I spent five weeks in Dalat, Vietnam, during this past March and April. While I was there, I saw a modern-looking eye hospital, so I stopped by to get my eyes checked for cataracts. The eye test cost me the equivalent of 220 baht, and the result was that I don't need cataract surgery just yet. However, the doctor said I should continue testing myself every year because I will eventually need the surgery. So I took the opportunity to enquire about the cost of the cataract surgery there, and it ranged from about $1,000 per eye up to $2,000 per eye for the newest, fanciest lenses. The doctor told me that he does cataract surgeries every day, so I would feel comfortable having the surgery done there when my time comes. This is the website of the hospital: https://matsaigondalat.com And here is the price list, which I photographed when I was there. Everything is in Vietnamese, but you can see the names of each kind of lens in English - and research them based on that. Right now there are about 25,000 Vietnamese dong to the US dollar.

Yes, you can use Grab from the airport. I did it about a month ago and it cost me the equivalent of about five US dollars to get from the airport to the center of the city. Otherwise there are (cheap) buses from the airport to the city, which is an option if you are staying somewhere where the buses pass. Speaking of buses, there is a fantastic app for buses in Saigon called "Bus Map". It tells you the routes, which buses stop at the bus stops near you, when the next bus will arrive, etc. But Grab is both good and cheap. Once you settle in to your hotel and you don't have a lot of luggage to carry around, you might consider using the Grab motorbikes, which are also plentiful and very cheap.

This is the obvious question, but we won't get an official answer - because the answer is also obvious. -
Suvarnabhumi airport and phone check

If I were a dictator, you're exactly the kind of person I would want to have as my subjects: people who believe that they have no rights - and don't deserve them either. -
Suvarnabhumi airport and phone check

It's one thing to search a person's bags for contraband such as drugs and weapons, etc., (which I agree they have the right to do). It's an altogether different matter to search their phones (and computers) for whatever it is they are looking for there. -

Still, all of that stuff is none of their business. The right to privacy is a fundamental human right.- 37 replies

YOU might think that you have nothing to hide. But it all depends on what they are looking for. In any case, this is a gross violation of privacy. It is unacceptable.- 37 replies

I use cash for 90% of my transactions - deliberately. The only things I pay by bank transfer are my rent, my internet, and my electricity bill - for MY convenience. I don't object to cashless payments being an option - as long as I get to choose how to make the payment. The obvious intention, though, is to woo us with the convenience of digital payments, then to switch to digital payments being the only option. At that point, we are slaves - because if you are a dissenter, the government can just switch off your ability to use your own money. China is already an example of that. And don't think that every other government in the world would not love to do the same thing.

Cancel the policy. If they are lying to you before you even get the policy, what do you think they will do later, when you need them? Find another company - one that doesn't lie quite as blatantly.

I used this company when I moved from Bangkok to Saigon some years ago, as well as for two local moves within Saigon. They were extremely professional with the packing and moving and unpacking. And they also have an option for insurance. You can find the details on their website at the following link: https://www.santaferelo.com/en/your-thailand-moving-company/

This is the bag that I have been using for the past year. It's very light, yet very sturdy. And quite spacious. So far I am quite satisfied with it. https://www.lazada.co.th/products/eagle-creek-expanse-2-wheeled-intl-carryon-2-215-i4476512219-s18079138286.html
