In the UK the incidence of asthma in kids has hugely increased over the last 25 years.  I think the modern day over-sanitised environment is producing a generation of sickly people.

If you google the cause of asthma... scientists dont know.

I imagine that unhealthy chemicals in food production, water supply, and medicines coupled with radiation from all sorts of devices..cant be right.    If I ramble on, I will be accused of being 'conspiracy nut'.

I am speaking as someone who grew up with both a chain-smoking mother and a chain-smoking father.

So with the significant reduction of smoking in the US, particularly in homes with children, has there been a corresponding reduction.in the incidence of asthma in 20-30 year-olds?

Probably not, but after 36 years of research [age of my eldest] I discover, that kids are just getting fatter.

It's funny, before I left the radio went wrong and it needs to be replaced but I didn't have time to get it done.  When I got back and mentioned it again my wife said "Buy a new car".

A nice idea but it's a case of having the money.  If I was just replacing it then that's possible but there's nothing really wrong with it other than is not suited to some of the roads I have to drive on and something bigger is a bit expensive.

After 7 years get the wife tested and buy a new one, a bit smaller and less expensive.

The location Pattaya, not 50 years ago whem doctors smoked. The morning i referred to lowlifes i had wine hangover and was coughing from second hand smoke at entrance to Central/Tops supermarket. From lowlife cigarette smokers.

A team of scientists led by Professor Ulrich John, of the University Medicine Greifswald, Germany, has shown that alcohol consumption is more dangerous than cigarettes.

The research followed 149 alcohol-dependent adults for 14 years and showed:

Alcoholics die 20 years earlier than the general public

People dependent on alcohol live shorter lives than do smokers,

Women are at much greater risk of death than men: Alcohol-dependent women suffer death at a rate 4.6 times higher than average.

Heavy drinking will generally kill more quickly than smoking

Results were published in Alcoholism: Clinical & Experimental Research

Also, a certain percentage of drinkers get violent, unreasonable, and...............grumpy!

I find your comment rather strange calling smokers low-life....

Why do you think smokers are low-life....?

    Plus Winston Churchill...

As I'm a smoker, I hope he isn't referring to me, but I think he means smokers that smoke in  restaurants..I notice that the celebrities in the slides are all smoking outside, which is fair enough.

[I guess your Transam beats my Mercedes sidecar].

I had a friend who used to do it back when Thailand was wide open. I found it absolutely disgusting and avoided eating with him, but this kind of behavior was fairly common before smoking in restaurants became against the law. Anyway, he died at a fairly young age and I've always thought that smoking non-stop is probably what caused it. RIP.

In Pattaya there are too many causes of death... hopefully balanced by too many causes of happiness.

    Sorry for your friend.

Yes, invest in your own life! It is difficult enough to do that in a safe / intelligent way.

Aiming for a high "Return on Investment" by investing in the rest of the world is just greed, and dangerous too. It is a lottery.

Yep, the 'casino' is designed to get your cash.

"For gold conjures up a mist about a man, more destructive of all his old senses and lulling to his feelings than the fumes of charcoal." Charles Dickens.

    "Spend it and enjoy". Me.

The gold standard only worked as long as people believed in the fairytale about notes being convertible to gold.

They never were.... not if many wanted to convert their notes.

Banking is based on trust. Trust is based on trustworthy institutions and their managers / governments. Trust ended a long time ago.

Besides, even centuries ago, what do you think happened when new rich gold deposits (as in mines)  were discovered? Gold down, silver up.... next new silver found, and back to gold, next ..... etc.

I certainly do not pretend to have the answers, but at least I know that I don't have the answers - therefore I know more than all those famous experts combined.

I have to agree with you. My way of dealing with the situation is to invest in my kids and a good woman..and a bit of fun.   Always skint and happy.
