On balance most, if not all, cars don't excite me. I could get fired up about a GR Yaris but don't feel justified to front up the 2.5+ million for one. Must be a thing because it is a 3cyl. just like Celerio.

OK but it is horses for courses. If all one needs is a car for local transport then a Celerio is adequate. Agreed you don't look like a celebrity getting out of one but I have reached a level of maturity where that doesn't matter to me. My local Suzuki dealer has moved to the next city so that may matter to SWMBO but I doubt it would. As for hills, the Celerio doesn't have to pull all those batteries uphill our pets are like dogs but smaller. I think the base model is around 399,000 at last look with top-of-the-line about 425,000. There again some people chose to do without a car altogether.

I had USD accounts with HSBC both in Indonesia and here in Thailand Ok the first part I agree with but if you go into the branch to transfer any foreign currency out, the first form they give you to sign is a withdrawal exchange to Baht and then they do the repatriation you wish in Baht using a separate form. So if you are repatriating those funds to another foreign currency account they will be exchanged from Baht into that currency. You don't have to google it just go to the branch and try it.

is there any advantage to opening a separate account with HSBC in IOM? They could easily convert that to an offshore account if residency is called into question.

I am thick so don't understand the question. All banking in Thailand is done in Baht. So whatever you do it will end up in Baht. Some will claim they have a US dollar account in a Thai bank, but may not have tried to transfer dollars out. They get immediately changed to Thai baht and then get transferred.

It happens a lot. Happened to a mate of mine recently. Go to the nearest police station and report the loss. (Procedural). They may not even be interested but it is procedural. Then upon return home go to your local DLT and apply for a new plate. Which will probably require an inspection at a vehicle inspection station as you are changing provinces.

Most visa fees and conditions between countries are reciprocal. So recent Thai increases are probably a tit-for-tat reaction. 🤔

Cannot answer for you as I do not know what you like. I think I am OK where I am but it is a bit quiet. Because it is quiet we don't want too many people making it noisy. There is only one condo building here that I know of. To paraphrase:
