Picture from responders. Bangkok was gripped by a dramatic late-night fire near a major shopping mall in the Rama IX intersection area, causing panic among residents and bringing traffic to a standstill. The incident occurred late on 8 April when a large transformer caught fire at the Saen Saeb substation, located in Din Daeng District. Firefighters and rescue personnel from Huai Khwang Fire Station responded swiftly to the emergency. Fire crews managed to extinguish the blaze within a relatively short time. Once the fire was under control, officials began assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the incident. Authorities confirmed that a widespread power outage in the Rama IX area was caused by an intentional power cut, which was necessary to extinguish the fire safely. The fire, which occurred behind Fortune Town shopping mall near the “MCOT Junction” (Asok-Din Daeng intersection), was widely reported by local residents on social media. Many Facebook users shared updates, warning others to avoid the area due to severe traffic congestion and to stay safe as the situation unfolded. One Facebook user posted during the incident: “Terrifying! Another fire behind Fortune… the entire condo block at MCOT junction is without power… It’s been ages and there’s no sign of the electricity authorities. People are about to faint!” Later that evening, at approximately 21:40, the fire was reported to be fully under control and electricity had been restored to the affected area. -- 2025-04-09

Picture and video from responders. Dash-cam below. A crash occurred in Rayong on 8 April when an SUV lost control on a bend and crashed into an oncoming lorry, resulting in the death of the SUV driver. The incident was captured by a dash-cam and is now under investigation by local authorities. At approximately 11:00, Lieutenant Colonel Raksathat Phetchom, Deputy Investigator of the Pluak Daeng Police Station, received a report of a fatal collision at the Kawa curve, near the Plearn restaurant, on the Pluak Daeng-Suphon Road in Pluak Daeng District. He immediately dispatched officers to the scene. Upon arrival, police found a large white Isuzu six-wheel closed truck on the left side of the road, coming from Pluak Daeng. The truck had damage to the front bumper and door, with pieces of the SUV attached to it. Approximately 10 metres away, the black Ford Everest SUV was overturned. The driver of the SUV, a foreigner later identified as Mr Gregory Michael Bastien aged 56, nationality not disclosed, was found dead at the scene, half pinned under the vehicle. Nearby, a Honda Wave motorcycle, which had been following the truck, was also involved in the collision. The rider, 24-year-old Visanu Swat-saen, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Bangkok Pluak Daeng Hospital. His passenger, 20-year-old Kanakorn Promhan, also suffered injuries and was taken to Pluak Daeng Hospital for treatment. The lorry driver, 49-year-old Amnuay Anok, described how his vehicle was struck by the SUV as it veered off the road, causing the crash. He said the SUV’s collision with his truck caused it to flip over and land on top of the driver, killing him instantly. The motorcycle that followed also collided with the overturned SUV, resulting in injuries to both occupants. Police are investigating the incident further. -- 2025-04-09 My Movie.mp4

Picture from Facebook Panic spread through Chaiyaphum Hospital on the afternoon of 8 April when patients rushed out of the building in confusion, fearing the structure was collapsing. Social media posts quickly circulated, with many speculating that an earthquake had struck, similar to the tremor felt on 28 March. However, authorities later clarified that the chaos was caused by a psychiatric patient who had become agitated and was throwing objects on the second floor. The noise from the commotion led many patients waiting on the first floor to believe that the building was unstable, prompting them to flee in alarm. Some even shouted that the building was “shaking,” further escalating the situation. Chalee Buakhao, head of security at the hospital, confirmed that the panic was a result of the actions of a 20-something psychiatric patient who had been brought in by relatives for treatment. The patient became agitated and began throwing items, which created a loud disturbance. The hospital staff swiftly intervened and managed to calm the situation, allowing the patient to be safely contained. The hospital reassured the public that there was no structural damage to the building and no earthquake had occurred. After the situation was resolved, the staff directed the patients who had fled to return to their waiting areas as normal. -- 2025-04-09

