That reminds me of when I lived in Greece and my wife boiled a kettle full of Raki. It was given to us in a water bottle from one of the locals.

Asking for a friend whose pension is not frozen. Would the DWP become suspicious if it was witnessed in Thailand. -
Thai children losing out on height due to too little milk
keithkarmann replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Many times I have refused to eat with my Thai wife's family out of a big bowl in the middle of the floor. Never saw anyone wash their hand before delving into the bowl. What are knives and forks? -
Thai children losing out on height due to too little milk
keithkarmann replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not just losing out with height. Mathematics was drilled into children when I was at school and now in Thailand teenagers have no idea about adding, minus, multiplication and division. Times tables are forever in my old brain. Will have to give our six year old daughter extra tuition at least with maths, yesterday she learnt from me the difference between 2 + 5 and 2 × 5, to her both equations came to 7. -

Should I have hernia done in private or public hospital
keithkarmann replied to ubonr1971's topic in Health and Medicine
Had my hernia operation done at Si Samrong public hospital (Sukhothai province) 16 months ago. In hospital for five nights due to getting my blood pressure down for the operation. The bill was a grand total of 18900 baht. I could not fault the care ( but I have been used to care in a Greek hospital) and I would not have a problem going there again. Not sure if the operation is comparable with what you need but my hernia was very close to the belly button. I have been told that at a private hospital it would have been closer to 100,000 baht. -

I understand that if you move to another residence for a day or two that the Immigration have to be informed. What is the procedure if you move permanently to another residence. At the moment I am living with my Thai wife in a house that we built but of course it is in my wife's name. So my wife has to be involved when I renew my extention of stay. Now we are moving to a house that is rented in my wife's name. So we now have a landlord. I guess a trip to the new Immigration is needed but do we need to get documents from the landlord or can my wife accompany me with the lease document? Also do we need to inform our present Immigration office or our planned move. Thanks in advance for your helpfull replies.

UK tax status if permanent move to Thailand
keithkarmann replied to keithkarmann's topic in UK & Europe Topics and Events
Several things will probably make keeping my UK residency difficult. My passport will have to be renewed from within Thailand (arousing suspicion that I am not in the UK) and also I am finding it more difficult to keep a residential address in the UK. By declaring that I have just moved to Thailand it would be less likely that previous pension rises would be knocked off if the UK pensions thought I had moved years ago without declaring the fact. Yes I realise I would not get any more increases which would be a big blow if the future rises followed the triple lock formula with high inflation.
