  1. Hi all,

    Just a quick one.

I had a single entry tourist visa & an outward ticket to Australia, I tried to explain to the immigration that I wanted to save my Tourist Visa to use when I return from Australia.

However , the lady in charge informed me that the Visa had to be used now for entry & therefor I could not save it for later.

Anyway , now my question : When I want to return to thailand from Australia I will have to show a Visa or a ticket ,

Does the ticket have to be from Thailand to Australia ?

Can I show a train ticket to Penang ? ( as this is much cheaper )

Do I just need to show an onward ticket to any country ?

    Thanks & cheers :)

  2. Here's my take ..... If a tourist buys a copy watch , handbag whatever how the hel_l can that affect or infringe on revenue from the original supplier or company.

The tourist is not going to pay hundreds of dollars for an original rolex , gucci or any other brand. So what is the big deal.

Also , the vendor makes his money, he employs thais, the copy factory employs thais who take money home to put food on the table.

I for one am happy to buy a fake as I will never be able to buy the real thing and even if I had enough money I woundn't waste it on name brands anyway.

If a poor person wants to buy a copy or fake then who is it hurting ???

I hope the Gucci's , Valentinos ect.. go bust.... good on the fakes :D

Tell me if i'm wrong !

    Cheers..

steve, while I tend to hold the opinion that extortionist fee practices of certain software companies has lead to the huge counterfit problem its facing, stealing is stealing - call it what you want.

I am not sure what business you are in but if you had someone knocking off your patented / copywrited products and services - you wouldn't be happy.

I don't disgagree as to the 'immediate' commercial harm in having some tourist buy a fake rolex will have on the company - it doesn't make it right does it?

The other day - I went to the licenced Man Utd store in Lad Prao and paid over the top price for a pair of shorts. I could have gotten something very similar on the street for 1/8th the cost I am sure. I chose not too. Why, it wasn't the difference in price - it's the fact that I wanted authentic garment that was hopefully produced in some properly run factory with ethical practices. I have my reasons - I am sure those who buy copies have their reasons.

Are we at this stage in the world the of commerce where R&D and brand building are worth nothing though?

anyways, the actions I would guess are window dressing yet again.

Bad money pushing out the good...

Let's look at it this way:

You buy exclusive goods so that you can: 1. show you can afford it 2. Have goods that others can't afford and thus become more exclusive

If counterfeiting allows people to appear to have a real item, this ultimately reduces the "value" of the original item.

If you see aperson with a Rolex now, do you think it's real or that it's a fake ? Personally, I assume it's a fake and this means fewer people will want to buy a real Rolex because they'll have people assume it's a fake and then defend the fact that's it's real.

So, the fake watch is driving out the authentic watch. People now look for other, more exclusive watches that haven't yet been pirated to the extreme.

Another case I can think of is Burberry. It was originally thought to be the domain of the rich and famous until football hooligans started to wear Burberry baseball caps and scarfs.

I bet the Burberry executives didn't rub their hands in glee at the "increase in sales", I bet they sat in shock horror as their market dynamics shifted and they lost the kind of customers they were after; i.e the ones that could afford Burberry outfits and not just baseball caps and scarfs.

No self respecting hi-so would wear something a football hooligan is also wearing.

    Bad money drives out good.

    As I mentioned earlier , I completely disagree ...

so you would sooner see the thai vendor go out of business but the yank is fine .... he got his medal ..ha..stopped those dam_n pirated goods... and i don't care about everyone else...

well ... sorry ..but thats BS...and good luck to the vendors....

    cheers :)

While I respect your comment, I disagree ...

If I want to buy an original I will.... end of storey , if I cannot afford I will buy the copy !! The US has alot to answer for and I for one would not even go there even if you gave me a free ticket.

What about the pirated goods the US sells as mentioned in the earlier message !!

What about all the one rule for us , one rule for them ...

sorry , it just don't cut it ..

    cheers...

  5. Not much info on the embassy website but does have contact info and a map.

    ubonjoe..

I can enquire here in Nairobi at the Thai embassy. I met the ambassador at a Songkran day we had here a few weeks back... water pistols and all :o

So as you mentioned , the best way would be to get a 2 entry Tourist Visa .

Then i dont need to show a ticket for BKK-BNE. correct ?

    cheers.

  6. To board a flight from any country ( UAE ) to Thailand - I may need to show either a Tourist Visa or an exit ticket out of thailand dated within 30 days of arrival.

So I can buy my BKK-BNE-BKK (AUSTRALIA) ticket on the internet before leaving UAE for BKK ? ( can i show the email ticket printout ? )

Then I either need to apply for a Tourist Visa for Thailand while in Brisbane or buy a refundable one-way BKK-BNE to show before I board from Brisbane to Bangkok again. ? then get the refund when back in Bangkok.

    Is that the best way.

    Thanks for any help.

    Cheers. :o

Keep in mind that also in Brisbane they will not let you board the flight to BKK if you don't have a ticket to leave Thailand!