Man Shot Dead on Doi Inthanon Road; Gunman Claims Mistaken Shooting While Hunting Picture courtesy of Khaosod. Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A man was fatally shot near the Doi Inthanon mountain range in Chiang Mai, with the gunman claiming it was a tragic accident during a hunting trip. However, authorities suspect the killing may have been motivated by revenge, as the shooter was a close friend of the victim’s rival. The incident occurred on the evening of 7 April in a remote area along the road to Doi Inthanon, in the village of Ban Luang, Chom Thong District. Police received a report of a man found dead at the scene, identified as Bancha, a 42-year-old from Mae Rim District. Bancha had been shot in the abdomen with a firearm and was discovered in a pool of blood near his vehicle, which had gone missing. Following an investigation, officers arrested 50-year-old Chakrapan, a resident of Chom Thong. He confessed to the shooting, explaining that he and Bancha had been hunting together when it became too dark, and he accidentally shot Bancha instead of a target. Chakrapan then allegedly drove the victim’s vehicle away, though he later led authorities to the firearm used in the incident, which was found at a makeshift shelter in Ban Luang. However, investigators remain skeptical of Chakrapan’s version of events. Police discovered that Bancha had been wanted on charges of attempted murder from a case in 2023 and had been evading arrest. Furthermore, Chakrapan and Bancha’s rival in the case were close friends, raising suspicions that the killing could have been an act of vengeance. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the true motive behind the shooting. -- 2025-04-09

Pictures courtesy of Workpoint. A 44-year-old Myanmar national suffered a devastating workplace injury when his right hand was mangled in a coconut husk shredding machine at a processing site in Amphawa District, Samut Songkhram. Emergency responders from the Sawang Benjatham Rescue Foundation were dispatched to the scene following reports of a worker’s hand being trapped in industrial machinery. The incident occurred at a private residence that had been converted into a coconut husk storage and processing facility, located in Village 7, Plai Phong Phang Subdistrict. At the site, rescue workers discovered the victim, identified as Mr. Mutunthu, in excruciating pain with his right hand firmly lodged in the rotating mechanism of a coconut husk shredder. He was immediately administered oxygen to aid his breathing before responders used hydraulic cutting tools to disassemble parts of the machine. It took approximately 20 minutes to free the worker’s hand, which had been severely mutilated. Medical staff confirmed that Mr. Mutunthu had suffered catastrophic injuries and would lose his right hand, rendering him permanently disabled. First aid was administered on-site before he was urgently transported to Somdet Phra Phutthaloetla Hospital for emergency treatment. Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred while Mr. Mutunthu was feeding coconut husks into the shredder. He reportedly attempted to push the husks deeper into the machine when his hand was inadvertently drawn into the rotating blades. Co-workers quickly shut off the machine and called emergency services. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers of industrial machinery, especially in informal or makeshift work environments. Authorities are to investigate the safety protocols at the facility. -- 2025-04-09

Picture courtesy of ThaiRath. A dramatic confrontation unfolded in Nakhon Si Thammarat when a 19-year-old man, high on methamphetamine, violently attacked a police officer before attempting to escape by jumping into a canal. The incident occurred on 8 April at around 13:00, in the Thasala district of the province. Police had received intelligence about a group of young people using drugs at a house in the area. When officers arrived, they found a group of three to four individuals, who immediately fled in various directions. One of the suspects, later identified as Wanchapong (or Pete) Siri-kun, aged 29, who had already consumed three methamphetamine tablets, became aggressive and punched Lieutenant Colonel Nattawit Choojinda, the Deputy Head of the Investigation Unit at Thasala Police Station, in the face. Taking advantage of the moment, Wanchapong bolted from the scene. Police quickly gave chase, chasing him for about one kilometre before Wanchapong, realising he was cornered, jumped into a nearby canal, hoping to escape by swimming to the opposite bank. However, reinforcements led by Lieutenant Colonel Teerapol Phumchai, Deputy Head of the Investigation Division at the Nakhon Si Thammarat Police Station, arrived in time. Despite being fully clothed, Phumchai wasted no time in diving into the canal to apprehend Wanchapong. During the pursuit, Phumchai injured his foot on a piece of broken ceramic, requiring two stitches. Another officer also sustained minor injuries. Meanwhile, Nattawit, who had been punched, was treated for his head injury and was later cleared for duty. After Wanchapong was arrested, police searched his person and his residence. They discovered 17 methamphetamine tablets, in addition to the three, which he admitted to having consumed earlier. Wanchapong apologised to the officers, explaining that his actions were a result of panic, not intentional hostility. Lieutenant Colonel Phumchai, who recently assumed his position at the Thasala Police Station, has been intensifying efforts to combat drug-related issues in the area, especially around local shops. He emphasised the importance of taking a firm stance against drug use and criminal activity to ensure public safety. -- 2025-04-09

