Stories of big drug busts are commonplace here but when will the problem be addressed at the source ? Unless I am mistaken most of the drugs are made in Myanmar, smuggled into North Thailand and then distributed throughout the country. Myanmar needs to take some responsibility here and maybe a joint task force could be set up to seriously address his problem.

The reconciliation process cannot even begin as long as groups larger than 5 people are still not allowed to have meetings. It's high time to lift this ban for the new year. Yes corruption needs to be addressed too but I think the ridiculous defamation laws need to be changed first. People are reluctant to report corruption when they fear they will end up being sued for defamation.

I note this is an army initiative.....why are they always doing the things that should be done by police ? If the police did the checkpoints on their own then tea money would be passed and the vehicle would not be taken away. It's time for the police in this country to start doing their job !

Selling the remaining 42 planes in storage will be a painful pill for THAI to swallow because it will involve significant losses but these planes will not increase in value (particularly the A-340's) as they clog up Don Muang and other airports.
They don't need more foreign advisors; they need an experienced foreign CEO who would be given a free hand to reduce staffing and make other changes without government interference. Until this is done the losses will continue.

An equally annoying problem is the overloading of the baht buses. They refuse to leave South Pattaya for Jomtien unless 6 people are sitting on each side (which is uncomfortable) plus a few standing on the back which I refuse to do. I have seen as many as 15 passengers on these vehicles which is too many. There should be legal limits.

Government is outraged by all the demonstrations...if gatherings of over 5 people were legal they would see massive demonstrations here and they would include many Thais

They are back to calling these Inter-provincial buses "Tour Buses" again. It seems that there is an incident like this every week and they mostly happen at night with drivers falling asleep. I would never take an overnight bus in Thailand.

The banks are to blame for a lot of this, very hard for average Thai's to obtain a loan even if ever so small.
The ones who are benifiting off the poor are scum they know they can offer lower interest but greed is what it is all about.
Banks are also to blame for extending too much credit to some people, well beyond the ability to repay loans. I am sure many of the people who use loan sharks have already exhausted the credit lines with banks. I think many here do not live within their means.

Fill out the application for Internet banking at BB and put a note at bottom of application that you will take your business elsewhere unless you get this service. I did this and received password the following week by email

Is Lao Central Airlines still in business ? They had very cheap flights from BKK to Vientiane and from Vientiane to Luang Prabang. Some friends took van and told me the roads were terrible from LP to Vientiane.

Family just wants closure which is understandable.......if demonstrations were allowed in Thailand right now I think that a huge number of people would come out to demonstrate on behalf of those poor boys.

The most outrageous miscarriage of justice I have seen in my 11 years here.

Russia lies about everything. I don't know how their foreign minister can sleep at night,

Change the ridiculous demfation laws here if there is a sincere interest to reduce corruption significantly.

There will be some good jobs in Myanmar in the next few years as things change rapidly there....many if not most of the Myanmar workers in Thailand will want to return to their country leaving a huge labor shortage here....everyone knows that Thai people don't want those jobs.

From what I can see the banks here extend far too much credit to Thais and they are partially responsible for this problem. If credit was not so easy to obtain then the debtors would no be so overextended.

I understand the PM's frustration about the level of tax evasion here. I have often thought that people of working age should be filing tax returns in order to vote. (Even if their income level does not require a tax payment).

At least they didn't call it a tourist bus this time.....seems this is almost a weekly event. Overnight bus rides are very dangerous here.

China is still going ahead with building over 150 new coal fired power plants I read recently. Most of their heat is powered by coal so there is always a big increase in air pollution when they turn on the heat. They really need alternate sources of power badly.

I hope that those polling 5% or less drop out after this debate.

One other alternative would be to add a fifth car to BTS trains....this would reduce overcrowding and increase capacity. Eliminating Saphan Taksin station completely should not be considered

I have an FX USD account at Bangkok Bank...the only extra id required was my US Driver's license..no guarantors......opened this account at the main office as I live nearby. The advantage to an FX account is that you can convert dollars to baht any time you feel that the exchange rate is advantageous. I would never want an ATM card for this account though as all of my transactions here are in baht and I already have an ATM card for one of two baht accounts I have. I can transfer up to $10,000 online from USA account for $10..it costs about $16 to receive this amount at Bangkok Bank.

I also recommend Dr. Wicharn at BNH. He performed a minimally invasive operation on my back (posterior decompression) 5 years ago and I walked home 40 hours after the surgery.

My ATM card from Bangkok Bank lasts 10 yr I think which is too long for normal wear and tear. In USA automatically get new card every two years. I too was told I could not have internet banking but could try to apply anyway. I wrote a note at bottom of application that I would move my funds to another bank if I was not given Internet access; 5 days later received password in my e-mail.

You have to give the guy credit for utilizing free media coverage to the max in recent months . He probably got more coverage than all of the others combined. Now it's time to spend some money with the first polls scheduled for early 2016.
