  1. You have never been dumped? :D

Be a man, leave her alone - if she never calls again, that will be it.

As others say, find a girl who is really into you :)

I do wish people would read the threads before posting.

Tommy is getting married. Congratulations are in order. :D

Yes .... Tommy is getting married and it just took a couple of " i'm not calling you moves & a sorry phone call move " and magic !!!!

When is the wedding date and at what time should we arrive.

    :D

Thailand is such an amazing place...

  2. Hi,

I'll need your opinion here. My fren has some Bangkok package ON OFFER, and i was wandering whether it is a bargain or not..

3 Days 2 Night Stay at 5 Star Grand Sukhumvit Hotel + 2 way transfer Transfer ( 2 to go ) = THB3500 per person

Extension Night = THB1250 per night per person

Only Hotel = THB2600 per night

The hotel is located at PRIME Area of SUKHUMVIT and is rated 5 STAR.. My fren told me the Normal price is around THB5000 per person.. And he only hv 30 Nights left Valid 1 year ( blackout date apply )

Would like to hear your advise

    Thx

The Hotel is 5 star and in a good location next to Robinsons department store and not far from Nana area.

If it's 3,500 baht for two nights per person , that is a very good rate as that works out at 1,750 baht per night incl transfers.

    That's a good deal.

    cheers :)

  3. Some years ago my best pal and I were discussing this same topic, but approached it from a different angle. In an effort to find the "perfect" country in which to live, we each made a list of aspects we favoured and a list of intolerable faults for each country. Then, by a process of elimination, we discovered there was only ONE country that fulfilled our aspirations.

Not England, not Thailand, not Finland, not even New Zealand…..it's known as

  4. My wife just went to the Bangkok police to get the required police record for her visa to the U.S., but they told her she needs to pay 30,000 baht to get a clean record. Evidently she got a mark on her record for gambling a few months ago while playing cards in her village. She thought it wasn't on her record since she paid the local police 1,200 baht, but evidently it is. Are there any other options that anyone knows of to clear this other than paying the bribe or is that the only thing to do? I was thinking that dealing with her village police might be cheaper, but don't know if that is feasible or not. Appreciate any help.

jimb , even though the 1,200 baht was paid locally , I wouldn't think that contacting them again to do anything about it would be a good idea.

It just sounds like a bad situation that didn't pan out to good.

Remember , this is Thailand & the rule is pay for the " get out of jail free card " so I don't really see any other option but to pay the RTP the 30k.

  7. I always thought Koh Samet was a little off key...

The first beach is okay for partying as alot of farangs but nothing fancy

The second bay with the little pier is more Thai orientated and a little nicer in my opinion but quieter..

Never furthered around more than that...

If i'd paid 6.500 baht for 2 nights and it was a dump i would have demanded my money back.

Go to Hua Hin and the Marriot courtyard on the beach front is only B2,600 if you rock up to the desk book via the net and as little as 1,500 baht for a truly 4 slash 5 star experience for little money....

    bah to koh samet.....

fly to Phuket or krabi and stay in a nice hotel for 6,500 baht....

    ripped off in opinion!

sanook2me, just to let you know we were a group of 12 people so bht 6,500 for two nights is not ripped off. My comment was that the standards have deminished somewhat & the service certainly lacks any credibility.

    cheers :)

  8. Sorry to hear about your hotel room! Just seems like bad luck - dont be afraid to mention the hotel here, makes a warning for everyone. Better than just generalizing.

In contrast, ive been going to Samet for years and feel that the prices havent really gone up at all, the food has, sure - but not really accommodation. For me the place hasnt changed too much over the past few years, so no i dont see Samet getting worse! I just take care though on where i stay and eat etc... same as anywhere i go.

hi ThaiEye , thanks for your comments. The place we stayed was the Sea Horse resort on Von Duen ... & we have stayed there before. It just seems they never fix anything.

But other than that we did have a good time.. :)

May look at a better place next time..

    cheers.

