  1. War on drugs to start on April 2

BANGKOK: -- The government will launch its war on drug on April 2 and mobilise all units to crack down on illicit drugs for 90 days, Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobamrun said on Wednesday.

Chalerm said he was aware of a difficult fight ahead but expected cut down the trafficking. He called for strict law enforcement without heeding the concern of human right advocates.

    -- The Nation 2008-03-26

He called for strict law enforcement without heeding the concern of human right advocates.

So the BIB will be acting as Judge and Jury again :o

How many will be shot on the spot this time ...........

  2. Do NOT purchase computer equipment from Lotus whatever you do. They repackage and resell seconds from the factories and when something goes wrong with your gear - it stays wrong. They have NO support whatsoever and have NO idea what they are doing or selling.

HOWEVER, Rawadee at IT Complex! That is correct, they will be here next year, they will support you very well.

Always purchase local or when things go wrong you will be having a trip up to Bangkok.

Besides, support local business, it is good for you.

Alway, only ever purchase computer equipment from shops who have been there for a while and appear to be hanging around, too many computer shops are open then closed a few months later and again, big problem with the support that you WILL be needing.

Birth, tax, death and computer problems are the four universal priniciples you can count on occuring. All else is illusory.

    cheers and good luck.

southbot, where did you get this information

Do NOT purchase computer equipment from Lotus whatever you do. They repackage and resell seconds from the factories and when something goes wrong with your gear - it stays wrong. They have NO support whatsoever and have NO idea what they are doing or selling

When i bought my laptop, it was Brand Spanking New... no seconds or anything like you mentioned.... apart from that a large multi national comapny would not con customers this way!... i actually have a friend that works for tesco's who can verify this

But as mentioned by you, i am all for supporting local buinesses, but there prices seem to be marked up slightly againest the larger department stores...

  3. The availabilety of CD titles in Phuket is not an issue at all, since any CD can easily be purchased online and shipped right to your front door.

This could be an issue for 2 reasons

    1) to order on-line you need a credit card - ( most Thai's do not own a credit card.... )

    2) to order the latest cd with all the relevent dance music online is 40$!!! thats 2 days wages for the DJ!

    3) This is Thailand, Thai's will not pay 40$ for for something they can pay 4$ for ......

    Solution? ............

  4. Post changed to English in order to keep the mods calm. :D

Please note that this invitation is for Scandinavian entrepreneurs and company owners that operate in and around Phuket only.

The Swedish magazine Phuket Gajden will hold a traditional Viking celebration with a smörgåsbord of stunning Swedish food and drinks. Besides meatballs (of course!) we will serve a multitude of fine food from restaurants such as Harry's, 2Gether Guesthouse & Restaurant, Sandy's Corner, Green Mango and more. The Swedish Consul as well as the Superintendent at Phuket Immigration will attend the party.

Why? This will be a great opportunity to meet up with Scandinavian entrepreneurs in Phuket. All Scandinavian business owners are invited to join the top "minglers" of all nationalities – foreign and Thai.

    Details:

Place: Scandinavian Lagoon Resort in Chalong.

    Date: Saturday, March 29, 2008

Time: 6:30 pm onwards (the free bar closes at 8.30 pm, but we might invade the bar and force it to stay open longer. We're Vikings, after all.)

Bring: Your name card/credit card/passport/driver's licence/police record to enter in the lucky draw.

    R.S.V.P.

We need you to reply to this message or send an email to [email protected] with the names of the people attending (be reasonable – don't bring ALL the relatives from Isarn). The free bar is limited to 150 people, so your reply will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis. As the poet nearly said, he/she who hesitates is thirsty.

Please reply before Wednesday 26th March. Remember, if you are not on the guest list you will not be able to join.

you cannot post an event offering a FREE BAR and not invite us Brits :o:D:D:D

Oh well we know the location... i feel fancy dress coming on and a sweedish accent.... i shall also dig out my socks and sandels to blend in like a pro :D:DB)

  5. In the very early hours of Monday morning special officers charged with enforcing Copyright Laws raided Tony’s Discotheque on Walking Street and allegedly discovered 259 copy CD’s.

The officers arrested the DJ and impounded a DVD player and amplifier and took him and the alleged evidence to the Soi 9 station. Not long afterwards a musician came to the station and allegedly asked officers to give the DJ a special deal, but police refused to do anything other than what was required by law.

According to press reports the case will now go forward to be decided in a court of law.

    http://www.pattayacitynews.net/news_24_03_51_3.html

As you can see in the above news clipping, they are now arresting DJ's for using Fake CD's

Now the reason for the topic and why it is in the Phuket Forum is the following

    1) As i am aware ALL the DJ's in Phuket use Fake CD's, will the BIB start this crusade here you think?

    2) It is all well arresting them for fake CD's, But where the hel_l do you buy real CD's in Phuket? I have seen 7-11 and tesco's ect sell CD's, but they are either all thai, or very old dance music? where can you buy the lastest music?

I hope they do not start this here in Phuket, as it would yet again damage tourism!

  6. I think this may be the guy who hit the metal post after he lost control going around the corner while speeding through Ban Tai Village last week, unless someone else has heard of another recent death by motorbike accident on Koh Phangan?

Yes his name was Stephen, from Scotland, and he was drunk after the Half Moon party, from what I have heard. He had been staying for awhile on Thong Nai Pan Yai.

Lets hope the Insurance company doesn't read this post! he lost control going around the corner while speeding through Ban Tai and he was drunk after the Half Moon party.

This is yet another sad case, but should be highlighted as a deterrant to others who decide to drink and drive.......

  7. This is very typical Thai behavour, blame someone else!!!

As suggested above, this is a load of rubbish, and if a UK or US police mentioned it was the victims fault they would be sacked! dont the police here a press office to screen and advise before these idiots quote in newspapers?

