Yep, many of the people here seem "soft". I'm not sure if it's the catering/service culture or what it is. I saw less of it when I was up in Isaan.

Examples: 1. A restaurant server insists on flipping the pages of a menu for me even when I move away and try to do it myself. 2. A laundrymat worker stands there and explains every little thing about how to work the machine at a self-service laundry even when I avoid eye contact and obviously want to be left alone. Does anyone else find this demeaning? I'm a full grown man and feel like I'm being treated like a baby at many places. I don't need someone turning menu pages or telling me how to add soap to a washing machine 🤷🏻‍♂️ Is this just the Thai way, or is there a demeaning aspect at play? A control situation? I never see it happen with Thai's to each other.

It's not normal. Most people here walk around with dirty feet.

A lot of guys let themselves go as they age. This is more of a problem in Pattaya then in other areas. I'm often the only one in the gym at my place, all the other guys just sit around the pool or waddle in the water while I work out. The gym here has windows and I can see the pool area while working out. I don't really mind though since I like having the gym to myself. I think some of it is not really having anywhere to go. If you're retired in Pattaya and in your 60's-70's there is not a lot of reason to work out (unless you enjoy it and are into yourself) because there is always someone unhealthier then you around and they don't have any future plans to move somewhere where being fit is valued. There is also the dating factor. When they are paying for women there is no incentive be be healthy because it's all just a 'yes'. I would never really consider asking any of them to work out though. I just figure they are set in their ways for one reason or another. I think a lot of them don't really respect themselves enough to put the work in, or that they are just too old.

Credit cards are all about self control. I would question whether Thailand is right for you if you can't control your spending.

Putting lipstick on a pig. The roads are not wide enough and no sidewalks there. Lines are meant for roads that are built correctly for the area. Otherwise, the rule does not work and it's ignored. Or worse, people expect others to follow them, then when they don't it causes more accidents and problems then not having the lines at all.

If you did meet someone you wanted to commit to after being a philanderer for many years the sexual act may not bond you as much.

Yep. It could be just to make the road look more modern for tourism and have nothing to do with traffic rules. The Thai's seem too dumb to really follow the rules. They would need to pass a test on the lines when getting a drivers license without using an agent for the test and being able to read.

I dunno, man. I think I'm better off being somewhat of a loner in Pattaya. It saves me from getting involved in other people's problems. There is a difference between socializing and getting involved. It's not good for people who are suicidal though. They need to get out of their heads and socialize, ask for help, etc.

Or how you will end up. There is plenty of evidence around that a whoring lifestyle in a place like pattaya does not end well. Those guys in small rooms are not exceptions, they are guys like you who thought they moved to paradise 10 years ago.

Maybe the guy ran out of money in pattaya and could not get laid. Imagine sitting around in a small room, watching everyone else walk around with freelancers and partying and not being able to do much. That pretty much leaves stroking your pud in a small fan room and drinking unless he was working or had hobbies. If he went out drinking he was probably flying solo most of the time when he was at a bar if he was a cheapskate. No ladydrinks, etc. Everyone's friendly if they think you have money. When that appears to no longer be the case he may find people tend to "move on" and kind of disappear into the woodwork.

There are a lot of prostitutes living in those dingy buildings as well. He ends up getting frustrated in a small room and paying to bang someone next door all the time, then drinking beer in the room. He can't resist because it's being offered on the doorstep or he is listening to her do it all the time with other residents. It turns into an unescapable situation.
