In 5 years, 10 years or 50 years it would seem destined that Bangkok will once more become a city of klongs; perhaps a true Venice of the East. Long tail boats instead of buses and moorings at what are now the second floor windows of offices and condos.
There will have to be a lot of long term planning and heavy investment to avoid the scenario. Reforestation to alleviate flooding, higher dykes to prevent sea incursion all take a lot of long term effort and finance.
The flooding can be delayed but if sea levels and flood levels rise then eventually the capital will have to be abandoned.
Bangkok is not alone with this possible future problem; many of the worlds major cities are built on low lying land at tidal river mouths where nautical trade built up. London, New Orleans, Bangkok, different parts of the world but potentially same long term problem.
Perhaps the smart money should head for the hills now.

How about introducing legislation making it compulsory for all buildings to be built on large heavy duty jacks.
That way when there are floods houses, offices etc. cam be jacked up out of the reach of the flood waters and then lowered to their original levels when the waters have passed.

Nevertheless, I don't feel sorry for him, but death penalty is not correct. Nobody has the right to kill, even not goverments...
Fatfather
And it is a mystery to me that a Buddhist state uses the death penalty.
Well an alternative may be compulsory breast implants and teeth extractions followed by return to prison.

"How about;
The King and I, or is it still banned over here? "
by Jaiyenyen
Last I heard both versions are still banned as being disrespectful to the royal family.

Is there any connection with the number of katoys found in Thailand?

Like every other good size town or city I've been too. You can find entertainment if you look/ask around or do your research on the internet before your visit to Roi-Et. That applies to the cultural side and the night life.

I heard that there are a number of Thai workers in the forests of Sweden at this time of year who earn money from the collection of wild forest berries. That would put Thai people in the right place at the right time picking their own "wrong" snack

They consulted a book and still didn't learn anything.
The Darwinian process in action
And really didn't deserve the red a kind gentleman gave me.
I'll let you have a green to compensate.
Some people just don't understand black humour or irony

From what I can see of the articles on wikileaks the ban is justified on the grounds of good taste, rather than some evil Machiavellian political plot.
If some of the items were published in the UK press or media there would probably be injunctions or a libel suits ensuing.

You can't be a beauty contestant without displaying the goods.
Miss Taliban just flashing her eyes at the judges from behind her veils will never reach the finals.

Perhapds lift or elevator is the wrong name for the appliance.
In accordance with what in the UK is known as the trades desciption act perhaps a new name should be devised?

1200kg of gunpowder!! That's over a tonne. Just how big are these rockets? That's more than some small cars weigh.

If they just withdraw the on net call charges this will mean the phone companies end up with bigger profits, higher rates to the consumer and will especially benefit the company with the largest customer base. No benefit to the consumer unless they out their off net prices.

I am surprised that there is still a problem with TB in Thailand, Every Thai I have seen with bare shoulders has shown the scars from TB inoculations.

So, If he is found guilty and gets sentenced to the full term he will be 110 years old before he gets out.

So now official licensced rip off merchants.
At least Dick Turpin used to wear a mask

haha !!!
Could someone kindly upload some photos of the protest ?
If it were true I'd love to see that and the looks on the faces of the local Thai people

So for an iphone to tell me I'm looking at cherry red, purple, green, blue, yellow or any other colour is a waste of time, I know it is. I might see a slightly different shade than 'normal' people but to me that IS the 'normal' shade and I know the name of it.
I too am also "red/green deficient" but I think my case may be just a little bit more extreme than Sumrit's. There are instances that I have to ask what colour a red item or green item is. I also get some blues and purples confused. Can't be certain, but an electronic application like this may be a greater value to someone like me.
£As someone also red/green colour blind)
Colour is all subjective. we agree names for colours but we have no way of knowing if what other people see is the same as us.
People hearing me sing also describe me as tone deaf ....but it doesn't prevent me enjoying good music

"The tape records widths of between 49 and 56 millimetres"
I first thought that scale is diameter, but after looking on our caliper I doubt that. Thai men would be monster.
Than I took the size /3.14: 56/3.14=17.8 mm that looks too small.
What mistake did I made???
No mistake in the calculation so perhaps they measure when Thai men are still children and just achieving puberty?

Most times if I'm not in a rush and an average extra 15 minutes is not a problem I use the bus service. If the hotel I want is not on the route I grab a cab once I'm in central Bangkok, Much cheaper for one person.

Stupidity? I don't think they are that stupid. It was intentional. They did it in front of a crowd, watching and shooting videos...
Some way to add to their excitement. 1,000 baht is a cheap price to pay for such a good experience!
At 4-30 in the morning were they filming with infra red or were the crowd indecently close .
She really was the early bird that got the worm

ํYes, once the Ta-khab bit me and gave me tennis ball swollen ankle for a week. The allergic kid could even die.
However, I hate leech most.
I saw some small gray foxes in UK. Could not immigine before that the fox can be urban pest !
Ha Ha from my short experience there I agree on the hooded youth, the punks with no hood look very normal. I had one punk classmate and he was very gentle.
Dangerous place now.
One old boy (62) got kicked to death by the hooded youth sp. Hoodius Youthum in my old seaside town a couple of weeks ago. Numerous beatings of old people for their pensions etc. Hideous pics in local papers of some poor old Gran's swollen face, all hooked up to wires and tubes, taken usually a few days before they die. Routine.
I think all decent folks over there should carry .45's. It'd put some manners on these scumbags.
The best tool for the job would be a 12gauge shotgun.

Snakes are cool and provide an invaluable service - I used to collect them as a kid.
Imagine somebody trying to kill you every time ya went out.
One day the survivors will be in snake parks only.
More folks are killed by lightening in leap years, than via lethal snake bites.
BR>Jack
So in 3 years out of 4 snakes kill more people than lightning?
I believe the worlds biggest killer is one of it's smaller creatures....the mosquito.

Do you really believe that people will come only in thailand because they can have a free visa ?
what is the financial impact of such a measure for the holiday budget
What next ? They will give candy at the immigration
Actually yes they will, since one visa is for a 1000 Baht for many this means an extra night of accomodation, hence a family of four will get for extra nights or extra shopping money
For people on holidays of less than a month it won't make any difference as they can already have a free1 month tourist entry. So a 1000 baht spread over 30 to 60 days make very little difference to the daily budget.

Why don't the authorities just throw loads of sponges into the river to soak up the water?
