plunged into a pond after she accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. Both managed to escape safely from the submerged vehicle. Full story : https://aseannow.com/topic/1337759-pregnant-woman-and-husband-narrowly-escape-after-car-plunges-into-pond/ -
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A heavily pregnant woman and her Chinese husband had a close call on September 9, when their car plunged into a pond after she accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake. Both managed to escape safely from the submerged vehicle. The incident occurred in the Wang Takhian sub-district of Kabin Buri, Prachinburi province, when a 30-year-old woman, eight months pregnant, was driving with her husband. They were attempting to turn the car around when she mistakenly pressed the accelerator, causing the car to speed into a nearby pond. The pond, covering an area of over 3 rai (about 1.2 acres) and with a depth of 4 metres, quickly engulfed the vehicle. The couple managed to swim to safety and walked approximately 400 metres to seek help from a nearby roadside vendor. Rescue services were immediately contacted and arrived on the scene to assist. The pregnant woman, identified as Ms. Wannarat (surname withheld), and her husband were transported to Kabin Buri Hospital. Ms. Wannarat was admitted to the emergency room for a thorough check-up to ensure the safety of both mother and unborn child. According to a local vendor, Thaworn Kumchan, who was the first to assist the couple, the woman explained that they had been searching for a rental house and decided to turn around for another route. However, as she made the turn, she accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the car to plunge into the water. Rescue divers were dispatched to retrieve the vehicle, which was submerged at a depth of 4 metres. They successfully pulled the car, a yellow MG sedan, from the water. The front of the car had sustained significant damage. Authorities believe the woman likely shifted gears incorrectly and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, leading to the accident. Fortunately, her quick thinking to instruct her husband to open the car door allowed them to escape before the vehicle fully sank. The incident ended without injury, but the couple was shaken by the close call. -- 2024-09-10 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe

Picture of the dogs. Social media has been abuzz with outrage as authorities and animal lovers search for an unknown individual who cruelly bound the mouths of 10 dogs with adhesive tape in Soi 12, Pattaya-Naklua Road, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Some of the dogs were also seen with plastic bottles hanging around their necks. Local residents speculate that the muzzling was due to the dogs’ loud barking and aggressive behavior toward tourists. The images posted online sparked criticism, with many condemning the act as animal cruelty. Upon investigation, it was confirmed that the dogs had indeed been walking and lying along the streets with their mouths taped shut. The security guards in the area stated that although these dogs are usually looked after by someone, they remain muzzled day and night, with the tape only removed when someone comes to feed them. The incident has raised concerns among the local community, prompting calls for officials to investigate whether this act violates the *Prevention of Cruelty and Animal Welfare Act 2014 This law protects animals from abuse and neglect, and violators can face up to two years in prison, a fine of up to 40,000 baht, or both. The public is urging authorities to take swift action and locate the individual responsible for this cruel act. -- 2024-09-10 Get the ASEAN NOW daily NEWSLETTER - Click HERE to subscribe

Picture of crime scene. A neighbourhood conflict involving pets took a tragic turn on September 9 when a former military officer shot and killed his neighbour before taking his own life. The incident left two people dead and another injured. The violent encounter began around 07:30 in Khlong Sam Subdistrict, Khlong Luang District, Pathum Thani Province. Authorities responded to reports of gunfire in a residential area. Upon arrival, police found the bodies of Colonel Jaruchat Jarupan, 64, and Saowakul Sasado, 53, near their homes. Jaruchat, a retired army officer, was discovered lying on his back outside his house, a 9mm Sig Sauer P365 pistol by his side. He had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head, indicating suicide. Saowakul, his neighbour, had been shot multiple times, once in the right hand, elbow, cheek, and twice in the abdomen. The dispute reportedly began six months ago over a disagreement about pets. Jaruchat had been caring for stray cats, while Saowakul owned dogs. On the morning of the incident, a verbal argument escalated when Saowakul insulted Jaruchat, calling him "cripple." After a heated exchange, Jaruchat retrieved a firearm from his home and opened fire. Saowakul's son, Kritin Natwil, 30, who rushed out to check on his mother, was also shot in the arm but survived the encounter. Kritin described hearing his mother arguing with Jaruchat before the shots rang out. He saw her lying wounded on the ground, and when he approached, Jaruchat fired at him as well. Police Colonel Kiattisak Mitprasat, head of Khlong Luang Police Station, stated that the initial investigation indicated a longstanding feud over pets, which escalated into violence. Jaruchat's keeping of stray cats and Saowakul's dogs had led to several altercations between the two households. Following the events, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the shootings, but the dispute over the animals remains at the centre of the conflict. The statement in the OP, are the reported comments made by the driver to police, “Mr. Samai explained that he had been driving out of Thung Klom Tan Man Soi 10, along a road near Chak Nok Reservoir. As he approached a three-way intersection, he turned right, only to encounter a motorcycle coming straight towards him, honking aggressively. Startled, he attempted to accelerate and overtake the motorcycle, but the wet, slippery road caused him and his truck to spin out of control” It is not the role of the news team to change the facts of a statement made at the accident scene.