  9. Hi all , I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has an opinion on Koh Samet ..

Just got back from Koh Samet , there were a group of us that stayed two nights there.

I just want to make mention regarding how the standard of service has depreciated over the past as well as room maintenance and the place in general.

Where we stayed , the lady was only interested in her money !! that's all... we paid the cash ..(bht6,500)..went to the room and as usual , the shower head sprayed more water on the door & walls than on me , the electrical sockets were broken, not one towel rail in the room or the bathroom so I don't know where they expect you to hang a towel out. ( except outside there was two broken wooden racks).

The small round concrete BBQ cooker we had out the front was as old as me and no ash tray.

Anyway , the list goes on ...

They just do not care about spending one cent on upkeep & replacement ...

Also, I noticed at the bars and when ordering food the service & food left a lot to be desired.

The prices are getting up around western & european prices but the infrustructure & service is getting worse. I think a change is eminant next time.

    Cheers :)

  11. Doea anyone know where to get cheap passport photos done in the Sukhumvit/Ploenchit area?

Maybe one of those photo machines?

I got them done on Sukhumvit last time and was charged 800 bht for 4 photos!

    Total BS

Go to any photo shop and enquire on the price. I recently has 8 done in Sukumvit Soi 22 & it cost Baht 300.

    That's about the correct price.

  12. been married for 3 years now, relationship has turned abusive and a little violent, and i now want to leave as soon as possible -a few weeks max.

unfortunately my father invested 800,000, plus 100,000 furniture etc into a property here for us with thai husbands father also contributing 800,000.

we made a contract 3 yrs ago not with a lawyer but just between my husband and myself to say we both own it, its not a very professional contract.

the land paper is in his fathers name and husband will inherit in the future.

husband has no money to pay me back half, although his familly may have.

husband desperately wants a divorce before i leave, i keep saying no divorce untill i get my money back. is this a good thing to do.

what other recorse do i have.

    Get a lawyer :)

  13. Another Amazing Thailand experience in which one pays a tax on a tax on a tax on a tax...

I recently imported some tractor parts from Italy and got an unexpectedly high bill for additional charges from the courier, UPS. Imagine my surprise to find from the very friendly and helpful UPS people that 10% duty is applied not only to the goods, but also to the courier charge. Imagine my further surprise to find that Customs stick on a per-kilogram charge BEFORE they calculate the 10% duty, and then imagine my diminishing surprise (by this time) to find that Revenue Department charges 7% VAT on the whole lot, including the duties.

And then imagine my complete lack of surprise to find that there was a further "taxable charge" payable to UPS (presumably for sorting out the above) and yet another 7% VAT on that. So I paid Thai VAT on a service to pay Thai VAT on a Thai duty on a Thai duty.

The figures (Thai Baht) worked out as follows:

    a. cost of goods - 2,724.50

    b. air freight charge - 4,301

    c. Thai customs charge (300 per kilo) - 900

    d. insurance (for something or other) - 70

    e. Sub-total - 7,995.50

    f. Thai customs duty (10%) on ALL of above - 799

    g. VAT on both (e) AND (f) - 615

    h. Taxable charge - 150

    i. VAT on (h) - 10.50

    j. Grand total - 9,570

From the above trouser-emptying experience, you can work out that the total import tariff comes to 85% of the value of the goods!! Riap Roi? Or Rip Off?

    Not Really Amazed At All

    Phang Nga

consult an experienced person who is aware of all import/export duty taxes etc... not thiavisa..

  14. I am looking for the true coffee coffee shop at Sukhumvit MRT.

The address on the true coffee site is:

MTR Sukhumvit Station Unit 11, 12 Klongtoey Klongtoey, Bangkok 10110

I asked for directions from the MRT station's staff and he told me to go up 1 level and turn right... walk 100m. Total nonsense! He should have said he didn't know and asked someone else who knew. I even showed him the true coffee card to let him know I wanted to go to true coffee... Tough luck..

