At approximately 11:00 on November 26, police investigator Pol. Lt. Narong Wangso from the Sakaeo Police Station, Suphan Buri Province, responded to a report of an oil drum explosion at a scrap metal yard in Moo 1, Sanam Khli Subdistrict, Mueang Suphan Buri District. Local officials, including Prasong Thammapala, head of the Provincial Disaster Prevention Office; Wirat Khamhomkul, Mayor of Ban Pho Subdistrict Municipality; Thet Mongkhon Suphankong, Mayor of Sanam Khli Subdistrict Administrative Organisation (SAO); and rescue teams, also attended the scene. The incident occurred at a scrap yard handling aluminium and pallets, with part of the site converted for aluminium smelting. The injured worker, identified as Mr. Tuy, a 32-year-old Myanmar national, suffered a fractured right leg. Rescue personnel provided first aid before rushing him to Chaophraya Yommarat Hospital. At the scene, authorities found several 200 litre steel oil drums, some partially cut open. One drum, lying near a pile of tamarind branches, showed signs of buckling at its base, with its lid blown off and landing over 50 metres away. Mr. Tuy explained that he was using an oxy-propane torch to cut open the drums, which previously contained used engine oil. While cutting one drum, an explosion occurred, sending the lid flying past his head and causing the drum to strike his left leg, fracturing it. He attributed the explosion to leftover flammable vapour inside the drum, as he had not vented it properly. Mrs. Som Song, 75, the scrap yard owner, stated that she had registered her business with the SAO but was unaware of the need for additional permits. She claimed that aluminum smelting activities had been deemed minor by provincial industry officials, who assured her no permit was required. However, Pol. Sub. Lt. Chakrawan Mueanbangsue, a Sanam Khli SAO officer, noted that the yard had previously been the subject of complaints regarding wastewater discharge into nearby rice fields. On March 28, the SAO inspected the site and issued a warning to halt operations until proper permits were obtained. Despite this, no action was taken, and the owner continued operations. Following the explosion, authorities reiterated that the business must cease unauthorised activities and obtain the required permits. While this specific incident was linked to the worker’s use of a gas torch rather than aluminium smelting, officials emphasised the importance of compliance with regulations to prevent further incidents and legal consequences. The lifeless body of an 18-year-old first-year university student, identified as Mr. Teerawat, or “Ice” (surname withheld), was recovered from a large pond near Walailak University late on November 25. Emergency rescue teams from three local foundations worked together for approximately 20 minutes to retrieve the body from the pond in Thaiburi subdistrict, Thasala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat. The search, complicated by rain and the size of the pond, began after the student’s sandals and mobile phone were discovered on the water’s edge. Authorities responded to the scene following reports from friends and witnesses. According to initial information, the student, who was suspected of suffering from depression, had earlier sent an emotional farewell message to his peers in a university group chat. In the message, he expressed gratitude for their friendship and apologised for any past actions, stating, “I may be going far away and may not return. Thank you for all the happy moments.” After receiving the message, the student’s friends, alarmed and confused, began searching the area and eventually found his belongings near the pond. They promptly contacted the authorities. Rescue divers located the student’s body at the bottom of the pond. Preliminary examination by forensic officials revealed no signs of external injuries or foul play. The police and a duty physician conducted a detailed autopsy before releasing the body to the family for funeral arrangements. Police from Thasala Police Station have opened an investigation to determine the exact cause of death, with a focus on confirming the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. This incident highlights concerns regarding mental health among young people, particularly students under pressure. It has prompted discussions on the need for increased mental health support and resources within educational institutions. A 14-year-old schoolgirl lost her life after being struck by a six-wheel truck while riding her motorcycle in Lopburi on November 25. At approximately 17:30 the Lopburi Police Station received reports of a fatal accident on Highway 3017, between Lopburi and Wang Muang, near the Khao Tumn intersection. Police and