But many of the components used to make the phones are manufactured in China and then the phones get imported into the USA. So Trump's flip-flop on Chinese tariffs means that they won't be taxed now when American companies like Apple bring their phones with components made in China into the USA to be sold.

What is it with right-wingers and their compulsive need to derail every conversation with off-topic drivel, shameless whataboutism, and deliberate obfuscation of facts? This post is clearly only about one thing, a discussion between Bill Maher and Steve Bannon, it has absolutely nothing to do with Maher’s personal feelings toward Trump. It’s about Bannon’s brazen attempt to float the idea of Trump injecting himself into a third term. How do you manage to so completely miss the point of the entire topic? Either you didn’t read it, didn’t understand it, or you’re intentionally playing dumb. Whichever it is, all you’ve accomplished here is broadcasting your own foolish ignorance to everyone reading.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c20xn626y81o Trump is going to exempt all the imported parts Tesla needs to build their cars, as well as all the components required to make iPhones. He’s going to carve out a lot of exemptions. Musk and Cook have handed him millions, he has to throw them a lifeline in return.

China’s export restrictions on rare earth elements (REEs) to the U.S., announced in early April 2025, target critical materials like samarium, gadolinium, terbium, dysprosium, lutetium, scandium, and yttrium, which are vital for avionics in advanced military systems, including the sixth-generation F-47 fighter jet. These elements are used in high-performance magnets, radar systems, actuators, and jet engine coatings, with the F-47 heavily reliant on them for its stealth and operational capabilities. China produces about 90% of global REEs and dominates processing, giving it significant leverage.

Seems like the perfect time to do it, now that all diplomacy between China and the US is already broken. There’s nothing to lose.

The 2014 Koh Tao Murders - Who 'really' done it?
FriscoKid replied to Don Giovanni's topic in Off the beaten track
Bob, that is fantastic news. I’d like to formally hire your investigative services to finally crack the case of why toilet paper always sticks to my shoe when I leave the bog. It’s been haunting me for years. Please advise us of your rates and whether you work weekends. And if you’re able to solve that one, I’ve got a few follow-up cases already eagerly awaiting your expertise: 1 - Who keeps moving my cheese in the fridge even though it’s clearly labelled “DO NOT TOUCH”? 2 - Where do all my socks mysteriously disappear to after laundry day? Is there a portal to another realm within my washing machine? 3 - Why does my phone only autocorrect text messages properly when I’m not in a rush? 4 - Who invented those tiny useless plastic forks in takeaway fish and chips boxes and what exactly were they trying to prove? 5 - And why does Mrs. Smith keep telling people that you can’t ever finish the job of hitting that secret spot of hers properly? Eagerly awaiting your findings. Please invoice me in baht or used Singha bottle caps if you prefer. -

No bad. Good for a giggle. Far better than 90% of the windups and trolling posts I read on AN. -
GammaGlobulin’s been posting up a storm, wondering why he feels so cold in Thailand’s hot season despite his trusty Panasonic ACs pumping out 70,000 BTUs. He’s layered up in two winter coats, reminiscing about his love for Mick Jagger and Secretariat, and hinting at a possible end to 25 years of being single with a guy in a green shirt catching his eye. He shrugs off Chiang Mai’s smoke and heat, insists his ACs never freeze up, and tosses in some classic rock vibes, basically, he’s just chilling (literally) and ready for more pure male love!

Undeniably 25 satang short of a Baht, or as the locals would say, “Sahm Salung.” I’ve put him on ignore too, mostly just to make it easier to count how many posts on this topic weren’t penned by him, so I could work out how many were. If my maths are correct, that’s 19 mind-numbing posts to himself, and only God and YouTube know how many music videos he tossed in just to let us know he’s got the air-con temporarily set to 18 degrees. At least it gave him something to bang on about for a bit. The whole thing’s clearly a bit dire. I reckon he’s trying to send some kind of message to the world about his mental state, but no one’s even watching. It’s all a bit sad, really. I’d love to be a fly on the wall in that flat of his just to see what he’s up to during the other 21 hours of the day when he’s not having full-blown debates with himself on AN. He’s probably sprinting about starkers and slathered in honey, just to see how many particles of the Chiang Mai’s PM2.5 stick to him, purely in the name of science, of course.

Amazing Gigi, why even bother posting? You can just stay home, watch all the 70s rock videos you want and talk to yourself to your heart's content. Same result and no need to post anything at all on AN. I imagine you do leave your little mouse trap once a year though to go and renew your visa? My question to you is, how do you actually pull that off without the Immigration officers realizing that you're one tampon short of a drippy menstrual cycle?

Wow, 7 replies to your own OP and not a single response in between from anyone else. That must be a New World record for AN delusional behavior. Not to mention the seven music videos. But don't worry, I didn't read a single word of any of it. All I did was post this reply. I promise. You can go on talking to yourself without any further interruption. I'll leave it with you.

Not unattractive, but not a lot of talent either. -

Not sure why women would even find him attractive. His hair and overall look was hideous, his demeanor always crass and tasteless. I assume women who go for that don't have much self respect. -

That's sad. Makes it all the more worse. I used to like Ross sometimes, but after I heard that I place him down at the same level as Brand -

I listened to that, and everything Brand does is always in such poor taste. I didn’t feel the urge to laugh even once, it was just sick, vile, and childish. Honestly, I’m surprised someone hasn’t taken his head off already. That said, I suspect the whole thing was staged, so you can probably put your mind at ease. I highly doubt they actually left that message on Sachs’ answering machine. They could have been sued or even arrested if they had. It seemed like a ridiculous and fake stunt. But it still reveals who he is and how dark his thinking really goes. Who even thinks to call someone, comedy or not, and tell a man, completely unprovoked, that they raped his granddaughter? Where is the humor in that? I have absolutely no empathy for this guy. Regardless of how the current case ends, his image is already trashed, and he is going to pay for it financially, emotionally, and mentally, and I am completely here for it. Just based on what we have all seen and heard publicly, the things we know are fact, he deserves every bit of the backlash and fallout coming his way. Below are some of the legal problems he could have been facing if he really left that message on the answering machine and it had been reported to the police: 1. Malicious Communications Act 1988 Under this law, it’s an offense to send a message that is grossly offensive, indecent, obscene, or menacing. A voicemail admitting to raping someone, even as a joke, would very likely be considered grossly offensive or threatening. This can carry a sentence of up to two years in prison if prosecuted on indictment. 2. Communications Act 2003, Section 127 This law also covers offensive and threatening messages sent via public communication networks, including phone calls. The standard penalty here is up to six months imprisonment or a fine. 3. Public Nuisance or Harassment Depending on the circumstances, the person could also be charged with causing public nuisance or harassment, especially if the message caused serious distress to the recipient. 4. False Allegations or Wasting Police Time If the message leads to a police investigation and it’s discovered the claim was false or a prank, the person could be charged with wasting police time. In serious cases, making a false allegation of rape can lead to charges of perverting the course of justice, which is a serious offense and can result in a prison sentence of several years. 5. Defamation or Civil Liability The person who left the message might also be sued in civil court for defamation or emotional distress, especially by the person falsely implicated or any affected family member. -

Possibly also audio recordings and maybe even some video footage too.
