Ranong prepares for 'super high tide' from 'Super Moon'

The "Full Moon" phenomenon will find the moon directly opposite the earth from the sun. The moon will be 16 per cent brighter as it approaches its closest distance to earth and will also be the year's largest.

Ranong people living near the sea have previously experienced the high tide, which caused flooding.

Payom Kaewdaeng, a villager of Muang district said that many residents have already packed their items out of fear that the phenomenon would cause inundation of their areas.

"We had bad experience with flooding caused by the full moon before. Now it is Super Moon, which could possibly result in a higher tide," he said.

However, he said his friends and neighbours were not nervous, as they had experienced a "super moon" before. They nonetheless expected the provincial authorities to be on the alert and ready to help people in case of emergency.

  2. Koh Samui could be about to get a second airport to rival the existing privately run airport already there.

The Thai Transport Ministry plans to build a state run airport to help increase tourist numbers and end the monopoly on the island.

The existing airport cannot be expanded due its close proximity to residential areas and an increase in tourist numbers is putting a strain on the airport according to Homes Go Fast.

A second airport on the island would provide a boost to the property market claims Nick Marr, director of international real estate portal HomesGoFast.com.

“A new airport on Koh Samui would certainly provide a boost to the local property market. Making it easier to reach the island would attract foreign buyers looking for a sound overseas investment” he said.

Samui airport is owned and operated by Bangkok Airways and adheres to strict rules about the number of flights to restrict noise pollution.