rescue workers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found a white Honda Zoomer X motorcycle overturned in the far-left lane of the road. About 10 metres away, a six-wheel Isuzu truck with the license plate from Lopburi was stopped at the roadside. Beneath the truck, near the rear right wheel, was the body of a young girl, later identified as Chanantida Riewwongsak (nicknamed “Nong Great”), a 14-year-old student from the nearby Nikom Sangkathon District. The victim was wearing a school sports uniform when she was found trapped under the truck. Relatives who arrived at the scene were devastated, with the girl’s grandmother, 64-year-old Chaluai, collapsing in shock and having to be treated by emergency responders. She explained that the girl had left home to buy snacks at a convenience store and was only gone for about five minutes before the tragic news came. The truck driver, 33-year-old Rungroj Sirong, remained at the scene and cooperated with the police. He explained that he had been transporting rice from the Phatthana Nikhom District to Ban Mi District when the crash occurred. As he was driving through a curve, the victim emerged from a side street, failing to notice his oncoming vehicle. The truck struck her motorcycle and dragged her for over 10 metres before stopping. The driver was taken into police custody for further investigation, while the victim’s body was sent to Phra Narai Maharaj Hospital for an autopsy. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-27

Authorities have apprehended three individuals involved in illegal gold mining activities within Thong Pha Phum National Park, Kanchanaburi. The operation followed a directive issued by the Thong Pha Phum District on November 19, 2024, aimed at cracking down on forestry-related offenses. During patrols, officials discovered a newly excavated site, approximately 17 kilometres from Pilok Kee Village and 7 kilometres from the Thai-Myanmar border. The area featured pits measuring 1x1 metres and as deep as 5-10 metres. Evidence of bamboo structures used for soil and rock filtering, as well as makeshift shelters, was also found. Authorities detained two individuals at the site: • Mr. A Chong, 32, a stateless person, found with five items of equipment used for mining. • Mr. Anusorn, 35, a Thai national, discovered with 18 items of equipment. A third suspect, Mr. Sochi, of Karen ethnicity, was arrested at a checkpoint. Upon searching his bag, officials found fragments of gold ore. He admitted to mining gold illegally in the seized area, which was corroborated by photographic evidence. A total of 12 items of mining equipment were confiscated, and the three suspects were handed over to the Pilok Police Station for legal action. They face six charges, including: 1. Unauthorized forest clearing and occupation under the Forest Act of 1941. 2. Illegal possession of cleared forest land, presumed to have been cleared by the possessor. 3. Degradation of a national reserved forest under the National Reserved Forest Act of 1964. 4. Encroachment and environmental damage within a national park under the National Parks Act of 2019. 5. Illegal collection of natural resources causing ecological harm under the National Parks Act of 2019. 6. Unauthorized commercial activities within a national park under the National Parks Act of 2019. The park’s chief, Mr. Yuthapong Damsrisuk, stated that further surveillance is underway to intercept other individuals suspected of hiding in the forest near the border. Entry points to the illegal mining site have been sealed, and authorities are working closely with the Border Patrol Police Unit 135 and local administrative agencies to prevent further incursions. A crash occurred when a high-speed, unregistered big bike crashed into the rear of a Toyota Fortuner waiting at a U-turn in Ban Khai District, Rayong, resulting in one fatality and four injuries. The incident took place on the night of November 25, near the U-turn at the three-way Scout Camp intersection in Ban Khai, Rayong. Local police and rescue volunteers from Sawang Porakun Foundation responded to the scene upon receiving reports of the collision. Upon arrival, authorities encountered a large crowd of onlookers, causing traffic to back up for over two kilometres. At the scene, a black big bike was found severely damaged, with oil spilling across the road. The rear of the white Toyota Fortuner was completely crushed. One fatality was reported at the scene, a Burmese man named Ta, who was riding the big bike with another individual, Mi, who sustained injuries. It remains unclear who was driving, as both were ejected from the motorcycle upon impact. The big bike had no license plate. Preliminary investigations revealed that the Fortuner