Tks pit101, so i should buy a fully refundable ticket BKK-BNE to show , then get the refund back when in bangkok.

Just get a Thai visa at the Consulate in Brisbane,

or get a 2 entry before I travel from kenya where i am now.. ?

  7. Yes the email confirmation of an e-ticket is ok. Paper tickets are rare these days.

To save all the ticket worries you could buy a ticket to KL on Air Asia to show a ticket out for the first leg and then change it (500 baht change fee last time I checked) to work on the 2nd leg. Then trash it if you don't use it.

Or get a 2 entry tourist visa before you travel.

ubonjoe, so if i get a 2 entry tourist visa from here ( now in Kenya ) that will allow me to enter Thailand from Kenya - Dubai - Bangkok .... stay a week then go to Brisbane and then return to Bangkok without showing any rtn back to BNE. ?

    :o

  9. No. But the airline might not let you fly here without it if you do not have a visa.

    Hi Lopburi3 & ubonjoe,

thanks for your feedback. - I want to go to Australia for 8 days. BKK-BNE-BKK

So am i correct in saying :

I will fly from UAE to Bangkok :

  10. This is my take ...

Logic response ... ( you cannot argue with common sense )

..... The Red shirts have shown complete disrespect for the law and therefore should be held accountable.

You can have a peacefull protest to get your point accross... but they had no intention of a peacefull protest ....

I was watching Aljazara TV this morning and the head huncho was just making excuse after excuse when asked why the government car was attacked ... why was the government building siezed .... he said the protesters were enraged ... Well if they are so enraged why not go home and tip a cold bucket of water over there heads to cool down....

These guys are breaking the law .. they deserve the punishment...good on the army for taking action against these protesters.

Also, I blame Taksin as part of the problem as he is enticing them to cause mayhem and revolt... he should be extradited and charged accordingly... Thats what happens in a democratic society...

What are most thais going to think of these protesters after seeing there actions on TV. ?? :o not hard to answer !!

    IMO.. :D

  14. The army has not learned it lessons. You cannot win an uprising. Neither in the South, neither in Bangkok, neither in the North or North East. The army is big and slow, therefore the protestors can move quickly and strike wherever they want. if they want to disrupt the daily live they can do so. The army clear one crossing they take 4 crossings, when the army moves in, they move out, regroup and take new targets, huge armies have lost that way. There is not other solution than striking a deal which is acceptable for each and everyone.

However, at last a show of strength from a government supposed to be in place for the people. Do you want wishy washy non action or should these people be shown that there IS a law. Seems we complain about No action then complain about the action when it arrives and as to how we could all 'do a better job" We are guests...... observe by all means but armchair pontificators are no help!

What a logical and good response. Seems it doesn't need to be said, but obviously...........

Those 3 pictures with the reds in action really are scary.

    Thanks first I have sen

Hard to tell what is going on though.

    Retaliation...attack....defense??

They come from a Michigan blog site??

Get real, they are trying to kick the shit out of the police/army, and one guy, probably a civil servant at the ministery. What do you mean, hard to tell?

    BREAKING NEWS !!!...

TANKS have now been deployed to strategic round abouts...... not looking good for Thailand !!

  16. TOT is the slowest on Phuket. I pay 1000b for Cyber GOLD and I get TIN delivered. Unfortunately I got a telephone line fromTOT. My complaint to

    Khun Phonlasate Krichtiyawuth

    Telelcommunications Consumer

    Protection Institute

    87 Pahonyothin Soi 8

    Kweng Samsennai

    Khet Phyathai

    Bangkok 10400

    was not a resounding success.

TOT came back, having checked my line, again. Domestic ok, 1700kbs. I knew that.

International is the bottle neck, worst for TOT. Legally they promise a certain kbs but say nothing about domestic or international.

    See Phuket Gazette reporting

    http://www.live-access.com/PhuketInternet.aspx

Tried to get TT&T which is much better , was told no lines available

Question= how to change a phone line or is it property of TOT?.

    Any other solutions?

    I agree with H2oDunc ....

You get what you pay for ... and there all similar .. It's thailand... :o

  17. I believe that two reasons exist way a Thai may not be able to leave the country. 1) Called for, or currently serving in the military. 2) Having served a sentence in prison.

Aside from that, Brits can indeed "marry" their partners at the British Embassy in Hanoi (as I did last year), or at the British Consulate in Ho Chi Minh. Quite a few couples based in Thailand have made the trip. As correctly mentioned, it can't be done at the Bangkok embassy.

Hi pauln , your two reasons are speculation only.

My thai BF cannot travel mainly because of his work situation, he cannot get a week or two off as would be needed. He may be able to get 3-4 days maximum. Also, I am Australian & not British ... as I understand it...Brits can go to Vietnam & marry. correct ??

  18. Hi all,

I am perplexed as to the easiest & most convenient way to marry a thai BF.

I realise it is not possible in Thailand , and another problem is the thai BF cannot travel to another country.

Is there any other way to marry other than travel outside thailand ??

Can you submit doc's by mail or email to another country ??

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    Cheers. :o
