  1. Links like this are the way of the future.

However with the speed of the Internet in Thailand it will be along time before they are viable.

Having looked, the material looks like it may be copyright and therefore illegal.

I noticed that several of the links do not work......

For real material it will have to be a pay service, just like UBC. :o

The speed of the internet is improving, and some of the links are really good.

Something for nothing!! so i am not complaining

  2. We need to start a petetion to get it back!

1,000 baht notes would most likely be more effective ......

    Slowly!

All we know is that the editor has died and that they have to find a new thai editor.

Dont mention any rumors, thats not fair after all.

i was told by someone that worked their that a new Thai Editor had been found, but the emotion was not there for the newspaper

Lets hope it comes back, also maybe some one could suggest to get it over to Koh Pha Ngan.

With regards to pre - paid adds, thats a good point, anyone here have a pre-paid add that could in put on when and if the paper is coming back?

  3. As the topic title states, the Community newspaper isn't out this month and from what i have heard from them it might never come back, Please note a previos post stated it was as they where looking for an editor, not true as they already recruited a new one

One of the reason i here, is they feel the island isnt interested in the paper any more

NOT TRUE ME THINKS, as it is the only real english newspaper on the Island

Sorry Samui Express i read your paper for Humour only, not real news.

We need to start a petetion to get it back!

    Thanks

  4. great idea but you must know any money passed to the thais's will get lost in corruption etc. for me the best way is sell whatever you have get the cash and give directly to whom you see as a worthy charity. most of the tsunami donations got lost and did not make it to the victims. always remember they do not think the way we do

    very true

  5. My juvenille Cocker Spaniels, decided to have it off. I am now the proud gardian of 7 young ones.I don't want to sell them, I wil give them away to people who will take good care of them.

They will be ready in 2 weeks,so if anyone is interested please PM me.

They are free ( normally Bht 3,500 to 5,000 ),they should have had their first injections by then.

    Will post pics soon.

    PS They don't like cats.

    Hi Roo

I will take one, PM me, but i do have 2 cats, but you state they do not like cats, is that all the dogs?

    Thanks

  6. Cheers Boater,

I got the impression from the crowd I got the card from that they didn't know exactly what we were after. Do you have a website or other details for the Zoom shop? And can they change our existing card or do we need a new one?

    Thanks

    hi

It all depends on what network you are on, with regards to Zoom, it is on the ring road between lamai and chewang very close to buddy. Big Shop, cant miss it, or any other mobile shop really on the island should be able to help ypu.

  7. Hi there,

not sure whether this should be here or in the technology section, but its a technology related question that i'm needing to buy a solution for in Samui.

We're here for a few months so bought a local sim card for our GSM phone from MBK, but as it turns out, although local txting/smsing and phone calls are cheap, SMS charges overseas are horrendously expensive (20 baht each), plus we get bombarded with what look to be 50 advertisements a day via SMS.

I'm assuming we've bought the wrong sort of card, subsidised with advertising for cheap local calls. So does anyone know a cheaper solution to SMS overseas, and if so, where do I buy a simcard for it in Samui and what should I be asking for?

    Many thanks

    Hi

You can purchase sim cards from any of the 1 million phone dhops on samui, they are a fxed price as well of 199 THB, so be careful they do not rip you off, also 7-11 sometimes sell them if they are in stock.

But the best bet is to get from Mobile phone shop with good english speaking staff, Zoom near buddy is a good example. Make sure they put you on the correct tariff, when i had pre-paid with Ais a while ago (on monthly statement now) i was on a special package where i got international sms for 5 THB. But like i said make sure they activated you card to english and then you wont get bombareded with messages, plus all the options via customer service for tariff changes ect will be also in english

    Hope this helps

  8. Hi

I know if i was to import a car i would have to pay import tax, sometime 5 times the value of the actual car.

Know if i imorted a kit car into thailand, do i have to pay such tax, as in the uk kit cars are classfied differently by the engine? not the make?

    Can anyone advise on this

    Thanks

  9. by the way, thanks bambina. i'm going to make a little business card sized paper with all those numbers on it.

    cheers

I believe the 191 emergency number is correct in all provinces. The tourist police number is 1155.

I have both in my mobile phone book.

