Nah. Putin knows if he backs down on this the US and it's allies will seize on it to hurt Russia. He was likely committed to seeing it through the day he sent the tanks into Ukraine. If he wins, the rewards are enormous- he'll have the eastern Ukraine and Crimea, he'll be popular in Russia, NATO will not be going into Ukraine, he'll be able to say he gave the US and Europe a black eye, he'll have damaged western economies and it'll be a long time before the US tries this again.

In the meantime, Trump will use this as a stick to beat Biden with. IMO if Trump had not been a candidate for POTUS, this case would never have happened.
