  1. I do wish that farangs would realise that Thai officialdom doesn't care much about what farangs think or want. Seems some think that because they contribute a few thousand baht to the economy they deserve special treatment. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. I very much doubt that the most important thing on a Thai official's mind is how to make life easier for a few thousand long stay farangs.
  2. In all my years in LOS I never considered that immigration were concerned about what tourists want to see. I doubt they give a monkey's about what tourists want. Luckily my interactions with immigration were minimal.
  3. No I'm not American. Never even been there. My pension is from the taxpayer, and the rule applicable to me says I can't get pension outside my country if I stay away longer than 26 weeks. That worked for me as long as I was married, but costs too much if I have to pay for hotel. Being old, travel insurance costs too much to be affordable, when taking into account cost of flights and all the other expenses, and I'd never travel without it. Actually I could afford it if I didn't have to pay to stay here for the rest of the year- but obviously that's a non starter.
  4. So, despite the cops not ( apparently ) arresting you, you decided to leave LOS, in part because of one incident. I could understand if it was a regular occurrence, but I doubt that. I knew a Brit that left because he owned a restaurant and he was constantly extorted for "fees" by the cops, but those that don't own a business probably don't get hassled for such. I certainly never was. Every farang in LOS should know the rules, and by continuing to live in LOS accept those rules, willingly or not. If tourists consider carrying a passport an unacceptable inconvenience they will just go elsewhere. Up to them.
  5. 555555555555555555555 Sounds like a personal problem to me. BTW grammar police posts tend to be deleted, and quite rightly so.
  6. LOL. I took my own advice and stayed out of Thai real estate. Never bought any - or should I say I never gave any money to a Thai to buy real estate in their name. I had no problem ignoring my wife's hints that I should build a house for her.
  7. It would be relevant if he's not allowed to work on it.
  8. Yes we are gullible. 100,000 they got off easy IMO. I lost more than that to the "marry a Thai woman" scam.
  9. My last Sgt Major boss was bullying me, but rather than do something about that they posted me to a different base. He was a big part of why I resigned- that and the other lesser bullies.
  10. Brexit is done and dusted. Highly unlikely to rejoin, so accept it and move on. Moaning about it isn't going to help anything.
  11. Ever since Og discovered an old mammoth bone makes a great club.
  12. I left because I can't get the pension in Thailand ( was living there on savings ), and after I got divorced I had to pay rent which meant I couldn't afford medical insurance.
  13. So what if I don't live there now? Is that supposed to impress me? I lived there long enough to know how it is. If you had a valid point ( you don't ) the forum wouldn't have regular stories of woe such as the OP.
  14. It's not bad for those that are actual long stay. Problem is for those that don't have extendable visa and have to leave to renew a visa.
  15. Always an exception to the rule, but get back to us in 10 years and let us know how it's going.
  16. Buy a house, condo, etc and stuck with it when it goes wrong. All night karaokes move next door to houses, condos let the horde rent by the night etc. In LOS a farang basically has no rights when it goes wrong. Pay a lawyer to sort it 555555555555 As always in LOS, it's great till it's not. I've read too many tales of woe on this forum ( and TVF ) from people that left their brains at the airport. I learned the lesson very early on. I stayed at a nice resort on Chaweng Beach where a farang had built a lovely teak room for yoga classes. Went back next holiday and both farang and yoga room had vanished. Never did find out what happened, but I'll bet he didn't go voluntarily.
  17. NB I changed mosque to square. I was thinking about it being done after prayers. We were also told that we'd be pushed to the front if going there.
  18. The square where they chopped hands and heads was just down the road from where I lived. Done on Fridays after prayers. I chose not to go see. Losing a hand was a disincentive to steal, so Riyadh was very safe from theft. Could safely walk around with enough cash to buy a new car.
  19. I've never not had enough money when I need it. I don't care if you go cashless as long as I can use real money. Plenty on here saying that their way is the only way- they ain't the only people on earth. baaaaa.
  20. Yeah, lets bring back stoning for adultery.
  21. Last time I went it was horrible, but that was when the horde was in Pattaya. Without them it's probably OK now. I took the ferry directly to/ from the beach, so didn't need to take a vehicle to get there.
  22. Just don't get scammed onto the wrong boat. I was and regretted it. The ferry doesn't charge a lot.
  23. Other than pointing out you don't have to pay large for the dinner- can go to ordinary resto ( never got the point of paying large to eat with people I don't know, but up to you ) have you considered that they have to make as much as possible in high season to tide them over the low season? Nothing unusual about that.
  24. Have you considered that they WANT you to have to jump through hoops if you don't qualify for a non O? Once upon a time they wanted us to stay in LOS, but no longer, IMO.
