  1. Of course they would! Gives them a chance to push their lies and tell everyone what great defenders of democracy they are. You have to understand that these people (and I’m not only talking about the Myanmar junta here) don’t live in the real world, they have created their own reality where everything they say is true and everything they do is good.
  2. It’s kind of ironic that this summit is being held in the USA, since a fairly large part of the voters there are still convinced that Trump lost because the election was ‘stolen’. About 10-15% even believe it’s acceptable to use force/violence to overthrow the current administration. How’s that for democracy?
  3. Christmas and New Year’s are coming up, so got to have enough money to buy gifts for the family. And the mia noi(s).
  4. How many people are suffering from long covid after they have been infected? I’ve had corona in March 2020 and I’m still not back to normal. My sister had it in June last year and she hasn’t been able to back to work since. Both of us were perfectly healthy when we got the virus, by the way. Stop downplaying the effects of Covid, short and long term, and take it very seriously, because it can either kill you or seriously mess you up for the rest of your life, even if you’re (relatively) young and perfectly healthy.
  5. Or their equivalents from China, North Korea, Myanmar, Syria, Turkey?
  6. Maybe some parts of Thailand. Did they forget to take into account the massive air pollution? PM10 levels in large parts of the north are over 100 already, and the burning season hasn’t even started yet. Bangkok is even worse. So if you want to retire to Thailand, be careful where you retire to, otherwise it will certainly not be healthy and you will be in for a nasty shock.
  7. Just look at the good ole US of A, where Republicans are fighting tooth and nail to prevent ordinary people having a decent income, affordable health care and day care for their children, things like that, while at the same time they (this includes quite a few Democrates, by the way) have no qualms whatsoever to hand over about 800 billion dollars a year to the military, without much in the way of accountability what they spend that ridiculous amount of money on.
  8. The military dictatorship at the time was responsible for thousands of people disappearing, and being put in jail and tortured, all so a small elite could retain their wealth and power. There were plenty of reasons for (young) people to rebel or even take up arms.
  9. Given the abysmal track record of the Thailand police, especially those on Koh Tao, I doubt they would tell you the truth if you asked them what time it was.
  10. Yeah, somehow I don’t think the deputy chief of the CIA is going to share anything even remotely worthwhile or sensitive with anyone in this Thai cabinet.
  11. Apparently the camera not only adds 10 pounds, but it also gives viewers hallucinations, like visions of cops torturing someone. It’s all on camera for everyone to see, and still these morons maintain they did nothing wrong.
  12. I’m more inclined to think that the big shots haven’t yet finished their negotiations with Joe and his accomplices as to what it will take (in terms of $$$) to keep their traps shut and not implicate those higher up the food chain.
  13. Maybe Dear Leader and his cabinet could do a wee bit more to actually make the general public happy and healthy. Just a thought……
  14. What a bunch of absolute hypocrites in their ivory tower! What culture? You mean the massive sex industry culture? Combined with the rip-off-tourists/farangs-as-much-as-you-can culture?
  15. Why do so many autocratic leaders have such a huge ego, and such a pathological need for praise, even if it comes from themselves? I really don’t understand how the minds of these people works, they seem to live in a ‘reality’ that is completely detached from the real world. And yet countless brainless fools believe every word they say and follow them like lemmings off a cliff.
  16. Does he speak two languages, besides Thai? Call me a cynic, but somehow I doubt that very much….
  17. Jeez, what a shocker. Wouldn’t be surprised if China told Prayuth how to ties his shoes.
  18. The only ‘quality’ Thailand are looking for in visitors is money. Doesn’t matter if they’re loud, obnoxious, boorish or knuckle-dragging Neanderthals; they are more than welcome as long as they have very deep pockets and spend all their money here.
  19. Yet another law/regulation that will, in all probability, hardly be enforced……
  20. I’m hopping on the first plane to Thailand to become a motorcycle bounty hunter and get rich!! Or would I need a work permit?
  21. And yet their uniforms are sagging with the weight of all the medals and commendations they received….
  22. Didn’t Prayut, or some other clowns from his cabinet, say there would be no floods in Bangkok? I for one am shocked!!
  23. Why not concentrate on ‘the average’ expat? I think that is the biggest group by far, and if you make it easier for them to come and live in Thailand, that would probably attract the most money. Start by getting rid of all the (or most of the) ridiculous hoops that expats have to jump through in order to be able to live here. Other countries can do it, so why not Thailand? Then get rid of the dual pricing system. Also maybe educate Thai people that expats/farangs are not just walking wallets or ATM’s, we are not all infinitely rich. And then maybe actually start doing something about the increasing air pollution, because Bangkok is getting to be very unhealthy to live in for at least six months a year, and northern Thailand is mostly just a blanket of haze and smog for 4-5 months every year. All this ain’t never going to happen, of course. The powers that be have their own ‘sources of income’, regardless of how many expats come to Thailand, so they don’t give even the tiniest little sh*t. And it shows, because these ideas to attract more expats have been floated for as long as I can remember, and nothing ever came of it.
  24. Not enough punishment. Fleeing the scene of an accident, especially when someone is obviously seriously injured, is beyond despicable.
