German Tourist's Fatal Fall at Pattaya Hotel Shocks Visitors
Georgealbert replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
This being reported as a female. Looking at the pictures, it looks like it could possibly be View Talay 6, next to Central Festival. -
Most of the older aircraft parked there are not part of the Thai Airways current active fleet, and are either up for sale or have been sold. Last few months Thai airways reported they have sold all their Boeing 747s and Airbus A380. In 2022 it sold 5 Airbus A340s, which had taken 13 years to sell. As of this morning, 8 June, Thai has 7 current aircraft parked for routine maintenance. 1 x A330 3 x A350 1 x 777 2 x 787

British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
Georgealbert replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
What are you talking about? How is anyone party to a discriminatory policy if they were contracted out? I fully understand the link I posted, it is clearly you that fail to see the difference between a frozen state pension and a workplace pension, which is upgraded. Yes if contracted out, you NI were either lower or paid into another pension, but that would now affect the amount state pension you will receive. From the link.- https://www.gov.uk/contracted-out#:~:text=The Additional State Pension was,Second Pension or 'SERPs'.&text=If you were contracted out of the Additional State Pension,a workplace or private pension “If you reached State Pension age before 6 April 2016 You might not get any Additional State Pension, or get a small amount, from the time you were contracted out. You still get the basic State Pension if you were contracted out. If you reached State Pension age on or after 6 April 2016 If you were contracted out before 6 April 2016, you might not get the full rate new State Pension of £221.20 a week. An amount is taken off your new State Pension if you were contracted out. This is because either: - you paid National Insurance contributions at a lower rate - some of the National Insurance contributions you paid were used to contribute to a workplace or private pension How much is taken off depends on how long you were contracted out and your earnings at the time. While you were contracted out, you were paying into your workplace or personal pension instead.” What ever amount of state pension you end up receiving, that state pension amount is still frozen in Thailand. However your occupational or pension was funded, NI contributions, employee contributions or employer contributions, it is NOT part of your state pension, it is a separate pension. Have a good day, but remember that your arrogance is a poor disguise for your ignorance. -

Luxury Porsche worth over 10 million baht catches fire in Bangkok
Georgealbert replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Thanks, good relevant information, and it shows that extinguishing systems are always changing and developing, as the fire risks change. EV fires and electrical fires in building/supply systems are approached differently. Carbon dioxide, is good indoors and clean, but is not that effective outside, as the gas is dispersed by wind and weather. Dry powder is effective, but can be very messy indoors and is unpleasant to breathe in a confined area. The main problem with carbon dioxide and dry powder is it is mostly only found in extinguishers, unless installed in a fixed firefighting system. Extinguishers are good as a first aid firefighting, but the limited usage times, seconds, makes them unsuitable on a developed fire. Unofficially, firefighters when faced with a fire in a building that has live electricity, there is a need to isolate the supply quickly to extinguish the fire. When access to isolation, is difficult or not possible, it is not unknown for firefighters to use a short pulse, water mist spray, with the hope to blow the electrics and isolate the system that way. Yes it is not recommended, and not always suitable. Each area, in Thailand, will have different equipment at fire stations, often depending on budgets, with the larger cities and towns, having the better, more modern equipment. In the UK, where I am from, local fire services will have a risk based operational procedures for dealing with EV fires, which is based around the National Operational Guidance as laid out by the National Fire Chief’s Council. https://nfcc.org.uk/our-services/position-statements/operations-committee/emergency-responders-guide-for-alternatively-fuelled-vehicles/ -

Three Chinese Tourists Injured in Boat Collision on Chao Phraya River

So it seems that you believe you are the only one that see the real truth! Again you go searching for links to fit your agenda.. You post a 4 year old, outdated BBC story, and an opinion piece. So you are saying the jury was wrong? The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) were wrong? Accident Investigation Bureau of Ethiopia’s (EAIB) were wrong? Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) were wrong? But the real truth is contained in the blog of Michael Volkov, a lawyer with very little aviation knowledge or experience. Your alethophobia is showing and you are clearly blinded by your own preconceived bias. I will not longer reply to your nonsense, as it does not matter how many real facts you are presented, you are never going to believe the real truth. Bye and have a good day in your alternative cult reality.

