Will the passengers on the flight be entitled to additional compensation. “A Brisbane personal injury firm is investigating whether passengers who experienced the severe and fatal turbulence on-board the Singapore Airlines flight could be entitled to compensation payouts. Carter Capner Law said it is currently investigating if the weather or human error is to blame for turbulence on board Singapore Airlines Flight 321” https://australianaviation.com.au/2024/05/singapore-airlines-passengers-may-be-compensated-for-turbulence/ -

CCTV shows that the motorbike was stopped waiting to join the road, when they were the first hit by the full force of the truck, so little wonder they died. RIP. -
Mobile banking users not affected yet by new regulation : NBTC
Georgealbert replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Hope that is what it means, but my concern is that I only posted what the media reported Minister Prasert Chantararuangthong as saying, and there was a lack of details, so we will have to wait for full clarification to be sure. -

This was posted by Thai Examiner, but lacked much detail. “Thailand announces relaxed visa measures to stimulate tourism, including a 60-day visa exemption, a new “Destination Thailand” visa, permission for foreign university students who studied in Thailand to stay for a year after graduation, and changes in regulations for long-stay visas for retirees. The details include: - Increase the number of visa-free countries from 57 to 93, including Albania, China, Cambodia, India, Kazakhstan, Laos, Jamaica, Romania, Sri Lanka, Panama, Mexico, Morocco, Uzbekistan, etc. - Extend the period of visa-free stays from 30 days to 60 days. - Expand the list of countries eligible for visa arrivals from 19 to 31. - Extend the period of stay for digital nomads, remote workers, freelancers, Muay Thai students, Thai food students, etc., from 60 days to 180 days. - Extend the period of stay for foreign university students to one year after graduation, allowing them to work in professions not restricted to Thais only. These measures are expected to come into effect in June. Other measures set to take effect in September include: - Doubling the number of locations offering e-visa services from 47 embassies and consulates-general to 94.“

Mobile banking users not affected yet by new regulation : NBTC

Sorry but the advice given by NBTC was to dial *179*ID number# , to check, but it seems that requires a 13 digit Thai ID number, and appears not work with a passport no. or pink ID card. -
Luxury Porsche worth over 10 million baht catches fire in Bangkok
Georgealbert replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Fully agree, often people seem to think fires are a spectators event, and underestimate the dangers that smoke plays, and most fail to understand that non-fatal smoke inhalation injuries, from a fire, may leave long lasting damage: Smoke inhalation injury can lead to respiratory complications and acute respiratory distress syndrome. During any hospitalisation the chances of developing pneumonia is increased in smoke inhalation victims. Smoke Inhalation injury is associated with longstanding pulmonary dysfunction, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma. People with scarring of the lungs and windpipe from hot smoke, may have shortness of breath for the rest of their lives. Even possible long-term neurologic conditions, cognitive dysfunction, memory impairment, anxiety and depression. Not to make light of a serious subject, but this would be a good fire exit sign for these days. -

From Thai Examiner. “The deadline to register unregistered SIM cards and ensure that the name on each matches the one on your mobile banking account to avoid service interruption is July 13, said Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Prasert Chantararuangthong. However, he also said related state agencies will take until October to verify all 106 million accounts. The new regulation, aimed at preventing ghost SIM cards and mule accounts, mandates that the owner of a bank account with mobile banking must be the same person registered as the user of the SIM card. Prasert also noted that family members, guardians, and companies purchasing multiple SIM cards for their employees will be exempted.“ -

Yes agree, latest reports suggest that the tank has been out of use for over 10 years, and was being demolished , but was fitted with some form of rubber fitting/lining, and it was sparks from cutting equipment that set that rubber alight. It has not been reported how much of the original internal structure/fittings were still in place. Seems that the problem with extinguishing the fire was there was limited access to apply water directly onto the fire, with safety concerns of the integrity of the structure of the tank. Water was applied on the sides of the tank, purely as cooling, and a ALP (aerial ladder platform) was finally used as a water tower to finally extinguish the burning rubber.

Luxury Porsche worth over 10 million baht catches fire in Bangkok
Georgealbert replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Not really, fire regulations are only for life safety, so that in the event of a fire everyone, staff and visitors can escape the premises. Fire extinguishers are a very basic first aid measure, and only designed for very small fires, and are not designed to fight developing large fires that maybe spreading quickly. Any extinguisher has a very short discharge range and last about 10 to 15, depending on type of extinguisher. Staff will also not have the PPE and respiratory protection to extinguish such a fire. Any fire risk assessment would only recommend that you should have a minimum of two suitable extinguishers on every storey of each building. This is the same as in the UK under The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. Fire safety basically means; 1. Raise the alarm. 2. Get the fire service out. 3. Only attempt to extinguish the fire if safe to do so, without putting yourself in danger. 4. Get out and stay out. -

Seems that IATA (The International Air Transport Association) have developed a new data exchange platform called ‘Turbulence Aware’ which is designed to provide airlines with better information for flights. Singapore Airlines are not currently part of this program. “A global, industry-wide, data exchange platform, Turbulence Aware receives the existing airline data from ground servers, performs quality control, deidentifies data, and provides the data back to airlines via a ground-to-ground system-to-system connection. Turbulence Aware viewer via wifi – Mapped real-time turbulence reports inform your operational decision-making Integration with in-house or third-party flight planning or in-flight weather tools – To speed up decision-making EDR-based – Energy/eddy-dissipation rate (EDR) is a calculated estimate of the atmosphere’s turbulent state. It is NOT a measure of the response of an individual aircraft. It is the official ICAO & WMO metric for measuring turbulence intensity Detailed report available for each data point – Including time, altitude, aircraft position, mean and peak EDR values as well as wind and temperature data, to increase situational awareness.” https://www.iata.org/en/services/statistics/safety-data/turbulence-platform/ -

555555 Thanks, but no, I am currently laid up with an injury and just have too much time on my hand, which is not normally my situation. I also only have a very boring narrow interests, emergency response and aviation safety, and just lucky to have social media contacts that alert me to these incidents.

This is at the steel factory, Bowin , and the 10 year old tank was reported to being demolished. While cutting the steel tank, sparks are reported to have set fire to a rubber seal/collar. 9 fire trucks from the Chao Phraya Municipality in conjunction with the Industrial Estate fire trucks are currently at the scene, https://www.matichon.co.th/region/news_4597191#google_vignette

Given the tank construction and the fact there is clearly no bund protection, it is not a highly flammable/combustible liquid. No fixed fire fighting systems on tank, so assume this is a fairly low risk material, that hopefully can be extinguished quickly.

18.00, today, reports of a tank fire at the factory, in the Bowin area, Sriracha District. Responders are currently at the scene, but information is limited, with no details of what is stored in the tank. Not yet reported by news sites, but will update when available. Earlier video of the incident here. https://fb.watch/skb_43Y4GZ/?

BREAKING NEWS ANOTHER Flight hit by turbulence - 12 injured

Yes agree, but it does makes current clickbate headlines. Data also shows that between 2011 and 2024, there 248 turbulent reported incidents (an reported incident is when there is at least one serious injury involving commercial passenger or cargo flights) were reported on aircraft across the world. The Singapore Airlines incident was the first death in that timeframe. Without a serious injury the event is not a reported incident, and those occur regularly. -

It is not clear from the statement made in the report, but earlier today another report said the exceptions were aimed at elderly relatives and children. I am in the same boat as you, SIM in wife’s name, but to get it changed just means going to AIS shop with passport and her , with ID, and updating/changing details, this is a prepaid account.