and other vehicles were waiting at the U-turn when the speeding big bike clipped a male student’s motorcycle, injuring him, before crashing full force into the Fortuner. The impact caused the rear of the Fortuner to veer sideways. Inside the vehicle, a Chinese woman sitting in the backseat suffered serious injuries. Residents noted that accidents frequently occur at this U-turn, with some resulting in fatalities. Poor lighting and reckless speeding are believed to be contributing factors. Police from Ban Khai Station collected evidence to pursue legal action and address the recurring dangers at this location. Authorities apprehended 110 migrant workers in a crackdown on illegal immigration at a construction worker camp in Nong Yai District, Chonburi Province. Of those detained, 85 were found to have entered Thailand illegally and will be deported, according to police reports. The raid, conducted at 13:00 on November 26, by Police Colonel Krit Masuk, Superintendent of Nong Yai Police Station, targeted a camp located in Moo 4, Hang Sung Subdistrict. During document checks at the station, it was discovered that 85 individuals, all Myanmar nationals, lacked proper immigration documents. They were charged with “illegally entering the Kingdom without permission.” Coordination with the Immigration Bureau has been made to arrange their deportation. The remaining 25 detainees are under further investigation, as they were found in possession of passports. Their immigration status is being verified. Police Colonel Krit revealed that Nong Yai District, with its growing industrial sector and increasing number of factories, has become a hotspot for illegal migrant labour. This influx has occasionally led to social disturbances, including drinking and disputes among workers. “To address these issues, we have implemented a strict crackdown policy. This recent operation resulted in the largest arrest to date, with all 110 individuals apprehended having entered the country only two days prior,” he said. Authorities reaffirm their commitment to managing illegal immigration and ensuring order in the district, particularly as industrial development continues to expand. A sudden U-turn by a six-wheel truck led to a multi-vehicle accident involving a trailer truck, two pickup trucks, and a motorcycle on Thepkrasattri Road in Phuket on the morning of November 26. The crash also caused damage to a commercial building nearby. Police investigator Pol. Sub. Lt. Thanom Thongpan of the Thalang Police Station received a report of the accident near Khun Mae Ju Restaurant in Thepkrasattri sub-district at approximately 09:20. Upon arrival, officers found a six-wheel truck from Nakhon Pathom parked near the scene. The driver, 34-year-old Nattapon, was present at the site. Also at the scene was a trailer truck registered in Phuket, loaded with crushed stone, which had veered out of control and collided with vehicles parked in front of the restaurant. The impact caused significant damage to two pickup trucks and one motorcycle, all bearing Phuket registrations. A portion of the building’s glass façade was also shattered. The driver of the trailer truck sustained injuries and was transported to Thalang Hospital by emergency responders from the Thepkrasattri Subdistrict Administrative Organisation. Initial investigations revealed that the six-wheel truck made an abrupt U-turn across Thepkrasattri Road (inbound) from the outbound lane near the restaurant. This maneuver forced the trailer truck, traveling inbound, to brake suddenly and swerve, leading to the collision with parked vehicles and the building. CCTV footage captured the incident, showing the six-wheel truck completing its turn moments before the crash occurred. Authorities have summoned Nattapon to the Thalang Police Station for further questioning and legal proceedings. The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the extent of negligence and liability in this incident. Picture and video from responders, -- 2024-11-27 My Movie.mp4

UPDATE Underwater Search Halted for Missing French Tourist in Cheow Lan Reservoir Authorities have suspended underwater search operations for a missing French tourist after a tour boat capsized in the Ratchaprapha Dam (Cheow Lan Reservoir) near Khao Sam Kloe in Ban Ta Khun District, Surat Thani, on November 23. The missing individual, identified as Mr. Rene, Mary Corre, 77, was aboard the boat when it sank. Full story:https://aseannow.com/topic/1344403-tour-boat-capsizes-in-cheow-lan-dam-in-storm-search-for-missing-french-tourist/page/2/#findComment-19408888 -
