  1. Well not really, the Thai would have already paid his tax on the 1 million used to buy the car and the tax 'bands' are the same for everyone. You could say that many of us have been buying cars at a large discount due to not paying tax at all
  2. Isn't it potentially far worse than that? What usually happens when the language in a contract is illegal? The contract is simply null and voided isn't it?
  3. Ah yes, the old Tulip Bubble, lasted a short while once, the prices of these bulbs went through the roof, then crashed and never, ever recovered. There is a slight difference with Bitcoin In the early days Bitcoin went on a massive parabolic rally from literally $0.00 to about $32 depending on who/where you purchased it. Then it crashed back down to 1 cent - now that's where the story for tulips ended as after they crashed they never did recover. The market decides. Bitcoin however went on to reach new highs within a year and in 2013 it first 'topped' out at around $260 before crashing back down to $50, then it did it again but more than $1000 and it kept doing it over many years. The Tulip comparison at this point is completely retarded due to the above.
  4. You would be quite wrong to think that.
  5. I'm not sure what you mean here. I'm doing this already so yes, you could say I take myself seriously. A real 'cheap' apartment in Phnom Penh can be had for a couple of hundred dollars a month, but I wouldn't consider that for myself, it's not suitable for my situation. Mines $700 / month (25k Baht) while here in Phnom Penh, it's a spacious place, about 170 square meters in size (I measured it). 2 bed, 3 bath, just me and the Mrs living in it, decent building in a decent area named 'Toul Prom Pong' aka 'Russian Market'. I use the second bedroom as an office. Total rent = $8400 a year. You could easily spend $1 to $2k a month on rent here, depends on the area, the building and which floor you're on and how much you tolerate getting ripped off. Very easy to do and anyone can simply purchase a 1 year visa (even if you're under 55) for just under $500 through an agent, took me a few days back in May to get the visa and apartment all sorted out while I was here on my first trip this year back in May. I have to say I quite like it down here as well so I may buy a place at some point, who knows.
  6. Two homes, two countries and a 2 week holiday in a third country like Vietnam and you're resident nowhere. No need for two wives, mine comes with me. Rent an apartment in somewhere like Phnom Penh for less than $10k a year Who wouldn't do this if it would save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in potential taxes?
  7. In other news foreign giant Tesla isn't coming to Thailand any more.
  8. There's plenty of room for 'escape', just make sure you don't stay anywhere for more than about 180 days per year.
  9. People have been saying that Disney is evil for many years and it always confused me. This provides some clarity.
  10. If that is what's happened then it means the government has been dissolved which means everyone is out, the new PM will appoint their own cabinet.
  11. A 1 or 2 day overstay can often be sorted out at the local immigration office without the need to leave the country - this is the way it was before anyway but it may vary depending on where you are. A few years back my mother was over here and we forgot to do her extension after her 30 day visa examption, 3 or 4 days of overstay, so we went down to Hua Hin immigration and did the extension and paid the fine at the same time. This was after they introduced the bans. I know they offer this service for people who forget for a short amount of time as I believe it happens a lot. So @Dande you have a couple of days overstay and can fix it at a local immigration office - but that might depend on where you are. Of course if you're somewhere they don't do it you could simply check into a hotel in some other city where they're more friendly and do the extension there......
  12. There's a reason they're getting serious about security and it has nothing to do with protecting you. The bank is going to be liable for any and all fraud unless there's gross negligence on the part of the account holder. So these new steps are to prevent any losses to the bank - it's why they are making it harder to withdraw anything and reluctant to allow large withdrawals, wires, etc Sometimes you really need to persuade them that you want to do a transfer, and they can deny it - for your safety - which is a lie - it's all about protecting their own arses. Legislation changes incoming, it will get worse. Source : Perplexity Pro - so no link.
  13. So something slightly worse might happen in the future, maybe, possibly - but it's not happening right now. Non story fluff piece.
  14. See my post in your other topic - I run 2 screens, the laptop one and a single external one but I could run two if I wanted to - I choose not to though.
  15. I picked up this one a couple of months back : From memory I think it cost about 90k Baht - it's a decent laptop - it's fast, can run anything and everything I want and all at the same time - no problems. You get what you pay for - I highlighted the important bits in green.....
  16. They're sending a very clear message here to the millions of people who use vapes in the UK. If you're an ex smoker who now uses a 'vape' - NEVER come on holiday to Thailand, or you face arrest. This should be widely publicised and there should be a popup warning for anyone booking a flight or package holiday to Thailand.
  17. It's not all about you. I keep some crypto and it's very applicable to me.
  18. You need to stay for 180 days to be considered a tax resident in Thailand, you can't just opt in as you please without putting in the required number of days present. What changed for crypto?
  19. Nonsense, it's a multi entry visa - once it's in the passport it last for 5 years and you can come and go as you please. You can't get a re-entry permit for a multiple entry visa because it has one built in.
  20. It is, I renewed mine for an additional 15 years last year which takes me up to 2040 for a one off 500k Baht fee. I've had people tell me there's no such thing as a 5 year visa and that I've been scammed - most people seem to have no clue just what you get with it. I've over 50 now and still decided to extend it as it's that useful.
  21. Interesting, I previously had an Elite visa attached at the airport on arrival, it lasted for about 2 years which took me up until the passport expiry date, this was back in late 2019. When I got the new passport I had to go to Chaeng Wattana and have another visa sticker inserted which lasted for the remainder of my 5 years - about 3 years. I'm still using this visa in my 'new' passport which is now a couple of years old and will get another sticker when I return to Thailand around the end of the year. I'm told by them that a new visa can be inserted on arrival or in Chaeng Wattana during the last 6 months of its validity. Note - above is with TE visa, but previously I believe all visas expired on the same date as your passport so this is a change in policy which is welcome, especially if you can continue to use the visa in the old passport while holding a new passport - but that remains to be seen as visas tend to have the passport number linked to them.
  22. I'm not paying anything in Cambodia, they also have a 183 day test which I will not meet for residency requirements. Also due to the amounts involved it would definitely be a lot less in Cambodia but only for a year or two as most of the income will be at 35% in Thailand, specifically for this year and next year - this really did come at the wrong time for me financially, I was planning on using the 'next year' remittance method.
  23. It's not though, money and those who have plenty of it are highly mobile if needed. They're not getting mine as I won't allow it, that's why I'm now sitting in my apartment in Phnom Penh considering buying somewhere down here.
  24. Only extensions of stay need to be done by the passport holder. 90 day reports could be done by your cleaner if you want, also this is on any visa, not just the TE visa. I suspect you're getting confused by the part where TE will go to Chaeng Wattana on your behalf - well anyone can do that on any visa, always could
  25. I upgraded my current 5 year membership to the 20 year option last year which means I can come and go at my leisure until 2040. A one year stamp every time I arrive, even if it's just for a few weeks Oh and for those who complain about 90 day reporting, you don't need to do that yourself, just send someone else - it's much easier.
