  2. Picture from responders. A long-awaited reunion between a couple who had been apart for 6 years ended in tragedy when the man, who had traveled from the United States to Phuket, was electrocuted after just a few days together. The incident occurred at around 21:30 on December 5 near a grilled fish restaurant on Don Jom Tao Road in Thalang District, Phuket. Police Sub-Lieutenant Thanom Thongpan of the Thalang Police Station received a report of a severe electric shock. Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they found good Samaritans administering CPR to a foreign man who was unconscious. Despite their efforts and assistance from Thalang Hospital medics, the man was pronounced dead shortly after being transferred to the hospital. According to Ms. Nok, a friend of the victim’s girlfriend, the group had gathered for dinner at the restaurant. The victim, identified as Mr. Thura Kyaw, 33, had just arrived with his girlfriend and exited the car. Due to recent rain, the ground was wet. Tragically, Mr. Kyaw slipped and accidentally touched a lamppost that gave him the electrical shock. Witnesses reported seeing the victim collapse and his body become stuck to the pole. Bystanders quickly intervened, managing to pull him away and attempt CPR while awaiting medical help. Ms. Nok explained that Mr. Kyaw had flown from the United States to Phuket to reunite with his girlfriend after years apart. The couple had only been together for a few days before the devastating incident. Officials from the Provincial Electricity Authority inspected the lamppost and confirmed that it had a 220-volt electrical fault. The faulty lamppost is under the jurisdiction of the Phuket Highways Department. Authorities temporarily cut off the electricity supply to prevent further harm and urged local officials to address the issue promptly. An eyewitness, Mr. Pheu, recounted the harrowing moment. “I saw the man collapse near the pole, with his leg still in contact with it. When I tried to help, I felt electricity through his body. Then the current stopped, he was pulled away and everyone began providing first aid. Sadly, we couldn’t save him.” The incident has sparked local outrage and calls for urgent action to ensure public safety in areas frequented by residents and tourists. Local authorities have pledged a thorough investigation and immediate repairs to prevent similar tragedies. -- 2024-12-06

  4. Picture from responders. A 60-year-old man was discovered dead in a paddy field in Khlong Khlung District, Kamphaeng Phet Province, with over 20 stab wounds on his body. Authorities suspect the murder stemmed from a dispute over a bill at a karaoke bar the previous night. The discovery was reported at 07:00, on December 5, by Police Captain Yutthana Puksuk of the Khlong Khlung Police Station. Rescue teams and investigators arrived at the scene near Moo 1, Ban Thanon Ngam, to find the deceased lying on his back in the mud. The victim, identified as Mr. Udom, was wearing a black jacket, a green t-shirt, and black pants, which were partially pulled down. Blood stains were visible on his torso, and his body bore multiple stab wounds: eight on his torso, two on his head, and eight on his back. Nearby, investigators found broken beer bottles, fragments of a motorcycle helmet, and pieces of the victim’s clothing. His shoes were found floating in water nearby. The body was first discovered by Mr. Sommai 59, a local resident who had come to soak rice seeds in the field. “At first, I thought he might have passed out drunk, but as I got closer, I realised he was dead. I didn’t recognize him, so he’s likely not from our village,” Mr. Sommai said. He alerted the village headman and police. Ms. Anong 49, owner of the karaoke bar the victim frequented, said he had come to her bar the previous evening with two friends, a man and a woman. “They bought liquor earlier in the day and returned to drink that evening. The group seemed fine when they left, though there was some confusion about paying the bill,” she explained. The victim’s friends allegedly refused to pay, saying the victim would cover the cost. According to police, the victim and his two friends left the bar together on a motorcycle, with the woman driving, the victim sitting in the middle, and the other man in the back. It is believed the group was headed to the male friend’s house to retrieve money. Along the way, a heated argument broke out, leading to the violent attack. Broken bottles were reportedly used as weapons to stab the victim. His body was then dragged and left in the field. Deputy Provincial Police Commander Pol. Col. Ekkachai Chansorn confirmed that investigators have identified the suspects and are actively pursuing them. Police are also examining evidence collected at the scene and awaiting the results of an autopsy. -- 2024-12-06

  6. Picture from responders. A family of four narrowly escaped death after their car collided with an 18-wheeler truck on December 5, at around 14:00. The crash occurred on Klang Mueang Road in Ban Non Tun, Mueang Kao Subdistrict, Mueang District, Khon Kaen Province. Rescue teams from Sawang Khon Kaen Samakkhi Foundation, Chit Kusol Khon Kaen Foundation, and paramedics from Mueang Kao Municipality and Khon Kaen Hospital rushed to the scene. The rescue effort required hydraulic cutters to free Mr. Koson 46, a resident of Chaiyaphum Province, who was trapped in the driver’s seat of a Mazda 3 car. The car had been struck midsection by an 18-wheeler truck, bearing license plate from Bangkok. Rescuers worked for approximately 20 minutes to cut open the driver’s side door and extract Mr. Koson, who was then transported to Khon Kaen Hospital for treatment. Three other injured family members had already been rushed to the hospital earlier. According to the truck driver, he was en route to deliver goods to a location on Liang Mueang Road in Ban Phra Khue, Mueang District, after traveling along Mittraphap Road and crossing the railway overpass into Klang Mueang Road. As he descended the overpass, the sedan car stopped and attempted a U-turn back onto the overpass, aiming to rejoin Mittraphap Road. Unable to brake in time, the truck collided with the car’s side. The impact caused the truck to swerve across lanes, nearly hitting a roadside utility pole, while the car spun and was thrown approximately 50 metres from the collision point. Police officers from the Mueang Kao substation arrived at the scene to investigate. Preliminary findings indicate that all four injured occupants of the car belonged to the same family. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. -- 2024-12-06

  12. Picture from responders A homeowner in a two-story townhouse in Soi Pracha Samakki, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan, was left shaken after discovering a large python emerging from her toilet. Despite efforts by local rescue officers to capture the snake, it slipped back into the plumbing and remains at large. Officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation in Na Khlong Bang Pla Kot were called to house in a local housing estate after a report of a python seen breathing at the surface of a toilet bowl. The call came from Mrs. Pannee 59, who was visibly distressed as she recounted the shocking encounter. Upon inspection, officers confirmed the presence of a large python, estimated to be 2-3 metres long, that occasionally surfaced for air while flicking its tongue. When they attempted to lift the makeshift grate placed by the homeowners over the toilet to prevent the snake from escaping, the python submerged itself back into the water and disappeared down the drain. To locate the snake, the team enlisted the help of local workers to dismantle the toilet, a task that took over an hour. Despite their efforts to search the tank and pipes, the python could not be found. It is suspected that the snake retreated further into the plumbing system, possibly into the septic tank. Mrs. Pannee shared her harrowing experience, explaining that she and her family have lived in the house for over five years without encountering such an incident. She first suspected something was wrong the evening before when water in the toilet drained unusually slowly, prompting her to use a plunger to clear it. The shocking discovery occurred the following morning as she cleaned the bathroom. While rinsing a floor mop in the sink, she heard bubbling noises from the toilet. When she leaned over to inspect, she was horrified to see the python’s head emerge from the bowl. “It flicked its tongue at me, and I ran out of the bathroom in terror,” she said. Grateful that the snake had not appeared during her earlier use of the toilet, she immediately contacted her neighbourhood security team, who then called the local rescue team. Although the python remains at large, authorities have advised the family to remain vigilant and contact officials immediately if the snake resurfaces. Officials aim to safely capture the python and release it back into the wild. -- 2024-12-06