UPDATE Underwater Search Halted for Missing Tourist in Cheow Lan Reservoir Authorities have suspended underwater search operations for a missing French tourist after a tour boat capsized in the Ratchaprapha Dam (Cheow Lan Reservoir) near Khao Sam Kloe in Ban Ta Khun District, Surat Thani, on November 23. The missing individual, identified as Mr. Rene, Mary Corre, 77, was aboard the boat when it sank. Search efforts over the past three days, using sonar equipment, underwater drones, and divers, have failed to locate the missing person or the boat within the targeted one-square-kilometre radius. It is believed that the boat’s engine continued running after it sank, possibly causing it to drift from its initial location. On November 26, a meeting was held at the search command centre at Ban Cheow Lan Pier, led by Mr. Chawalit Chuaysong, Mayor of Ban Cheow Lan Municipality. Officials from various sectors, including police, rescue teams, and divers, decided to halt underwater search efforts due to numerous obstacles, such as submerged trees and branches that hinder visibility and exploration by underwater drones. Police Colonel Sirichai Suksat, Deputy Commander of Surat Thani Provincial Police, stated that while a suspicious object resembling the boat was detected at a depth of 60-80 meters, divers confirmed it to be a large tree with a flashlight bag entangled in its branches. The bag was identified as belonging to the boat, but neither the vessel nor the missing tourist was found. The search will now shift to surface patrols using boats from the park and the Department of Fisheries. Additionally, investigations on land, including checks at floating accommodations, hotels, hospitals, and local communities, have yielded no clues about the missing tourist. Colonel Sirichai also noted that the missing tourist had traveled alone with a tour group and had no relatives or companions. The Surat Thani Provincial Police will compile a report and notify the French embassy to assist in contacting the tourist’s family. Further plans will be developed if no progress is made after three more days of surface searches. Picture of the search and underwater images. -- 2024-11-26

Sorry I believe that is totally wrong. The conditions where the elephants are being trained to be used, will be where vehicle access is not possible and helicopter access will depend on availably, limited landing sites due to tree canopies, lack of long line operations capability and prevailing weather conditions. When under these conditions, rescuers will have to access the incident site on foot and carry all rescue equipment and medical equipment with them , hence needing a lot more rescuers to cope with the workload. Carrying even a 70kg casualty on a stretcher any distance on uneven steep terrain in wet under foot conditions is a difficult challenge. Yes there is the logistics problems of getting an elephant to the scene, when it is outside their normal area, so deployment will be limited, but when vehicle/helicopter access is not available, elephants could prove to be an asset and would in certain conditions, speed up the rescue response.

At approximately 06:05 on November 25, the Sawang Boriboon Rescue Centre in Pattaya responded to a report of a collision between a tourist bus and a motorcycle on Highway 36, the Pattaya-Rayong Bypass, in Nong Pla Lai Subdistrict, Bang Lamung District, Chonburi. Rescue volunteers swiftly arrived at the scene. The accident involved a tourist bus with license plate number registered in Bangkok and operated by Phalachiva Transport Company. The bus, which was carrying Chinese tourists, sustained damage to its left front side. The driver, 55-year-old Mr. Withoon Phansong, waited at the scene to provide his statement to authorities, while the visibly shaken tourists peered out anxiously at the unfolding situation. Nearby, a red Honda Wave 125 motorcycle, license plate Chonburi, was found overturned and severely damaged. Lying close to the wreckage was a woman estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old, who had suffered a head injury after the bus’s tyre ran over her head. Remarkably, her helmet, which had shattered from the weight of the bus, saved her life. Rescue workers provided immediate first aid before rushing her to the hospital. According to Mr. Withoon, he was driving in the middle lane when he noticed the motorcycle attempting to cross from the left to the right lane. Despite honking, braking, and attempting to change lanes, he was unable to avoid the collision. The motorcycle skidded along the road, leading to the rider’s injuries. Local police from Bang Lamung Station have launched an investigation, including a review of CCTV footage, to determine the exact cause of the accident. Authorities emphasised the critical role helmets play in preventing fatalities, crediting the woman’s helmet for saving her life. Picture from responders. -- 2024-11-26