British Pensioner Struggles with Frozen Pension in Thailand
Georgealbert replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
My history covered the key details of why the state pension is frozen and I tried to keep it brief. I also provided a link to the historical background, presented in the House of Commons briefing paper, The All Party Parliamentary Group, which supported an upgrading, maybe read it again. I can only post the link, sorry if you fail to understand the details in that link. Again you fail to show how my comment was in anyway supporting discrimination, which you accused me of. If you contracted out of the state additional pension, your state pension payments are still frozen. Your occupational or private pensions, are different schemes, covered by different rules, just more defection. Bye, have a good day. -

Lets put together all the facts, about the MCAS and the Boeing test pilots, then we maybe can prevent further repeated posts trying to hijack the thread, by stating the same thing over and over, and then falsely ranting that those opinions are facts. 1.What is MCAS? ‘MCAS (Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System) is implemented on the 737 MAX to enhance longitudinal stability characteristics with flaps up and at elevated Angles of Attack (AoA). The MCAS function commands nose down stabilizer to enhance pitch characteristics during steep turns with elevated load factors and during flaps up flight at airspeeds approaching stall. MCAS is activated without pilot input and only operates in manual, flaps up flight. The system is designed to allow the flight crew to use column trim switch or stabilizer aislestand cutout switches to override MCAS input. The function is commanded by the Flight Control Computer (FCC) using input data from sensors and other airplane systems. The MCAS function becomes active when the AoA exceeds a threshold based on airspeed and altitude. After AoA falls below the hysteresis threshold (0.5 degrees below the activation angle), MCAS commands nose up stabiliser to return the aircraft to the trim state that existed before the MCAS activation.’ https://www.aviationfile.com/maneuvering-characteristics-augmentation-system-mcas/ Also see pictures below. 2. What is the Deferred prosecution Deal? The last administration, in its final days handed a sweetheart deal to Boeing to protect it from prosecution. https://www.justice.gov/criminal/criminal-fraud/case/united-states-v-boeing-company 3. Was MCAS blamed soley for the Max 8 crashes? Lion Air JT610 “Indonesia’s National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT) published its final 322-page accident investigation report on the October 2018 Lion Air Boeing 737 MAX flight JT610 crash, finding that it was caused by a combination of an improperly aligned angle of attack (AOA) sensor, lack of pilot reporting and training as well as a breakdown in safety oversight of certification and design flaws shared between Boeing and the FAA within the aircraft’s manoeuvring characteristics augmentation system (MCAS) system. The report does not explicitly state a singular cause for the crash, but instead lists a total of 89 findings that KNKT investigators discovered about a multitude of factors that caused the JT610 crash” https://www.flightradar24.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/JT610-PK-LQP-Final-Report.pdf Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 Finding 50 in the final report. “MCAS and the lack of pilot training did not trigger the accident; however it was the failure of the sensors due to the production quality defects. If the intermittent defects did not cause the AOA Sensors to fail on the accident flight, MCAS would not have activated, and the accident would not have occurred. The MCAS would have remained as [a] hidden threat until its true nature is exposed by some other valid or erroneous causes.” https://bea.aero/fileadmin/user_upload/ET_302__B737-8MAX_ACCIDENT_FINAL_REPORT.pdf 4. Boeing Chief Technical Pilot Mark A. Forkner. Forkner, who worked at the FAA before joining Boeing, left the aircraft manufacturer in 2018, months before the first crash, then briefly worked at Southwest Airlines. The Department of Justice in 2021 indicted him on 4 charges of wire fraud, based on communications that Forkner had with the FAA and with two big Boeing customers, Southwest Airlines and American Airlines. At trial in 2022, testimony lasted less than three days and Forkner did not testify. Judge Reed O’Connor had instructed the jurors not to consider his silence as a sign of guilt or innocence. The defense called only one witness, a current Boeing pilot, who testified for about one hour. The jury in the federal district court in Fort Worth deliberated less than two hours before finding Forkner not guilty on all four counts of wire fraud. https://www.courthousenews.com/texas-federal-jury-quickly-acquits-former-boeing-test-pilot-of-misleading-feds-about-737-max/ These are the real facts, supported with credible links, it is only consider ‘mumbo jumbo’ when you lack the capacity to understand. Maybe the thread can now move on from the repeated opinions, rants and conspiracies.

Homeowner killed in a tragic house fire in Nakhon Si Thammarat
Georgealbert replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Another example of the dangers of smoke. Without a working smoke alarm the reality is that by the time you wake up, it may already be too late. Most people do not die from flames, but are dead before the fire reaches them, from smoke inhalation or by breathing in super heated fire gases. People that are fatigued, had too much drink or drugs, are less likely to be woken at all, with the smoke killing them in their sleep. Heavy smokers will also be less likely to become aware of smoke, as their senses have built up an immunity to smoke, In this incident , there are no reports that the body was burnt, so autopsy, and evidence of the lungs and windpipe, will determine if it was smoke or heated fire gases or both, that were the cause his death. It is also possible that the fire caused a medical event, heart attack,etc.. Images, below show that the fire completely burnt out the bedroom, with the roof collapsing into the room. -

Analysis of the safety data of Boeing and Airbus aircraft, by the Lynnwood Times, using National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) incident records from 2014 to 2023. it does seem a bit weighted to protect and support Boeing, but the data and information, is a good read, and reaches the conclusion “that there is no statistically significant safety difference Boeing and Airbus” https://lynnwoodtimes.com/2024/06/05/boeing-safety/

I posted a picture of the scene earlier in the thread, it was at the rear of the building, maybe that is why security did not notice the fall.
