The U.S. needs to have a negotiator that truly knows how to negotiate. Someone who actually knows about tariffs and their consequences. Taking an intransigent position will only make a bad situation worse.
Xi is quite aware of the risks in invading Taiwan. The big unknown is whether the U.S. and her allies will come to Taiwan's aid. Preemptive strikes against them guarantees their involvement and will surely escalate into more than China can take on. I'll just leave it at that.
John Deere has temporarily shut down it Ottumwa, Ohio plant due to falling sales. Some production has been shifted to Ramos, Mexico. Its Augusta, Georgia factory is still operating.
Just because import duties are reduced or eliminated does not mean people will buy more. There has to be a demand for the products to begin with. People are already cutting back because of inflation and job losses. They are also learning to do without or substituting less costly items for cheaper ones.
Right now most are bulk commodities like soybeans and corn. I don't know if there is much room for growth in these areas. One possibility is beef. Right now 44% of beef imports are from Australia.
