  1. The vacumn tap operates exactly as it is described, ie, when there is a vacumn from the inlet side of the engine, [could be carb or manifold] this opens the fuel suply in the tap via a tube, now, when the tap diaphramgh is holed, it allows fuel down the vacumn pipe, thus either filling up the airbox/carb or engine, in the ops case, it drained away, or did it? definitly check the engine oil level and also sniff it for traces of fuel,

  2. Oz, if by the link you provided is correct, then you have a vacumn or pressure fuel tap, which means that the fuel is automatically stopped when the engine is off, which of course means no fuel to the carb, these kind of taps dont have an off position, just, main, reserve and prime, if there is a problem in the tap, eg, diapramh, debris stopping the seating of the off valve, fuel will continue to flow,

Although other posters here insist its a sticky float or needle valve for the float, or a punctured float, and you have proved that you have already checked these, im sure you would have noticed if the float was full of fuel, or cracked or the rubber was missing or mis-shapen on top of the float needle closing valve, Good Luck..

  3. He was competing in the Las Vegas race as part of a promotion for non-regular drivers to race for a $US5million prize. He started from the rear of the field as part of that promotion.

Isnt that a bit like putting Vettel,Webber,Hamilton,Button, Alonso,Massa, and all the other real quick blokes at the back of a F1 grid?at least the F1 drivers are regular drivers, not like in the LA race,

I hope other drivers can see the folly of these kind of crackpot races, RIP Dan, sorry for family..

  4. OP, also consider that if thats what there wash does to you ignition lock, what is it doing to other parts of your bike, it gets into switch gear, wheel bearings, transmission housings via breathers, cables and electrical connecters, steering head bearings ect, to be honest, dont use that place anymore if you want to preserve your bike,

Chemicals to a Thai mean right amout is ok, but more is better!!

  5. Great story and pics, unless the riders criss-crossed Austria,Bavaria,Switzerland, many times, the destinations on the the pics dont make much sense,

The alps and Austria,Yugoslavia [as was] Bavaria, North Italy [dolomites] Switzerland has been a biking holiday destination for me since 1976, and managed every year till 2001,

  6. Replacing the condenser, the fella is on the right track, now ask him to check the small earth lead between the stator plate and the distibutor body,

The stator plate is the part in the distributor where the points and condenser are mounted on, and because it "floats" it needs an earth lead, the condenser will act on its behalf till it it gets hot and breaks down, if you want to try this, when it starts to play-up, pull over, have a sleep or something for 15 mins, then try again, should be ok till it gets hot again,

The smell is probaly un-burnt fuel because of mis-firing ect, also if the contact breaker points have a blue colour at the contact, this also points to a faulty condenser or poor earth lead in the distibutor,

ClaireQ, you op clearly states that after a new condenser was fitted, it went a lot further trouble free than before, so perhaps the posters who said it is a fuel problem would like to explain how they came to this conclusion, intriguing stuff indeed!

  7. A good pin up. +1

Never see it as bad as this before around Sukhothai, the Highway between Tak and Phitsanulok is closed to cars trucks can get through as long as there bigged wheeled.

West side of New Sukhothai you can park in Big ' C ' get on a lorry that goes so far and it's then onto a whopper of a Army lorry to get into town great fun the kids loved it.

The worse thing is the pot holes you can spot some of them by the way the water is reacting but still not knowing how deep they are.

Shame for the people needing to get to work but for me I'm not venturing out again until things clear up a bit. :burp:

    Good idea Manuel. :)

You read my other post answer then.   strange post that.

I can see this pinned topic will be welcomed throughtout the dry season too, I would think most of the posts there are out of date already, 3 years ago, the road from Namson to Ban Phue was flooded, not so this year, but it could be tomorrow? anybody know this, or have a crystal ball to help? but of course this is a wonderful pinned topic, its so much better than what i suggested to our illuustriors leader, and that was that posters who needed help with there problem rides, is to post as muych info as possible, IE,make model, auto, manual, 4wd 2wd diesel petrol, i think you will all agree that different makes have different problems, and some of us will know this, so whoes for a pinned topic of something like HELP US TO HELP YOU, give us details, thanks,,

  8. Had a chat with thai friends last night, they were saying there rubber trees are now 7 yrs old and ready, 40rai, it has cost them 100k a year to get to the cutting stage, and they want cutters to live on the farm, they found 3 families [Lao i think] who are willing, and they want to provide housing and all the normal family comforts for them, which includes running electric along 4ks of lane and sattellite tv, toilets ect, they think this will cost them about 150k bht, and the usual 60/40 split, im thinking, when are they going to start making a profit from the rubber? anybody got a spreadsheet or an idea on this, Thanks, Lickey..

  9. Culicine, asuming its a good quality battery, about 45amph and 350amp cranking power is about right for your Honda, and the charging system proves to be ok, then it could be a sticky starter solenoid, but i doubht it., 18months to 2 years is an "old" battery here..

I would have liked to have seen the garage check the wheel bearings, this is how i check wheel bearings, front wheel drive, jack up wheel, kick the wheel a few times to knock the pads back of the disc, hold wheel top and bottom check for play, but most importantly, turn the wheel with the other hand placed on the stub axle or suspension arm, if the bearing is a problem, you will feel a regular vibration, it does take a lot of experience to diferentiate bearing noise and drive shaft UJs though, Non driven wheels are easier, kick to get the pads back, spin the wheel as hard as poss, listen and feel again for vibes on the nearest fixed part to the wheel center.

Just to save looking for an old thread, and i knw TA reads all the posts here, concerning changing auto trans fluid, without to much bother, drain whats in the box, leave as long as possible, at least 24/48 hours, then drain again, the tourque coverter oil will have run back into the box, agreed, only half, but you will have changed at least 2.3rds of the oil.

Strange how memories come back after all the years,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  10. Culicine, sorry i forgot to add some more info, it was late when i posted and memory was a little hazy, as Warpy correctly said, he didnt understand the starter delay, very unusual,

But this kinda thing used to happen quite often in the big truck industry, i was on 24hr call out for trucks for many years, and i always got calls on monday mornings for non-starters, the starter would just whizz or engage and do nothing, i would tell them leave it for 20 mins, if it doest start call me again, i didnt get many replys,

It seemed like the batteries would go into hibernation over the weekend after doing 3000 odd miles the previous week and needed waking up, of course eventually the batteries would die, but not before the opo got the best out of them,,

So perhaps have your battery checked for a dead cell, gassing ect, ,,,

  11. I love artichokes, they were always part of our winter food in the UK, unless they are imported i doubht they will grow here, well, perhaps north of Chang Rai in winter, i would think they are not to everybodies likeing because of the gaseous effects,

2 weeks ago i found frozen brussell sprouts in Udon Makro, they are really good, i was suprised, lets hope artichokes will come soon..

  12. Out of my numerous "rides" Kawasaki ZZR1100 is the best,

Seems like this post is about cars,, So my favorite car was a Vauxhall Cresta, 1958 epic series, very smooth 2.2 6cyl, 3 speed colunm change, bench front seat, a very basic car, but very reliable and roomy, the roomy bit being based on a yank tank i suppose..

Worst, well, i always wanted an 1800 Marina auto, when i got one i couldnt get rid of it, some nights i would leave on the road with the keys in and interior light on, eventually it was nicked, but the next night it reappeared, no fuel and loads of dents, so i scrapped it..
