  1. I think there is a difference here between want and need. Drug addicts need their drugs. Many people want tiger products.

That's another whole discussion on the topic of addiction as a disease, drug use/abuse etc and there is some evidence that drug addiction is only a very small % of drug users, thus most consumers of drugs in the USA for instance use them recreationally not because of an addiction, similar to tiger parts in China.

Have you never been to a "crack house" or a "shooting gallery" these people are totally enslaved by their "habit" I have seen them quite a few times in Manchester, and believe me when I say quite frankly they are on the increase , There was a clinic quite near me were young men and women used to wait in file on a Monday morning for Needles and methadone ,then sell the methadone and buy a tenner bag of "brown " to "shoot up" with ,many try "rehab", sadly most go back to their "old ways" in a very short space of time ,I take no pride in saying there is not much about the vile drug trade I have not witnessed by my own eyes .

Quite correct , Having personally seen first hand the effects of Going "cold turkey" ,I hardly think there is intense physical and mental stress if Some Chinese guy does not get his daily fix /ration of ground up tigers penis .
  3. The large scale NGO operations rely on the military. Humanitarian aid would have to be scaled back significantly and done with what is manageable without all the other things usually involved. We need to do what we can, not what we want to do.

"no security without development; no development without security"

A recent good news story from Afghanistan but also one that underlines the perils faced by NGOs operating in Afghanistan.

Thanks for the link Folium ,it just goes to show you the thankless jobs these marvelous people perform, often at great risk to their own safety .

Are you talking about the NGO folk or SF, or both?

Good question Folium , I was just about to edit my post when I saw yours ,Yeah there is no doubt whatsoever our service men deserved the highest accolade ,having said that being I'm a bit "old fashioned" IMHO the real brave people are those who walk into the "dragons den" armed only with love and compassion for their fellow men , irrespective of religion or gender.

  5. Humanitarian assistance needs to be given to ensure that the seeds of progress are planted, but reliance on such aid needs to be discouraged.

Humanitarian assistance cannot be given unless the aid workers are protected. NGOs make repeated requests for assistance. Please remove the landmines, or please protect our aid convoy, or please help us build a school or please protect the school from being burnt down etc. As the number of personnel continues to diminish, these aid groups end up dumping the aid and running seeing most of it pilfered or paying protection to the local tribes to get some aid through.

Unfortunately, attempting to assist the Afghanis lift themselves out of the dirt doesn't seem to be working. Perhaps it is attributable to local fears, or more likely intimidation. It seems that the bad guys have won for now. All eyes can look to Pakistan for the reason why.

You make a very valid point GK ,which should be taken on board by all members ,as we all know (or should know ) the fate that some humanitarian groups have met on the flimsiest excuse,s like distributing Bibles! ,it's somewhat difficult to help any one who's idea's were formed before the Spanish inquisition and are still here now to this day .
  6. Yeah Yunla I could not agree any more, however there could well be a problem, suppose when the Allied forces leave and the Taliban take over Afghanistan what then?,the "bleeding heart" brigade could well proclaim "look what they've done"!, abandoned these poor people to the tender mercy's of the Taliban , bit of a "damned if the do and damned if they don't" situation eh.wink.png

  7. http://www.guardian....children-murder Yunla ,let me write quite plainly, the Taliban have about as many morals as a cockroach ,there is an absolute welter of information (if one cares to look) to back this up ,the link above is just one of the many , and yet when Nato forces kill civilians which could well be planted there as Human shields , Many in the west wring their hands and Shout from the rooftops about the activities of Nato without really exploring the Crux of the problem ,OK many say (rightly IMHO) we should not be there in the first place ,problem here is we are ain't we sacrificing our young men for seemingly no purpose ,this is a "dirty war" and people should accept just that for what it is.
  8. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8519507.stm How does any one know that the "civilians" were not "human shields" this vile practice along with grooming 8 year old kids to act as suicide bombers is just part and parcel of what the Taliban view as "acceptable" in their war against not only the Infidel but their own people too, as the Taliban kill far more "civilians" than the allied forces , the link says it all .

  9. Looks like you've outed yourself now Comrade Colin! Max Keiser is an outspoken, self-publicist with an anti US, pro environmental, anti corporate approach which not surprisingly accounts for his current jobs with Russia Today and Iran's Press TV. Perhaps your Fox News, Daily Mail fixation was just a front!

Yeah he spoke very glowingly of Obama got to admitlaugh.png , and I did say its only his opinion and he could be off target ,I left it to the experts like yourself to put me on the right road,as I did not comment personally or state whether I agreed or disagreed with the article now did I?,but nice try anyway at shooting the messenger, you are really going to have to concentrate more as it would appear you are in danger of getting carried away with the exuberance of you own verbosity smile.png
  10. Scott Walker won the recall election in Wisconsin by lowering their unemployment rate - it is 6.7 compared to 8.2 for the rest of the country - as well as taxes and curbing the power of the unions. None of this bodes well for Obama in 2012.

http://www.bbc.co.uk...canada-18336641 Yeah UG maybe a taste of things to come Eh clap2.gif

Exit polling showed the majority voting were actually PRO Obama. Nice try.

I think one thing Wisconsin showed us, particularly in a union state, is that public opinions can often differ from opinions expressed in the privacy of a voting booth.

As they say In Manchester ,always watch what they actually do ,and don't listen to what they say,or as the old adage says ,"action speaks louder than words"wink.png
  11. Trawling Folium ?, nah just asking for any ones opinion on the Video in my post #54 who are on the left such as yourself, is that too much of a request?smile.png

Most people respond better when not being badgered.

BTW I have been called many things in my life but being described as "on the left" is hilarious and a first, though I suppose everything is relative, eg Gordon Brown could be described as charismatic if stood beside a stunned slug!

Show me were I "badgered" any one in my post #54 ? ,and are you saying that you do not discount anything you read in the "Daily mail" ?
  12. If they didn't have Nuclear Weapons in Pakistan the US would be telling them that black is white and they would have no choice but to accept it. Balance of Power something that the Western nations don't want for obvious reasons.

Pray inform me what are the "obvious reasons" ?smile.png

Western dominance both economic and military, had Pakistan not had Nuclear weapons, they would have been subjected to some kind of invasion with it came to the so called 'War on Terror' probably on the basis that they were harbouring members of the Taliban. Nuclear weapons level the field somewhat and make even the most arrogant think again and again before attempting anything rash. This is one of the reasons why the US and its Western allies are so intent on Iran not acquiring Nuclear capabilities. Once they have them they are no longer in a position to dominate the Middle East through their client state Israel (the only one with Nuclear weapons in the region). When one can strike with impunity ones rationality becomes more easily warped and atrocities and loss of life can be more easily justified in terms of the greater good (Iraq, Libya) When another state has the power to wipe you out too, then dialogue becomes a better option. After all what right does the West have to assume a dominant position the World? Military might makes right or at least so they have believed and anyone who disagrees with them and wishes to pursue the same rational is going to be opposed. So good on Pakistan for having the means to keep its independence.

Thanks for you answer Marquess ,however "Rational" is hardly how I would describe the Pakistani Nation, and as far as being Independent ,maybe you should check up on just how much Aid from the West they are receivingwink.png and as far as Pakistan Harboring the Taliban I see the US drones are quite busy wiping them out with only a few whimpers from the Pakistani Govt in denouncing them , in other words no drones ,no aid .http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/feb/16/hamid-karzai-confronts-pakistan-leadership

Of course the "proof of the pudding " will be upon us in a few short months ,personally I think ( and hope) Romney will score a "touch down" , I was hoping for some feed back from the link I produced in my post #54 , obviously no further comment was needed by us on the right ,and the "source police" chose to completely ignore it cos it was on "FOX NEWS" laugh.png
  14. Hopefully, the King of Spain will take note as he was off on an elephant shooting expedition in Africa.

Perhaps stringing up the dead poachers bodies might also hammer home the message.

How about we skin them, mount their heads on plaques and sell their hides. Sounds like poetic justice to me.

Don't forget the Penus ,this is an extremely valuable part of the anatomy , Actually its laughable ,no one bats an Eye if a guy gets hung in Iran, Malaysia ,or Singapore for dealing in Heroin ,I have seen first hand what this vile substance does to people and how many die of injecting it "cut" with all sorts of crap ,and also the crimes people commit so they can purchase it ,the dealers in both endangered wildlife and Drugs know in no uncertain terms what they are getting into and the risks they take ,so please ,with respect lets have less of the hand wringing for these low lifes
