  1. No, you haven't understood it. He's not being sued for releasing a video of a killing. He's being sued for saying that another lawyer who had the video earlier was using it to blackmail the police officers involved. The defamation is against the other lawyer.
  2. We've been out with Wild Encounter Thailand. I think they're revamping their website but they post pretty frequently on their Facebook page. They're currently not allowed to run trips but when restrictions are lifted we're planning to go out again.
  3. No, it's in its home range. The Bryde's Whales pretty much stay in the top half of the Gulf and numbers are steady I think. When we've been out on trips, they've said that while whale deaths sometimes make the news, births rarely do. I think a couple of calves so far this year.
  4. It's a nice picture but not exactly rare. The area is part of the home range of the Bryde's Whales in the Gulf. There's one excellent company who are involved in conservation and can pretty much guarantee that they'll find whales for you. We've been twice, heading out from Samut Sakhon, and weren't disappointed. Once we didn't really lose sight of Bangkok's tallest buildings and the other time they had to take us a bit further south. Makes a great day trip.
  5. Another interesting article in Thisrupt. Apparently 2011-17, Joe Ferrari confiscated over 300 smuggled luxury cars. Auctioned off, they totalled around 1 billion baht. 25% goes to the arresting officers and 30% to any informants. So Joe has made big money and, of course, he's the one smuggling the cars in himself. Presumably, organizing informants as well you'd guess. Sharing out the appropriate cuts to his superiors etc. and everyone's happy. https://thisrupt.co/current-affairs/nausea-and-corruption-in-siam-land/
  6. Oh yes, I agree. It was just a shame that he subverted the 1997 constitution because the whole process and the vote that adopted it was quite a decent piece of work. His strangling of all criticism I don't think actually worked to his own benefit in the end either. That period around the adoption of the 1997 constitution probably gave the most cause for optimism I've seen surrounding Thai politics. It's certainly in very short supply these days.
  7. It was quite an exciting time with the vote on that constitution probably being the most openly debated and genuine popular vote that I've witnessed in my time in Thailand. And then Thaksin came along and (quite deliberately) exploited all its weaknesses. It was also a time that the media was just starting to gain some traction and become more independent but Thaksin sent that straight back into the bin. Not to ignore the good works he did, mostly at the beginning of his period as PM, but he was just as top down as any other Thai leader.
  8. You will need to use a different tax form. Usually your tax would be submitted through a ภงด 91 form but you'll have to submit using a ภงด 90 form that is used when you have additional income to your main employment. The easiest way will simply be to give the tax records from the second job to whoever deals with your tax return at your main employer. They can then file your annual tax return using the correct form.
  9. The second sentence says "at least". It's just the next date that they'll review. It seems very unlikely there'll be any significant easing at the end of this month unless the numbers have a real downturn.
  10. You scan the QR code with your bank app and put in the payment. Even a lot of little market stalls and street food places have them now.
  11. Probably have to account for vaccinations, age groups and such like as well perhaps. The CDC table clearly shows Delta as a very slightly higher on the fatality scale.
  12. From the CDC in the US, Delta is slightly more deadly than the original variant but much more transmissible. Transmissibility is similar to chicken pox but less than measles.
  13. He's certainly not what the new generation of demonstrators are looking for.
