  1. Look here http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/881743-public-holidays-2016/

But the answer to your question, they are closed May 2nd

.....although there seems some alternative opinions....http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/913361-immigration-closed-days/

Thanks for that, I always thought that when on the Thaivisa Calendar the days are RED then everything is closed.

Thanks again, I will edit my original post

Believe next time I will use a different color for observed days, which is what I put labor day under, and full government holidays.

But yes, immigration will be open on Monday. My May list of holidays posted in the Chiang Mai forum - May holidays

  2. Largish storm just now by passing Mae Rim, perhaps further South will see some rain tonight.

Got dark fast and lot of rolling thunder in Mae Hia now. Forecast 20% rain coverage tomorrow or Saturday.

  3. Closed for these holidays.

2 May (Monday) Labor Day Observed

    5 May (Thursday) Coronation Day

6 May (Friday) Coronation Day Extra Day

UbonJ - Heikiki's post indicates 4,5 closed. You say 5,6. Which ones right? Thanks

    Sorry I meant Tywais' post

I posted a calendar from last year in that post as an example showing immigration not closing on Labor day. I removed it now due to the confusion and it is 5th and 6th this year for Coronation day & extra day.

  4. Government offices in Thailand do not observe Mayday AFAIK. But perhaps time has passed me by?

That is why I placed 'observed' on it. It is observed by the public sector at the discretion of the company or business. From a post I made last year.

It is not a government holiday as immigration is open and government schools are open (my school has never closed for labor day in the many years working there). It is a banking holiday and private companies/businesses may let their employees off as it is labor day.

Although the annual, May 1st, National Labour Day non-working public holiday of Thailand is not observed by the Government sector of Thailand

  5. Less than 60 Baht for 10 batteries?

Have not had such for many decades and do not have a use for it but suspect these days there is an phone app that can do?

"RealCalc" for Android on my phone.

Just one of many I guess.

Yep. That's one of the rare apps that I actually bought. Use it nearly daily. I do have a scientific calculator and the batteries died a long time ago. My wife was needing one, wants the larger keys and display, so found batteries for it at Homepro.

  6. Just take the total bill charge and divide it by the number of units (kwh). That will get you the price per unit all inclusive including FT/VAT/Service fee. Or take the base charge without the FT/VAT, should be the first line of listed costs, and divide by total units. That will be the base cost per unit.

This is an older topic asking how to read the MEA bill but not sure if the current format is the same now. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/732461-how-to-read-an-mea-electricity-bill/

//edit - the base cost is not fixed as it is on a sliding scale and will vary based on usage.

  7. All the links on http://www.vientianetimes.la/Lao_Eng_laws.htm seem to be broken. I keep getting 404 error messages. If someone could attach the relevant pdfs here, that would be great.

I am aware of Laos not officially recognizing dual citizenship. But how would they know if the kid has more than 1 citizenship? I would presume you would first secure the Laos nationality paperwork first, then seek additional nationalities if you qualify?

I was able to access it through a VPN and all the pdf links work that way. The actual link on that page is #10, Law on Lao Nationality. Attached it here.

    10. Law on Lao Nationality (2004) Eng.pdf

Another one that may be of use:

    65. Law on the Protection of the Rights of Children (2006) Eng.pdf
