  1. This is what I mean by people falling through the cracks and not being able to comply with any new requirements. Those saying the authorities should tighten up should be careful what they wish for - it might came back and bite them on the rear. They might not be able to prove no criminal record and have to leave while the criminals bask in the Thai sun having used the usual channels.
  2. Did you have the "has Thai child" visa? - it would only apply to a Thai child so they would know your son was Thai etc. anyone file a 90 day/TM30 at old address? etc
  3. I'm afraid all day protection only comes from the gooey type that takes ages to dry. I use Nivea black charcoal. Forget the designer stuff - if you can't go home and shower you will be very smelly by the time you meet your date in the evening.
  4. All this is just the trail left by your visa/extension applications and grants and doesn't indicate any knowledge beyond that, surely.
  5. I think it is the Beijing model that is being planned, although they might not know it yet.
  6. They have the number of times you have tried to access forbidden web sites on record and what category, e.g porn, anti establishment etc. not really (at least as far as I know), but it sure made some of you choke on your cornflakes, no?
  7. Due to the wording of the reporting perhaps, a lot of people are assuming it will be a financial increase , and likely it will if changes are made, BUT: IMO the point Hapkarn is actually making when he says it is too easy is that all you have to do to qualify is be 50+ and have 800k/65kmonth. I think what he is getting at is that there needs to be (in his view) further requirements to qualify than just those in order to keep the "bad" farangs out (and to hell with collateral damage to "good" farangs).
  8. No country for old men. I will be leaving for healthcare reasons at some point. I am already feeling a sigh of relief that Thai Immigration changing the rules will not be something I have to worry about. The risk is being too old to start again somewhere but no longer eligible for new requirements. Thailand is NOT a retirement country. If it ever was it ceased to be when Hapkarn changed the financial requirements without grandfathering. AN's financial titans seemingly always left 800k to rot in a deposit account paying paltry interest, but retirement for most/many means reduced income and lack of financial flexibility. I repeat Thailand is NOT a RETIREMENT destination. It is workable if you have somewhere you can go back to with nothing more than getting on a flight and turning the key in your front door back home. Key takeaway: Stay in Thailand retired one year at a time but DON'T sell up/burn your bridges to back home. All of you who think it will just be financial upping might be in for a shock - there might be some other requirement, such as that you are "educated" which in Thailand means Masters degree. Nobody of my generation bothered with that. An unlikely case I agree, but one of the new (albeit specialised) visas requires a Masters degree despite it not being the norm outside Thailand/years ago Malaysia has explicitly stated that it only wants people who will make a meaningful contribution to Malaysia and if you look at the new BoI 5 year visa types, that is basically the criteria. 65k/month doesn't hack it for that test. Possibly it will only be these visas that are offered in future.
  9. They said that about TM30 enforcement - has lasted a bit longer, as has 400k in the bank year 'round, others.
  10. Aah OK, got it. You have no need to use an agent. What you meant was: Was speaking generally, not specific to you.
  11. Which is which? Is the bad one, the one who asks for everything to the letter and more or the nice IO who does your agency visa at no inconvenience to you? Confused.
  12. We are looking at this too much through our own lens. Stated reason for TM30 was "Temple bells affair" and Iranian terrorists. Actually Imm were embarrassed about not being able to locate Interpol arrest requests and tourists when they hadn't posted on facebook for 2 days and people back home assumed they must have been murdered. Thais are asking how is it that all these foreign criminals are operating in Thailand and how does Imm permit these people?- in particular romance scammers and conmen - must get their goat to be romance scammed or conned.
  13. Depends what it is. A photo of a roof maybe, a required document, not so sure.
  14. You may be closer than you think - China has stated it doesn't want any Western influence in what it considers it's back yard. That definition of "Influence" includes Westerners living there. I have seen comments from Chinese to the effect that China regards itself as having "dominion" over all black haired Asian peoples - it is after all the "Middle Kingdom"
  15. Grandfathering was pre 2014 Governments. They didn't grandfather anybody in for the de facto increase of bt400k PA from the requirement to keep 400k in the account year 'round.
  16. This is because the US is an extremist totalitarian state now. Most Americans haven't noticed the same way frogs boiled in a pot don't notice until it is too late. Note: I LIKE Americans and have many American friends.
  17. ....but I had to bring in an additional 400k so he was talking out of his @rse, dishonestly in my opinion.
  18. Nothing whatsoever, I don't have Elephantiasis, Leprosy or TB, not even Syphilis last time I checked, no criminal record and i could meet the financial requirements of he new long stay visas. I just don't want at best additional paperwork and lining up dates, at worst not being able to renew because I can't get a required document or get it in time. This could happen currently with TM30 and there goes your grandfathering on 800k, when it could be Bt3m for new applicants. Others see what I am getting at?
  19. What happens when somebody's previous employer closes down. It is these situations where we can't provide what is asked that can be the problem, and the more they ask the more likely we fall through the cracks.situations. Imm have very precise requirements and are very pedantic about them being met - I am not sure I know of cases where they accept something else in lea of what the regulations stipulate.
  20. It has always been that when I hand over the correct documents it is just a formality, All very well if your landlord supplies TM30 documents, without which you can't extend your visa. All very well if you can match insurance dates with your OA visa dates - the risk is we get hit with a curve ball that is difficult to comply with. What if your Landlord dies and can't provide TM30 docs when you are asked to update TM30 by immigration?
  21. So many Turkeys voting for Christmas in this thread.
  22. No it should not. If you want to subjugate yourself to the onerous OA requirement go ahead, but many of us are quite happy getting an O extension and avoiding the requirements. Why get this visa? Extra requirements for no benefit other than 1 year on entry and then you STILL have the requirements for each subsequent year renewal.. https://www.mfa.go.th/en/page/non-immigrant-visa-o-a?menu=5e1ff71bc4281a00c812e8e2
  23. People with beards - they're obviously hiding something. Any more?
  24. I thought you were going to say: '....by which time I had been convicted for a criminal offence. All those howling for the criminal record check take note - you will have to line the dates up and it will be within a timeframe set by IB which may bear no relation to the time needed to get it from your home country. just stop wishing for things to be made harder. It is far more likely to backfire on you then get rid of the "trash".
  25. Where is this "copies of your home bank statement showing your income " requirement applied putativelydiscussed? I also think it is not beyond the realms of possibility that they demand "source of funds" similar to AMLO requirements to prove that they are (supposedly) not ill gotten gains and thus (supposedly) eliminate criminals applications. I seem to have read on these boards that some provincial Immigration Offices require evidence of source of the 65k. They could accept only Government and large company pensions as some S American countries do.
