  1. Would be interesting to hear from some Arabs who choose to live in Israel and have been granted Israeli citizenship. There are a bunch of them. I recall an article in which guy of Arab descent who lived in the West Bank described his ability to travel back and forth and throughout Israel conducting business with Israelis. He evidently was quite happy with his success. Any difficulties Gazans have are the result of the demands imposed by Hamas requiring them to live under Hamas's constitution which calls for the destruction of Israel. They are obliged to support Hamas' atrocities. There are consequences for those that don't.
  2. Although similar environmental protectionism exists elsewhere, California's is ridiculously extreme.
  3. So, exactly what do you expect Israel to do? Why don't you go over there and convince Hamas to stop using innocent civilians as human shields by hiding out in hospitals, schools and homes. Yes, it is unfortunate and sad that innocent people are dying, but what is Israel supposed to do? The world is anxious to hear your solution.
  4. I understand the first part of your post addressed the issue, but then you added. " Inhumane. A subspecies, IMO." Just saying.
  5. If I recall right, it has always been Hamas who first violated any agreements , with Israel responding to those violations.
  6. In the next round Israel will most likely demand that Hamas be replaced as the governing authority in Gaza. The problem is that no one really knows what shape or form of the entity to replace Hamas. This needs to be resolved quite soon since it has been reported Hamas is replacing much of it's decimated force with new recruits. One bright spot is that Hamas will not be getting much help in restocking its arsenal. Hezbollah has been greatly weakened and Iran's weapons factory in Syria was demolished by Israeli commandos. No matter what, Hamas needs to go, the sooner the better.
  7. Whoever buys Tik Tok is will find that China's restriction on the use of the social media's algorithm is going to be a major roadblock. Could be wrong, but I think Musk has already regarded this problem as a no go.
  8. This is the right move. If the cease fire holds and leads to a permanent cessation of hostilities it will weaken Iran's influence in the Middle East. It really shouldn't matter who is responsible for brokering the deal unless one wants to play politics.
  9. IMO, Trump want to keep Tik Tok alive as a bargaining chip with Xi. Sacrificing a national security threat for something of lesser importance is a foolish and dangerous strategy.
  10. Yes, no Santa Ana type winds to spread the embers.
  11. With the admirals heading to Point Loma. I always admired the homes there with their immaculate landscaping. As for the nice people I encountered this is one of my more unforgetful experiences in Ocean Beach. Went to buy some beer in a local market and used my buddies Arizona driver's license ID. No picture; description read, blue eyes, red hair, which definitely did not describe me. She smiled and sold me the beer anyway. I know she recognized me from prior visits.
  12. I was stationed on a destroyer home ported in San Diego during the early 1960's. It was a friendly place which welcomed the Navy, a major contributor to the city's economy. My buddy and I rented a duplex apartment in Ocean Beach not far from the beach. Today, I rather doubt it if the building still exists. It has most likely been replaced by something that is valued in the millions.
  13. Here's one in-the-know person that agrees with you. https://www.foxnews.com/entertaiment/million-dollar-listing-star-says-palisades-residents-will-not-return-after-devastating-la-fires
  14. This is one way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temperature_measurement https://www.scienceabc.com/eyeopeners/how-do-we-know-the-temperature-on-earth-millions-of-years-ago.html
  15. Yes, it would have been a lot safer had he an OBA (oxygen breathing apparatus) and a fire resistant suit. But he did have the backup of a swimming pool full of water that he could find refuge in. Jumping into the ocean is what saved a bunch of people in the Lahaina fire. I know, the fire didn't surround them while in the ocean. As a retired airline pilot he probably experienced situations that required quick thinking. Just imagine, his actions saved his and two of his neighbor's homes while everything around them burned.
  16. I didn't continue to argue that point because I definitely am not even close to being a simpleton. I questioned your climate change assertion and sought information from other verifiable sources. In reference to "you should know," you should know it's not wise to resort to name calling and uncalled-for comments.
  17. As a followup, and not to be a nitpicker, my original question was whether the diversion of rivers was climate change and not whether it led to climate change. A simpleton, IMO, would have continued to argue that point.
  18. After doing a little research I see your point, especially after Kazakhstan is reporting "incredible progress" by allowing water to flow again into the Aral Sea. Supposedly, desertification has stopped and is being slowly reversed. Good news, if true. Now it seems Russia's dams on the Volga are creating similar problems with the Caspian Sea. However, I resent you labeling me a simpleton. Twenty years ago, I joined Thai Visa to learn new things, not to be ridiculed.
  19. True, but not all Thai women are hookers or behave like them.
  20. I believe I am more patient and easy going and not old and grumpy.
  21. Surely you jest. Was the diversion of rivers feeding the Aral Sea considered climate change?
