  1. PHUKET: A German businessman on Koh Samui is unconscious in hospital after being badly beaten in his room in the Baan Suan Sook Resort, Chaweng, last Friday (February 10).

Police from Bophut Police Station were called to the resort after Peter Stefan Reichwald, 67, was found seriously injured in his room, apparently beaten over the head with a blunt instrument. He was still conscious but was having trouble breathing or speaking.

In the room police found lying on the bed a loaded .357 revolver, which his wife, who lives in Bangkok, confirmed was his. Some of Mr Reichwald’s valuables, including his iPhone, notebook computer and safe box, were gone. The attacker, however, left behind some gold jewellery belonging to Mr Reichwald.

  2. The three mothers united in grief after their their sons were killed in horrific bus crash during Thailand holiday

After three teenage friends died just days into a dream trip, their mothers discovered the shocking truth about Thailand’s ‘perilous’ record on bus safety. Here they talk to Catherine O’Brien about their campaign for stricter controls and to raise awareness among other young travellers

Amanda Bean was getting ready for work when, from her bedroom window, she saw a police car pull up on the street below. Intrigued, but not initially alarmed, she assumed the officers must be there to see one of her neighbours. A couple of minutes later she looked again and noticed they were still sitting in their car. ‘It was only afterwards I realised why,’ she says. ‘They would have been coordinating with the others to ensure that we were all told at the same time.’

  3. The three bungling Iranian bombers detained in Bangkok after they accidentally set off their explosives cavorted with prostitutes at a beach resort days before the botched attacks.

A photograph has emerged of the trio cosying up to sex workers, surrounded by hookah-pipes and drinks, in a bar in the notoriously sleazy city of Pattaya.

The revelation comes as it emerged police are now hunting for two more suspects, including a possible bomb expert, they think helped the trio as they set about targeting Israeli diplomats.

Before the bombs: Iranian trio Masoud Sedaghat Zadeh, left, who was arrested in Malaysia, Mohammad Khazaei, centre, who was detained at Suvarnabhumi Airport, and Saied Moradi, who was badly injured in the bombings, are pictured drinking with prostitutes

The foiled plan was discovered on Tuesday when explosives in the men's rented house blew up by mistake, forcing them to flee.

Two men, including one who blew off his own leg when he hurled a grenade at police but it bounced back at his feet, were detained in the Thai capital.

A third was captured the following day in Malaysia as he tried to return to Iran.

After flying into the southern city of Phuket on February 8, the men moved to Pattaya, 45 miles southeast of the capital, and stayed there for at least two nights before heading to Bangkok.

Harassment: Consultant haemotologist Dr. Finella Brito-Babapulle outside Southwark Crown Court

A respected consultant haematologist waged a gay smear campaign against her doctor ex-husband after she felt she was cheated out of £430,000 in their bitter divorce.

A court heard that Dr. Finella Brito-Babapulle, 56, suggested his new girlfriend was a Bangkok ladyboy and sneaked notes into her children’s Christmas gifts to the woman, which read: 'Once a gay. Always a gay.'

The mother-of-three, from, Richmond, who was a blood-specialist at Ealing Hospital, was convicted of harassment against her ex Dr. Mark Layton, who is also a consultant haematologist, between September 19, 2010 and March 29 last year.

She lost an appeal at Southwark Crown Court yesterday and was conditionally discharged for two years, served with a five-year restraining order banning her from contacting her ex and his girlfriend and ordered to pay £620 costs.

  5. There's some ridiculous advice in this thread....The reason most tourists choose to pay is that they do not want the hassle of going to court on their holiday.....

right, better extend holidays to, mhm (?) 2 years or longer or fly back for court hearings every time the court requests that.....

Exactly, and that is the reason why most tourists just pay up. But the situation is different if you live here and the threat of making you fly back to attend a court hearing isn't viable. But in all reality if you bothered to contact a lawyer or your insurance company contracted a lawyer, you would see the bogus claim dropped very quickly.

are you serious ? , how long have yu been here?

so , as an example, you knock someone off there bike, after a couple of drinks, they offer you to pay 12 ,000 THB or go to court? , what would you do ? ..... the courts might fine you more, blacklist you , and possible jail term

and if not your fault? , forget it , it always is !

  6. this would have a huge impact on Thailand, most if all money brought in from the eastern bloc is being cleaned !, sold a house once and they paid 30 million THB in 500 Euro notes, bank didnt even ask any questions !,

if they do crack down, you will see alot of these people leave, as well as the Costa Del sol lot whom have made thier home here, as it is so easy to launder money

    ah well
  7. First ferry ( Seatran ) leaves at 5 AM, arrives Dongsak around 6.30 You then have to drive to the airport which is about another hour. Arrive say 7.30 - 7.45 allowing for traffic, you will be leaving it very tight.

You are better off staying the night there, hotels are very reasonable in Surat.

agree there , check this hotel , styed there many times - http://www.agoda.com/asia/thailand/suratthani/diamond_plaza_hotel_suratthani.html

  9. The reaction by the Thai government to this ordeal just seems surreal to me. Is this really happening? Are they really saying this is just a normal crime? That the Iranians were arguing with each other and then started blowing things up? I'm so confused by their statements and I've no doubt that the Thai population that is hearing all this on the news is equally confused.

I just hope that all this confusion they are creating doesn't give more terrorists another opportunity to cause more causalities to innocent people of all races.

No one is blaming the Thias for this but I wish they would stop playing dumb and start acting more responsibly.

The Normal Thai person in the street will simply swallow all the bovine excreta thrown at that them by the "powers to be" ,this is just a normal every day crime and in no way should any future travelers to the kingdom be alarmed .

alot of Thais arnt even aware what has happen !, i just spoke to a friend whom mentioned the thai news stating a crime was committed by some forigner !, amazing !
