  1. 'the deputy director-general of the DLT, said the department had informed taxi drivers that they must not exploit their passengers by illegally adjusting their meters for higher fare rates'. This announcement was made last week by 'The Department of Land Transport (DLT)', so there must be a national law which as ever is ignored by the BIB unless they stand to gain.
  2. Good point.
  3. I must be psychic! Most Thais would not last a week in a European job; exhaustion would set in. My company hired a security guard for night duty who turned up for 'work' first time with his own duvet & pillow. When it was pointed out he would not be paid to sleep, he quit immediately!
  4. But the fines are inflicted by the police (except in Pattaya!)
  5. Under the banner 'National News'. Did you miss that? Has Pattaya declared UDI & is not now part of the Thai Nation?
  6. I think there is a police hot-line in Bangkok where disgruntled passengers can report this offence; periodically some of the fraudsters are fined 1000 baht.
  7. Isn't 'Immigration' a singular noun for a collective institution? If so 'Immigration is' seems correct?
  8. Son-i-l came visiting. He is a fruit nut-case. He couldn't believe the astronomical prices asked here in comparison to the 'expensive' UK.
  9. At the badly labelled 'International Airport' of U-tapao- the ground staff carefully had the passengers queue in two separate lines in numerical order then everyone boarded the bus to the plane and got mixed up.
  10. Did mine on line. One minute.
  11. 'struggle to attract quality staff as tourism recovers' - it's not just hotels; it's every walk of life. Mai ben rai is the motto of all employees except imported labour who have a better work ethic AND better English.
  12. The article went wrong at the 2nd sentence. How many tourists in Pattaya have have been protected against taxi drivers not using meters in the last TEN YEARS?
  13. Ebola; cancer; now dementia. Thailand, the hub of miracle cures.
  14. I was a tourist for 8 days in Samui. I was fleeced every day by the taxi mafia even the cars with the taximeter logo on them had NO meters. On my last night I was shortchanged of 500 baht despite my family seeing how much money I tendered and how much I was given back. A telephone call to the police proved fruitless. So I agree - increased numbers of tourists = more opportunities to return Thailand's corruption standing to the bottom of the heap.
  15. Isn't that reserved for the roads where Thai drivers avoid taking responsibility for the casualties?
  16. Used one once. Non-descript and expensive meal followed by being press-ganged into extra booze whilst the boat to take you back to shore was hesitant about getting wet.
  17. BP has a story today saying some of the cops have confessed. A committee is meeting to discuss IF they should be dismissed! It seems RTP have the same points system that road-users have: you get THREE get-out-of-jail cards per annum!
  18. Visit the elephant shows and tiger parks. You'd be surprised at the training AND at what happens to the tigers when they've outlived their usefulness.
  19. They are sited at crossroads/junctions designed to obscure your vision of oncoming traffic. They should be made illegal by all politicians AND their convoys of slow-moving speaker vans slowing other traffic (including ambulances) and causing evermore pollution. And what happens to the plastic afterwards?
  20. There are no ethics here; why doesn't he just go for a criminal prosecution?
  21. The Hi-So elite speculate to accumulate. They will get more than their investment back when fatso is in charge.
  22. They don't have any; politicians switch parties according to how much they can filch. Prayuth doesn't need to debate anything; he has more tanks than any of the others.
  23. More of everything. When it was still a legal requirement, he published bank details that showed his deposits amounted to five million every year for five years despite being paid (officially) less than a million per annum.
  24. Won't the RTP have to get permission from China to go to Taiwan?
