  1. A cease fire has been mediated in Malaysia. I don't have a link
  2. So Tibet, ongoing border disputes with India, the 9 dash line and the South China Sea, Taiwan. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't non colonial occupied Siam held large swathes of Laos and Cambodia when the French came along. Hardly surprising established borders is a European/American thing. It came with the techniques for surveying. Seems to me that agreed borders have meant that has been more peace since the 19th century not less. It seems that the French just re-established the correct Cambodian borders. "In the 19th century, Cambodia's borders were heavily influenced by the expansionist policies of Siam and Vietnam, leading to a period of dual vassalage and territorial disputes. Ultimately, Cambodia became a French protectorate in 1863 to safeguard its remaining territory from further encroachment. Elaboration: Dual Vassalage: Cambodia found itself caught between the competing powers of Siam and Vietnam, becoming a tributary state to both. This meant the Cambodian monarchy was obligated to pay tribute and acknowledge the authority of both regional powers, weakening its sovereignty. Territorial Losses: Both Siam and Vietnam exerted pressure on Cambodia, annexing territories and interfering in internal affairs. This resulted in the loss of significant portions of Cambodian territory, particularly in the Mekong Delta region to Vietnam.
  3. "Kier Starmer the shortest PM in history". Well that accolade goes to Liz Truss but it was still a dumb stupid idea. He is still here unfortunately.
  4. Yes everybody knows that Thailand needs to diversify into other things. Scam centres seems to be a profitable business to get into.
  5. How what affects the current conflict. If you have something to say then say it. You were the one starting the conversation about the conflict affecting Thailand's tourist numbers. I expanded it to Cambodia's criminal activities and the fact that Cambodia had far more to lose.
  6. I didn't say that it would. I said Cambodia would have more to lose than Thailand would lose in tourist revenues if the World put pressure on Cambodia to close the scam centres. Border dispute or not pressure should be put on Cambodia to close the scam centres.
  7. You are right, I got it wrong. It is 60% of GDP https://www.asiafinancial.com/cambodian-scam-centres-straining-ties-with-states-near-and-far
  8. The US is East of Russia. Any way it is Russian crossing the demarcation line. Russia doesn't like the fact the countries that it used to bully grew some balls and effed off out of the Warsaw Pact.
  9. Invested in the scam centres? And China isn't one to lecture on sovereignty rights.
  10. If international pressure to close the scam centres was brought onto Cambodia that would be 40% of its GDP gone overnight. Who has the most to lose here, Thailand or Cambodia?
  11. Actually I am going to follow this with interest to see how Cambodia's backer China reacts to Cambodia's legality to occupy the land. Given China sticking two fingers up to international courts ruling on accessing the South China Sea.
  12. Must have gone to Vanessa Feltz to get those battle fatigues. You need to be British to get that.
  13. Exactly then they would have wanted yet another buffer. Also don't forget prior to break up of Soviet Russia and the Eastern Block there were Nato countries that had land borders with Russia and one with a sea border.
  14. Isn't there something wrong with that map. Doesn't include the US or Canada.
  15. Isn't that what the treaty drawn up with France says, it is the watershed. The map is wrong
  16. In the minds of the Russians the line that runs down the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
  17. The written agreement says the watershed is the border. The Thais first disputed this some time in the 1920s/1930s. The problem is the map is wrong.
  18. Cambodia has ratified the Ottawa Treaty banning land mines. Are you suggesting that Cambodia is not laying land mines. Whether Thailand is or isn't using cluster munitions it was the use of land mines that I was alluding to so this has nothing to do with the BBC. A Thai soldier got his leg blown off by one.
  19. I also found reference to the Times of India, Oneindianews and NewsXLive quoting cluster munitions. It is not unknown for the BBC to quote other sources.
  20. The report says "Thailand also accused Cambodia of firing into civilian areas and evacuated all villages deemed to be within the radius of its rockets. Cambodia, for its part, accused Thailand of using cluster munitions. Cluster munitions are banned in much of the world because of their indiscriminate effect on civilian populations. Thailand has not responded to the allegations." So Cambodia accused Thailand of using cluster munitions not the BBC.