Pictures from responders. A 59-year-old man was killed after a concrete wall collapsed on him while he was attempting to salvage metal from an abandoned rice mill in Ayutthaya province. The incident occurred at approximately 18:00 on 7 April in Bang Sai District. Rescue workers from the Ayutthaya Ruamjai Foundation, Bang Sai unit, were alerted to the scene where a man had reportedly been crushed to death by a falling concrete wall. Upon arrival, authorities found the lifeless body of a man pinned beneath a heavy slab of concrete and blocks. He was later identified as Mr. Chaliew, a resident of Lat Bua Luang District, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. Initial investigations suggest that the victim had been breaking apart sections of concrete in the disused rice mill, likely in an effort to extract metal reinforcement rods. During this process, a section of the concrete wall unexpectedly collapsed, fatally crushing him. Police from Bang Sai Police Station, along with an on-duty physician, conducted an initial examination at the scene. The body was then transferred to Bang Sai Hospital for a formal autopsy. Authorities are now working to locate the victim’s family so that funeral arrangements can be made. -- 2025-04-09

Picture courtesy of Matichon. In a case of road rage in Ayutthaya, a young man was fatally stabbed during a brawl at a red traffic light, only for the attacker to later discover that the victim was a relative. The incident occurred in the early hours of 7 April on Rojana Road in the Sam Ruean subdistrict of Bang Pa-in district. According to police at Bang Pa-in Police Station, 17-year-old Porames (also known as James), from Wang Noi district, was arrested and questioned in connection with the stabbing. He has admitted to the crime. James was reportedly returning from a festival in Uthai district with a group of friends on motorcycles when they stopped at a red light. At the same light, another group of youths, one later identified as the victims, pulled up behind them. James claimed he smiled at them, but received a hostile glare in return. One of the young men allegedly picked up a bottle, appearing ready to throw it. James responded by reminding them they had all just been to the same festival, saying, “We were just at the same event, are you really going to start something?” As the light turned green, James and his group drove off. However, tensions escalated minutes later when the other group, riding in a convoy of around ten motorcycles, signalled for them to stop. A fight broke out on the roadside. During the melee, James claimed he intervened to defend a friend who was being attacked, using a knife he had purchased online to stab two members of the opposing group. One of the victims, 18-year-old Natthanon (also known as Mick), died from his injuries. Another youth, 19-year-old Adisorn, was seriously wounded. After fleeing the scene, James was later apprehended by police following analysis of CCTV footage and eyewitness reports. During questioning, James expressed shock and remorse, stating he had no idea the deceased was a relative until after his arrest. “We just fought because of a misunderstanding. I had no clue he was family,” he said. The Bang Pa-in police chief, Colonel Adirek Pothipan, confirmed that officers were alerted by staff at Wang Noi Hospital after Natthanon succumbed to his injuries. Police quickly launched an investigation, which led to the arrest of the teenage suspect. James has reportedly confessed to all charges. “This is a painful reminder to all young people to think carefully before acting in anger,” Colonel Adirek said. “Not only has a life been lost, but it turns out they were related.” Natthanon’s aunt, 46-year-old Thongmok, visited the police station to collect documents related to his death. She recounted how a relative called her during the night to say her nephew had been stabbed and was in critical condition. “He was just working a part-time job during the school holidays. We never expected this,” she said. “Why resort to violence when there was no real animosity?” James’s mother, 48-year-old Tha, said she was still in shock. “I didn’t know anything until police arrived at our home,” she said. “They said my son had killed someone. I only knew he had gone out with friends.” -- 2025-04-09

Petrol Station Worker Killed After Riding Motorcycle Against Traffic and Crashing into Lorry A 24-year-old petrol station employee was killed on 8 April, in a horrific road collision after riding his motorcycle against traffic and crashing head-on into a six-wheeled refrigerated lorry. Picture from responders. A 24-year-old petrol station employee was killed on 8 April, in a horrific road collision after riding his motorcycle against traffic and crashing head-on into a six-wheeled refrigerated lorry. The incident occurred on the Napru–Benjama Road in the Na San sub-district of Phra Phrom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat. Police Colonel Sangob Chansingh, Superintendent of Phra Phrom Police Station, along with medical personnel from Maharaj Nakhon Si Thammarat Hospital and rescue workers from the Tai Tek Siang Tung Foundation, were dispatched to the scene following reports of a fatal crash. Upon arrival, responders found a white Hino refrigerated lorry registered in Nakhon Si Thammarat with damage to the left front side. Lodged beneath the front wheel was a severely damaged black Honda motorcycle, also bearing local registration plates. Approximately 100 metres away in a grassy area, the body of Mr. Songchai, aged 24, was discovered. He had sustained severe head injuries and multiple fractures, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Initial investigations revealed that Mr. Songchai had been riding his motorcycle against the flow of traffic on the side of the road, reportedly in a hurry to get to work. The lorry, which was carrying a cargo of ice, was travelling at normal speed in the correct lane when the collision occurred. The impact flung Mr. Songchai into the roadside brush, while his motorcycle remained jammed under the front of the lorry, dragged for about 100 metres. The lorry driver, Mr. Mongkol, was still in shock when giving his statement. He claimed that the motorcycle appeared suddenly, travelling in the wrong direction at high speed and veering off the shoulder directly into his path. “Usually if someone is going against traffic, they stay on the shoulder. But this motorcycle swerved onto the main road and came straight at me like he meant to hit me,” said Mr. Mongkol. “The nearest U-turn is two kilometres away, so I don’t understand why he was coming from that direction.” Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from the area and collecting further witness testimonies to determine the precise cause of the incident. Investigators remain puzzled as to why the deceased was riding so recklessly and against traffic, especially when the nearest legal U-turn was within reach. After the autopsy is completed, police will coordinate with the victim’s family to arrange for the body to be returned. -- 2025-04-09

