Police Commission Votes to Remove 'Big Joke' from Service
mokwit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
That is one interpretation, the other is that he was put there to oversee the bidding process by a Patron with expensive horological tastes. Quite possibly his departure was due to ruffling of feathers, but maybe not as you suggest. -
Police Commission Votes to Remove 'Big Joke' from Service
mokwit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Yes it could have come from Anupong P or Prawit, but it seems that the agent business just carried on as before - we never heard that he was going after the "corrupt" IO's who were facilitating this - just a collective punishment of the law abiding extension applicant which had the likely effect of pushing MORE people to use agents....................... -

Pro tip: Never get in the way of money. Of course it could be Kama for introducing all those new rules for retirement extensions. -
Is Thailand a good place to settle down for the rest of your life?

If one is tired of Bangkok one is tired of life, for in Bangkok there is all that life can afford. -
Is Thailand a good place to settle down for the rest of your life?
mokwit replied to RolandRat's topic in General Topics
This is a myth. You are depleting the pool of money to be transferred from you to her family by having other women. Thailand is not a place to retire to with burnt bridges, you will end up angst ridden about changes in visas etc. If you can just get on a 'plane and be secure somewhere else then it is fine. -
Thai PM Defends Changes to Property Rules for Foreign Buyers
mokwit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
All we will have to worry about is all the other shifting sands like visas, tax etc. No country for old men. I am sure that this move will be appreciated by those nationalities/religions that like to take over an area or a condo and make it theirs and then give people who have been living there for years the "what are you doing in the "peaceful people's" area" looks. -

Surachate 'Big Joke' Hakparn challenges Thai PM over dismissal
mokwit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Nope, not at all, there are multiple Generals vying for the position each year which is for one year usually due there being some kind of convention that you are eligible at around age 59 it seems. Hapkarn has outside patronage apparently and this is upsetting things. -
Thai air force transceiver deal raises concerns over inflated costs
mokwit replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
In fairness, it was probably nothing to do with them, more likely they agreed a price and the offshore agent they appointed marked up the price (if you know what I mean). -

Thai Hotels Object to 75% Foreign Condo Ownership Proposal

The problem is if the majority bought to rent and live elsewhere, then there is no resolve. I guarantee if we installed facial recognition the owners who ST let would crawl out of the woodwork to vote at meetings to have it abolished. The best we can hope for is to have all "tenants" officially registered with passport details, rather than this free for all where we don't know who the hell they are and they are coming and going with copied key cards, following on behind other tenants at the security doors, and sneaking up and down the fire escapes. Our security company has a a very different view on what constitutes security provision to the residents. Don't get me wrong, they are nice people, they will open the door with their keycard if someone asks them. They are not there just to wave at people coming past with wheelie luggage, they even help them with it sometimes. -
Violence Erupts Outside LA Synagogue Amid Clashes & Attacks on Jews
mokwit replied to Social Media's topic in World News
According to the story there was some kind of real estate event taking place in the Synagogue and there was a belief that plots of Palestinian land were being sold there. Of course that couldn't be true, could it? -

To make sure it wasn't just flour? Apparently there have been cases of what was thought to be heroin turning out to be flour, although this didn't emerge until after the smuggler had been convicted and sentence served. -

Thai Hotels Object to 75% Foreign Condo Ownership Proposal
mokwit replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
The problem they have is that they need buyers. I think they are well aware that intended ST lets are driving many purchases, even if by owners with unrealistic expectations regarding occupancy and the extent that they can defray cost with ST lets. In my building until recently and maybe still, the juristic person front desk staff handled things for ST letters. Also agents do 1 month lets PoA (one assumes), and you can also sub let to someone who ST lets. AirBnB is a cheap holiday at residents expense. Every AirBnB tenant knows they are not wanted by residents. They brazenly walk past the no ST lets signs (unless of course they are using the fire escape to enter and leave). On the few occasions when I have seen them apprehended and the start of their holiday ruined, I have no sympathy. -

I suspect the condo building industry has greater clout.
