Well I tested a few today at the mall Ramkamhaeng. Tried a VCD on a 32 inch LCD Panasonic and it looked fine to me, when I got up close I could see where the pixels were a bit bigger on the screen but the overall improved colours, contrast, wide -screen etc more than made up for it. Grabbed a few brochures and right now Im deciding between a Samsung 32 inch and a Jvc both are reasonably priced in the 20-25k range...

I've heard that Phi Phi can be quite busy but I promised the gf we would go there and she will sulk like an eight year old if I dont take her.

If UBC and vcds look the same on my new HD as they do on my current tv then that is fine, my main reason for buying is to have HD games on my 360 and a larger, widescreen tv if DVDs look a bit better than I will take that as a bonus. My gf will FREAK if I go and splash out on a new tv and then she cant watch her lacorn shows on channel 3 or whatever and star movies looks crap....

Ok, price is a factor for me (the Samsungs are about 20k which I think is quite reasonable) but also space, I think 32 inches is enough for my apartment.

No idea what an upscaling DVD player is...if I use a HDMI cable from my regular DVD player to the HD TV will that look better then normal?

My current TV is 21 inches, so UBC is going to look worse on a brand new HD 32 inch??!!!??

I'm planning on getting a HDTV, I did a bit of research and read the previous posts in this forum but I'm still confused about what kind of quality I can expect.

Here is what I want to get from a HDTV:

1/ HD visuals on my Xbox 360 games

2/ A better picture on my standard DVD's (not HD or blu rays)

I tend to watch Vcds (rent them) and UBC (not my memebership, comes with apartment) and if they look the same (as my old tv, a 21 inch Sony triniton) then I can accept that but I read that UBC and vcds sometimes look worse. Does this depend on the size of the tv?

How will they look? I believe that they are 720p, I know that this is not 'true' HD (thats 1080p right?) but I've seen an Xbox 360 running on one of these tvs and it looked amazing...

Im planning on going to Phi Phi and was planning on taking the 10.40 am flight to Krabi that arrives at 12pm (Air Asia) and then go to the pier and take the ferry at 2.30 pm to Phi Phi. My gf says that we should fly to Phuket as Krabi airport is far from the Krabi pier. I just had a look at a map of Phuket and the airport is on the north side of the island but the pier to Phi Phi is right at the other end in the south east. So which is closest to its respective pier?

Has anybody taken this flight to Krabi and then made it to the pier ok?

Yes, she wants me to go with but: 1) This would be almost impossible due to my work and further education commitments 2) I don't want to go cos the last thing I heard about Burma was the riots and shootings!

I know nothing about travel to Burma, I thought that it wasnt that easy, visas were hard to get and some places were not open to foreigners. My gf hardly speaks English and doesn't have a passport making things even more difficult.

The reason I posted was that she said many Thai people go there to pray, so I was wondering if there is some kind of Buddhist group tour she could go with?

So my gf just asked me if it's expensive to go there, she says she wants to go pray at some temples there (she is very Buddhist and prays most nights) because she is having 'bad luck' this year. She says that many Thai people do this.

If its PS3 then it will have to be original as PS3 games havent been cracked yet and as far as I know origninal games here cost the same as they do eleswhere, in fact they sometimes cost more...might be better off getting it in Oz.

I was just wiping down my laptop keyboard when the 'm' button came off.....yes I know Im typing m now but the actual plastic key/tab is off and Im pressing the soft pad thing below.....tried to put the tab back on but its totally impossible you would need tiny hands to do it and I cant seem to click it all in place wiht out putting strain on the parts and Im terrified of snapping something.

Any advice?

I have tried them both in my brand new laptop with the same results.

If they have been eroded then surely they wouldnt work at all? The second discs installs ok and runs fine it just gives an in game error message (not a windows error) when i try to create a new profile.

How do I do that? I have ripped music before (with Windows Media player) but never software...

I have 2 PC CD games that have both stopped working for no reason, one is an original another is a 'local' copy:

Original - Far Cry - Had this game for several years, pulled it out a few weeks ago and re-installed it. Installation went ok but when I put disc 1 back in to run the game it kept giving an error message saying to 'insert disc 1'

Local copy - Championship Manager 01/02 - Same again, had this game for years played it loads, tried to install it again 6 months ago. Installed ok, but when I run the game and I try to start a new profile it says 'Not enough hard drive space to start anew game' this is when I have around 20 Gig free!! Ok so I just tried it the other day on my NEW laptop...same again!

How can this happen? Has some kind of bug been burnt/written onto the disk somehow??

Yeah, basically I wanna get a new xbox 360 and Im thinking of getting a friend to bring me a PAL one from the uk, I can then order second hand PAL games from Ebay.co.uk cos you can usually pick games up quite cheap like a month after their release. I suppose if they're coming from personal sellers then they will look like gifts...

Whats this 'declaration' all about and where does it go? Like I said before Ive had 2 packages from my folks before, each of them just sent in normal padded envelopes with my address and their return address on the front.

I want to start using Ebay to buy second hand dvds, software and games. I will have to get them from US/UK sellers as there doesn't seem to be much of a second hand market in Thailand. But what about this 30% import tax that I have heard people talking about? I have had 2 parcels sent from my family in the uk before (each time they had books, dvds etc) and never had any tax problems...what is the official line on this tax and is there a way to avoid it?
