  1. This is an advantage credit cards have over Bitcoin.
  2. Thanks! Yes - they must have just added this. I used it for over two years and this never happened. Of course, it requires a face scan to change the setting from 5,000 baht and it won't take mine, but I guess I can go to the bank for help.
  3. I agree. But I'm also revising my opinion to be much lower of George W.
  4. Yes, I think it's necessary. The Lotus near me recently implemented timed parking. The parking lot immediately went from packed to less than half of the spots being used. People were even parking there and taking a nap in their car, but all that stopped.
  5. My daily limit is 50,000 baht. I was able to withdraw 25,000 baht, but I had to do it 4,000 baht at a time, so I don't think daily limit was a problem. Face scan was set up originally and has a green checkmark in my app settings. My iPhone XR FaceID for login works less than 50 percent of the time, so I think my phone may have some sort of problem with the selfie camera. Will Bangkok Bank turn off this requirement? It just started with the most recent app update.
  6. I tried to withdrawal money this morning from a Bangkok Bank ATM. I needed 25,000 baht, and it required a face scan - "smile with no teeth showing, smile with teeth showing, blink three times". It was always rejected. I kept lowering the withdrawal amount - 5,000 baht required the scan, but 4,000 baht went through. So I stood there and did seven withdrawals. Their system is buggy and creepy.
  7. I think Thaksin's business dealings had something to do with this, some sort of squabble that got out of hand, and China took advantage to destabilize its neighbors. But I don't know how innocent the Thai side actually is.
  8. On Twitter I keep seeing AI videos of soldiers getting shot or blown up. It makes it seem like this is all a big media production. And we still don't know the real reason for all this.
  9. If you get involved with police for something, could they check this? My understanding was that if they see you don't have a valid extension they will hold you for that.
  10. Each week this drags on is worse for Anutin. People thought this would be an easy conflict against a kooky country and are going to get tired of it.
  11. I asked them if they sold Ivermectin and they said they did not.
  12. Thai Customs is getting really strict. I just tried to send a Christmas package out of Thailand and it got sent back because one of the gifts was medicine - those herbal inhalers that are little plastic bottles with herbs that Thai people sniff.
  13. Thanks for this - I ordered one from Lazada a couple months ago and really like it. It's easy to make a drinkable cup of coffee.
  14. UPDATE: The package was held up in Thai customs and returned. Two problems: 1. I included a bottle of body wash in it, and you aren't allowed to send liquids. 2. I included three of those herbal inhalers you see Thai people sniffing. You aren't allowed to send medication. The post office called me yesterday and I went there today to remove the items. They looked through everything else, sealed the box, and said it should go through this time. No extra charge.
  15. The US was headed for a new Golden Age in the time after Trump's first election but before Dr. Fauci intentionally derailed everything. I'm a little pessimistic now. Trump seems distracted, no other politician or party seems interested in this, and technocratic control freaks are emboldened.
  16. I was miserable when I spent a month there last year. Going to a restaurant, even if you can afford to splurge, feels like you just got ripped-off. The everyday expenses chip away at you, day after day.
  17. “Leaders of the new generation shouldn’t host any wars, if people of the new generation have wars, it will be bad for both sides” -- former PM Paetongtarn in her leaked call with Hun Sen. No more old-man wars.
  18. Sometimes it isn't pleasant, but I prefer it to the sterile US approach. The streets feel more alive and human.
  19. Maybe Hun Sen is uncertain about the loyalty of his top military commanders and needs Thailand to thin them out a bit more. A few more strategic hits and peace returns.
  20. It's like they added beer-flavoring to a tasteless carbonated alcohol drink.
  21. I would pay it and then try to find a different place next time.
  22. I never liked Tom Yum soup until eating it in Cambodia. The mix of flavors was perfect and suddenly I saw the appeal.
  23. It's depressing thinking about the next four months like this.
  24. I got here four years ago also and it's much worse now where I'm at in Bangkok. It was bad last year, but I don't even remember issues in the previous years. I walk barefoot on our tile porch and I can feel a powdery substance on my toes.
  25. It's terrible now. I sent a box with Christmas presents to the US this week and it cost 2,600 baht. Not doing that again. It's like they want to shut down this type of communication.