Could you imagine for example a black youth in the UK getting murdered in London, and the chief of police quoting that it was the VICTIMS fault for being black and you cannot blame the attacker ect ect ect... well it just wouldnt happen!

You need to solve the problems from the route!, alot of the cheif of police here and tourist stations really need outside training.... they need to be taught proper police work ect.......

  8. uhhh speed & drugs??? and you know this because???? Maybe they hit a pot hole, blew a tire, a wasp flew in and scared the driver.... the list of possibilities is endless. How about we await the cause of the incident? For all you know, they were rushing for the sale on chicken thighs and swerved to miss someone. Jeez.

    Agreed

This is probably a very tragic accident, please refine from starting rumours untill the official cause of the accident can be found.

  9. Shock over tourist murders

Government moving quickly to restore confidence in country's biggest business

    By Post reporters

The government is rushing to shore up the confidence of tourists shaken by the latest killings of holidaymakers, which could affect the industry which generates the largest amount of foreign exchange in Thailand. Thailand's reputation as a safe destination for tourists suffered another setback with the March 15 murder of Swedish tourist Hannah Charlotte Bankluns, 27, who was stabbed to death while sunbathing in Phuket.

Yesterday an Indian tourist, Chetn Dadhwal, 24, was also stabbed to death as he tried to break up a fight during the Full Moon party on Rin beach at Koh Phangan in Surat Thani.

    Continued here http://bangkokpost.com/News/23Mar2008_news01.php

    read this article...highly recommended...HILARIOUS!!! :o

I am not sure if you can call murder hilarious.... but maybe you where refering to the ' wistles ' or the near banning of females wearing bikinis?

Maybe you could re phrase from Hilarious to complete police stupidity ?

  10. I heard some thai's got into a scrap invloving about 30 people and a forang was serioisly hosialised.

There are so many fights there, it is difficult to keep up :o

But not heard of this one.... unless the Thais where fighting ( happens often ) and a ferang ( always drunk ) steps into to attempt to break it up and ends up worst for wear...

But on the subject.. If you ever see Thai's fighting, LEAVE THEM TO IT... i have seen to many ferang always try to get involved and it never solves anything...

    Peace

  11. This guy is putting a development on public land?

How does sombody aquire public land?

Isn't there property registration, land surveys, design reviews and building inspections?

This is a good point, he did having planning permission and buliding permit for the development which you need to get via the goverment agency.... and you must have the correct land titles... unless you can pay alot of Tea Money :o

I would still like to know if they will be arresting the lawyers? as they seem to play a major part in this... also the goverment officer/'s who issued him all the permits on the land to build, or to mention the local village head man who knew it was goverment land but chose to turn a blind eye with a couple off 100,000 THB put into his pocket... the list is endless...

As they say, never smoke without fire!!!!

  12. Is there a self service car wash in Phuket? I would like to wash my car myself, but with the use of the proper car cleaning equipment

Similar to what they have at every petrol station in the UK...

And yes i do know it only costs 200-300 THB to get someone to clean it, but it is the hassle of having to wait 2-3 hours for your car to be cleaned... Plus i do actually like to wash my car...

    Thanks

  13. Update:

    Murderer of Swedish tourist arrested

PHUKET: -- Thai police have captured the man responsible for the brutal murder of a Swedish tourist on the resort town of Phuket on Sunday night.

Authorities identified the man as Akradej Pianjay, 32, a fisherman who had moored his boat around Chatchai pier on the day of the murder. He has confessed to the crime and affirmed that he had acted alone.

The arrest was made based on eyewitness accounts and evidence linking the man to the case such as scratches seen on his body - a sign of struggle which points to his victim desperately trying to fight him off.

His arrest comes two days after 27-year-old Swedish tourist Charotta Hanna was found dead on Mai Khao beach with several stab wounds to her body.

    -- Bangkok Post 2008-03-18

I hope they found the right guy. I'd love to see some more news about DNA, or something solidly linking this man to the murder.

There have been a lot of posts about "these crimes happen all over the world", I for one know that when I hear about a murder in England, or America, I don't feel as alarmed as when I do here. For those tourists shot in PAI, and I believe his name was "Dale Henry?" Killed up near Ranong by his wife's hired killer, and this crime, in thailand as a foriegner, it just seems more like an Us---Them type of conflict. Whereas news from my home coutries, I just feel sympathy for the victim, here I feel wary and unrest along with sympathy.

What do you guys think? Anyone share the same feelings?

Authorities identified the man as Akradej Pianjay, 32, a fisherman

He has confessed to the crime

This arrest brings up alot of memories of the murder a few years back in Koh Samui, where a young welsh girl ( correct me if i am wrong ) called catherine was raped and murdered.

Again with this case, a fisherman was arrested for the crime and confessed the next day after being arrested..... and again this happened after a high profile goverment figure visted the site.

The suspect was found guilty in court and sentanced to Death..... but guess what he is still alive, and i have heard he is actually free as they had the wrong man....

Could this be the case again here?????? High profile figure comes to Phuket so the police arrest the Fisherman? easy target for them? - also to get a confession in 1 day??? - all does not seem right here?

Any one else view the same.....

  14. “I told him to get treatment at a hospital for the wound to his arm, which appeared to have been scratched or grazed. He was too drunk to make a statement. However, he never came back to make a report or file a complaint. In fact, I’m not even sure whether he went to a hospital,” he said.

IF you walked into a police station in any other country... and was shot.... let alone drunk and admiting you had been driving... you would be arrested straight away for Drink Driving??? it is a self confession????...... then the police doctor would take care....

I am no police man , and never have been .... but what would the normal procedure be in another country if this happen???

I think this has to be a low to show the IQ of some of the BIB in Thailand.....