Enough of my ranting.. Anyone knows how to get there? Is it in the Sukhumvit MRT station or outside it? Is it in that "Metro Mall"?

sorry ... turn left walk through the mall ... 80m on your left !!

  15. Hi, I've spent considerable time going through a lot of threads about rice harvesters and other related topics. I'm thinking of buying one (or even 2) to ease the labour burden on the extended family come harvesting time (there is a direct benefit for me in doing so). There is not enough of the immediate family's land to warrant the purchase in itself, but I feel that there won't be a problem in cutting nearby fields (all family related in same way). The goal is to start creating a revenue stream with harvesting being one part of the yearly income equation. There are 2 harvests per year.

After reading the various threads, I have some specific questions that I'm sure members on here would be kind enough to help me with.

The individual fields (in the Yasothon region) are relatively small in the area I'm looking at. I feel that a smaller combine would suit the area better than the larger ones. I saw one of the large ones harvesting last season and thought it just made a mess of everything. It seems that the census on here seems to be that the Kubota DC-60 is the way to go and if that's the case, my questions are:

    1. Has anyone used or observed these machines over a period of time?

    2. Anyone know about their reliability so far?

    3. Any known problems?

    4. How do they handle clay soils?

Discussing this with the extension of the extended family, they say that the proposal is sound but they have reservations about how these smaller combines will handle damp/wet clay conditions. I would have thought that the lighter weight of these machines would assist them in such conditions, I also realise however that other factors such as clearance and track size etc will play a part in it all.

The other thing that I have a concern about is that this model Kubota requires a 2-3 man team. Obviously a 1 man crew would be better on a labour cost issue, but then this I presume would mean buying a more expensive (and larger) combine and thus getting a headache trying to figure out which is better - larger capital outlay versus additional labour costs. The plan was to buy a second Kubota (due to their cheaper costs) after initially trialling the first one (unless I feel that they will be right). The other huge benefit is that they can be transported with a trailer as opposed to what is needed with the larger combines.

    5. What sort of wages (only during harvesting) would be appropriate?

One of the "aunts" gave an indication of what would be a good breakdown which I think is way over the top – but I could be wrong and hence looking for advice here. She suggested that out of every 100 baht, the breakdown should be 30 baht for labour (not sure if this is for 2 or 3 workers) and 10 baht for any work that has been referred to me (spotters fee I would call that – but I'm guessing that would only be for the first reference?). Doing some quick calculations at 600 baht per rai (the cost of the last season, but this might go back to 500 with the lower fuel costs...maybe) I'm looking at 180 baht per rai. Let's say we only do 1 rai an hour and say we do 10 rai a day, that 1,800 baht in total and for 3 people = 600 baht per day each. That seems to me to be well and truly having a laugh considering I'm the one forking out something like 850k for the machine. While I think a per rai arrangement is the best to encourage them to get stuck into things, I'm wondering what others think.

    6. What sort of income could I be looking at (per rai per day per season) to get an idea of creating a business model?

The all important crystal ball question – sorry. The reason I ask is that I could buy a condo and rent it out at around 30k a month = 360k a year on a 4.1 mil outlay that's gross, less 24k for juristic and presuming nil vacancy. With 2 harvesters (plus trailer, construct shed etc) on (say) a 2 mil outlay that would require an equivalent of 160k per year to be generated.

    7. How do people collect the discarded rice straw from the harvester?

Please excuse my ignorance on this, but the collection of rice straw from the family's fields is used for cow feed. Is it just a case of manually raking it up after the harvester is gone?

    hi Isee ,

I have been reading all these threads with interest as i am looking at getting a harvester much for the same sinario as you mentioned. My friend has only 4 rai but wants to contract the harvester out also.

I have looked at many options , and feel that the DC68G may be the best suited overall as the KPI machines are very expensive and not as reliable as the Kubota.

Anyway ...what did you end up purchasing ? and is there anything you would change ?

    Cheers,

    steven100 :)