Jealous Husband Beats Man to Death with Plank After Finding Wife at Ex-Husband’s House Picture courtesy of Siam News. Picture courtesy of Siam News. A man has been arrested after violently killing an older friend with a wooden plank in a fit of jealous rage, following a domestic dispute that led his wife to seek shelter at her former husband’s home. At around 23:30 on 7 April, police from Nong Bua Rawe Station in Chaiyaphum province were alerted to a murder at a shelter next to house number 131 in Moo 3, Khok Sa-at Subdistrict, Nong Bua Rawe District. Officers, along with medical personnel from Nong Bua Rawe Hospital and rescue workers from the Sawang Khunatham Foundation, rushed to the scene. They found the body of 63-year-old Mr. Noi, a local man from Sompoi Subdistrict, lying in a pool of blood. He had suffered massive head trauma, with visible brain matter at the scene. He was pronounced dead, and his body was taken for further examination at Chaiyaphum Hospital. Police were initially searching for the homeowner, Mr. Prasopchok, 53, but were instead met by his ex-wife, Ms. Yupin, 43. She told officers that she had had a quarrel with her current husband, Mr. Prakob, 55, earlier that day and left their home to seek help from a close friend, asking to be taken back to her former husband’s house. Mr. Prakob allegedly followed her and, upon discovering Mr. Noi resting in a hammock at the property, flew into a jealous rage. He reportedly grabbed a thick wooden plank and a bamboo stick found nearby and began striking Mr. Noi repeatedly until he died at the scene. Following the attack, Mr. Prakob calmly returned home on his motorbike, where he waited for police and surrendered without resistance. He was taken to Nong Bua Rawe Police Station and charged with murder. During police questioning, Mr. Prakob, expressionless, claimed he was driven by jealousy and admitted he had no prior conflict with the victim, with whom he had even drunk alcohol in the past. He said he wasn’t sure whether the victim had romantic intentions toward his wife. He also confessed to acting alone and striking the victim five to six times while the latter was lying defenseless in the hammock. He described the murder as an impulsive act brought on by a fit of jealousy, not something he had planned. “If you hit a snake, you have to break its back,” he said chillingly, before apologising to the victim’s family. Ms. Yupin, tearful and remorseful, also apologised to the victim’s family. She said she never imagined that asking Mr. Noi to take her to her ex-husband’s home would result in his death. Suffering from poor health and almost completely blind, she said she was too afraid to intervene and ran to get help, but it was too late. She expressed her wish to attend the funeral if someone could accompany her. In a final development, Ms. Yupin’s ex-husband, Mr. Prasopchok, later arrived to take her back into his home, where she had previously lived. -- 2025-04-09

Picture courtesy of Khaosod. An incident occurred in the Prasat subdistrict of Ban Dan district, Buriram province, when a machete slipped from a father’s grip and struck his young daughter on the head, causing a deep wound that exposed the skull. The incident took place as Mr. Kraisorn, 42, was chopping wood to make charcoal using a sugarcane machete. He had modified the tool by attaching a PVC pipe as a makeshift handle to provide a better grip. His daughter, 1 year and 8 months old, was playing a short distance behind him at the time. Mr. Kraisorn explained that he had been cutting a thick branch, which required considerable force. During the swing, the blade unexpectedly detached from the PVC handle, flying backwards and hitting his daughter on the head. He said he had been trying to keep an eye on her and had believed she was safely out of harm’s way, approximately three metres behind him. Upon hearing her sudden cries, he turned to find her bleeding from a severe wound to the centre of her head. He immediately rushed her to Ban Dan Hospital for emergency treatment. Doctors found s gash that was deep enough to expose part of the skull. The child received stitches and remains under observation due to the seriousness of the injury’s location. “I am deeply sorry,” Mr. Kraisorn said. “I tried to be careful, but I still made a terrible mistake.” -- 2025-04-09