I have had an emergency twice now, where i have tried to ring those numbers, but nobody ever picks the lines up!

  10. Hi , i want to aquire a national number in Thailand, i see they have them, but i am not sure where you purchase them from and the costs involved, as i wish to have a number for a company that does not specifiy what region you are in.

    Thanks in advance

  11. Koh Samui Hospital (government run) have the blood stores on the island, the other hospitals order it from there. You can leave your contact details with the blood unit in case they need you, and also give blood there when needed.

quick question, how do you find out what your blood group is? As i have no idea what mine is and i might have the right type

  12. can anyone add to,confirm or deny the rumour that the bars in the area of the lady boxing are to be demolited and the boxing to be located at the end of the newly started walking street ?

It has been rumoured for some time that the boxing bars would be demolished and developed with the land behind so this may be correct but the area at the end of the walking street seems too small to take the boxing on .

It is true, they are to be demolited, with regards to the new bars at walking street, this is a new area of bars and not for the boxing. Boxing bars at to be moved further back.

  13. I wrote to the seller and asked him about this issue. This is his response:

You do not need to attend any seminar or meeting to stay in View Talay. If someone asks you to attend, please say no as this is not part of our deal with the resort.

    I just hope I don't have to attend seminar/meeting. I got 1 bedroom apartment, not a villa.

Any idea about Alangkarn show? Is it a good show? Hope it is not a lady boy show.

Hi, unfortunalty this is a well documented timeshare scam, it is known as a 'Fly-by'. You get the accomodation 'FREE' but this guy has just sold it to you.

You must attend the presentation, or you will be in for a nasty surprise if you dont, as the hotel will charge normal rack rates onto your credit card you use as a depoist in the hotel before checking in. Also please view the small print about MUST eat in the restaurent ECT ECT.

The reason behind this is when you are in the Hotel staying there your guard is let down, it is a beautiful resort, which you would only dream of staying in every year, then boom, a sales man gets you! and believe me they are good at there jobs, 1 in 4 people who stay on these 'Fly-bys' actually end up purchasing a timeshare!

Have you got a copy of this certificate? and what company issued it?

Maybe the best bet is to either find new accomodation if you do not want to be hounded and ask for a refund. Or just sit back and look into space for the 2 hour presentation, once they see you are on to them and are not interested in buying, they will back off/

  14. Can anyone recommend any good cheap Travel agents in Pattaya for flights back to the UK? Ill be returning to the UK for 2 weeks in July and not sure which travel agents to check out. If anyone knows a good, cheap travel agent, Please let me know.. Thanks :o

I found a very good comapny yesterday, oasis Hong Kong aitlines, they do a flight to the UK for 129 Pound!!! only down point is you have to fly to hong kong first, but the savings are there!!

  15. Not about schools but While I have your ear. Can you do some ivestigative reporting and find out why 60 % of samui sreet lights don't work or are not switched on. You can link the story to ever increasing monthly road death figures. :o I know , sorry

Also on top of that, why are they digging up random spots of road that didnt have pot holes in Lamai, and relaying them again with that absolute rubbish contrete and wiring techique they love to use, and leaving the sections of the roads with massive pot holes the Same???? Again sorry off topic! Maybe Smaui express should strart there own thread of investigations that need reporting on Koh Samui, just like those stupid drains they put everywhere which are now broken and cause a hugh hazard to the roads!

  16. Ok, sorry evadgib, I'll shut up!

Any offence was unintentional. Some problems encountered locally inc:

    i) Legal documents (from UK) taking 2 months to arrive.

ii) An important letter dated 10 Nov arriving on Xmas eve.

iii) My phone being cut off because i haven't paid the (unreceived) bill!

I have traced several items (from both directions) but cannot establish where the fault lies. The purpose of my original post was to establish the extent of the problem within Samui archapeligao.....

I always find it takes 3-4 days to get to Bangkok then 10-15 days to get from Bangkok to Samui

Also i have had many items sent which i have never recieved, so only get sent registered post from UK. Also you have to bear in mind the Postman on Koh Samui are a very lazy bunch, they will just leave your mail on the floor outside you house/work, even if you have a postbox!!!! Now with this a lot of the post gets blown away or soaked via the rain or even pinched. But if registered they actually wait for you or knock on the door to get the letter/parcel signed
