  1. Quite right too. Pattaya never needed the big malls that only brought in the day trippers from Bkk clogging up the roads. It was doing fine with the three it had in the early 90s. People apparently forget that farang mongers made Pattaya, along with the girls and boys that catered to them.
  2. Excuses, excuses. Can you think of anything built recently that benefits "tourists"? Simple question easily answered without deflecting. You are never short of a sarcastic comment about other posters, including myself specifically, so perhaps you could enlighten us with an actual answer. I'll give you a hand with the projects that DIDN'T benefit tourists. Marina- fail Present beach walkway- fail widening Beach Rd- fail Flood prevention works- fail Allowing too many tourist buses on Second and Beach Rds- fail Too many big malls- fail Allowing speedboats to destroy the walkway to the lighthouse- fail Big eyesore blocking the lookout- fail The big blue concrete expanse in front of the big eyesore- fail the car park building that destroyed the Bali Hi park- fail A pier that is falling apart- fail Beach reclamation that washes away when it rains- fail Walkway that collapses- fail
  3. My definition of "people" would apply only to farangs. LOS ain't my country, and I felt/ feel no responsibility to make their lives better, as it's their country, and their responsibility. For sure, Pattaya made a lot of Thais better off than they would have been without it and good luck to them that it did, but without happy farangs, it wouldn't have done so. Let's remember that without farangs, Pattaya today would not exist. It may no longer rely on farangs, but without them in the 80s and 90s it'd be just another <deleted> town on the coast. IMO social media has been the worst thing that happened to humanity, short of world wars and plague on the scale of 1918.
  4. I'd never say that the traffic was a nail in the coffin, but when it's un necessary to have congested traffic, it's a blight on lives, and causes massive pollution. Is it un necessary in Pattaya? Absolutely, as the administration could have prevented it, but obviously hasn't. Put traffic in the same category as floods, which could be eliminated given a competent administration, but Pattaya apparently doesn't have such. I don't need to explain why Pattaya administration doesn't solve problems, as any that care would know the reason. Hint- the word begins with "c".
  5. Just what was "bad" ( for farangs ) about Pattaya in early 90s? The great stink was gone, the beach walkway was actually pleasant to walk along, traffic was within reason given size of roads, no wanabe farangs dressed up like cops, though Walking Street had yet to eventuate, and even when it did they didn't for some years, crime against farangs was minimal, baht buses were cheap, I don't recall floods on the scale of now, Buakhao was just a narrow street somewhere, and people were mainly happy, far as I saw. While it was many years ago, my memory isn't so bad that I'd only remember the good bits. If I had any complaint about those times, it was that the bus service from Ekamai took over 4 hours and the buses were apparently rejects from other companies.
  6. Indeed. Does anyone with a life care about her butt? I only came on here to see what the fuss was about.
  7. LOL. I won't watch anything with Roberts in it now, and Clooney fell off my list of actors to watch a while back.
  8. Watched "The good nurse" this morning on Netflix. I was interested because I am one ( retired ), but all I did was pick holes in the nursing practice, so gave up. I know they are actors, but the company could have hired real nurses to advise them.
  9. Oh, so that's why my antivirus has saved me so many times, because I'm less safe! 55555555555555555555555
  10. Surprise, not. It's hardly going to be a big thing in the land of happy endings, and as said, any will probably offer to walk on one's back. I imagine any local would get wife/ daughter/ son/ gf etc to do the job, and I can't imagine many tourists arriving with any more than traditional massage in mind. As said, do it the pre internet way and look around. Good luck.
  11. LOL. Apparently Malaysian men used to come to Hat Yai to party. I wonder if 1 million refers to 1 million different people, or less that visit multiple times.
  12. The land doesn't cost 40 million, and you can get the money back after 3 years, but you knew that, didn't you? However, under rule #1 never buy property in LOS, I won't be rushing out to buy anything, even if I could.
  13. Correct. My sister had to end renting to tenants and move into the house herself as government making it too expensive and rent would have been too high for tenants to pay. She had been renting herself in a more convenient location to work.
  14. Last time about 4 years ago. Went to Penang. I doubt it's changed much.
  15. Could include a great many countries in that category. Are they all "stone age"?
  16. Patpong became more about bag shops and the horrid night market long ago, but the reputation probably lives on. It used to be great, but I stopped going there because it was just useless for Gogo, and the upstairs places were notorious for rip offs. Nana was waaaaaay better and safer.
  17. What a load of twaddle! Don't want trouble, don't punch other people- simple.
  18. I get the impression his wife is Thai, so when he talks about "taking back" I think he means "back to Thailand". I thought he meant "back to the US" at first too.
  19. How could you put a m'bike in a suitcase? You might be able to put it in a few suitcases, but the excess baggage charge would make buying one in LOS cheaper. Edit. I see that was a joke. I did once take a kitchen sink back home with me from Thailand, so thought it was being serious.
  20. I don't know if YOU have to stay overnight. I didn't one time, and another time I stayed on Penang a couple days. You'll have to find out about how long you have to stay from someone else.
  21. No, I said probably, and they don't have to have wifi. The ones I stayed at had a computer you could use, but no wifi. You could always ask on line if they have wifi. Some places I stayed at only had electricity for a few hours in the evening and no internet. If you want all that, stay on Samui and pay a lot to stay in a flash resort. Places with small huts are nice, but don't always have hot water, tv, AC or even 24 hour electricity. You get what you pay for- want mod cons...... pay more.
  22. ???????????????? I'm not saying you need to do anything- that's up to you. Going to Malaysia is easiest from Samui or Phangan. Penang is in Malaysia. Visa exempt to Malaysia is the same as visa exempt to Thailand.
  23. I said probably, and I don't understand what you mean with What is this? An explanation might help.
  24. More small huts on Phangan, nicer island, less expensive. North East has best beaches. Probably all have internet but don't know about wifi. Don't need aircon.
