  1. Yes. Assisting the crime by not reporting it. But he's a community leader and is therefore to be respected no matter what, the same as teachers. The culture, treating people due to their position or how they dress, is many decades behind many other countries.
  2. Any more recent examples than one case that happened 46 years ago? And care to say where you're from and how many times that you've read of teachers sexually abusing students there and it being covered up. It's a regular feature in Thai news - and that's only the cases that come to light.
  3. It's the culture, isn't it. How many times have we read of teachers assaulting pupils, sexually or otherwise? How many times have we read of it being covered up? How many times have we read of the teacher being jailed?
  4. Seems the people there dealt with the situation perfectly. Alert resident, staff responded positively and they even had a fire extinguisher handy. Excellent.
  5. But of course. We would expect nothing else.
  6. Thais have an amazing ability to kill themselves with no reason to it at all. Long straight multi-lane road, daylight, dry surface, enormous lorry - yet still too difficult for some to survive the 'challenge'. Extraordinary.
  7. He didn't say all, did he? He was, I'm sure, responding to those involved in the latest episode of youths fighting in the streets. He also didn't claim that failed parents is Thailand-unique. He was referring to Thai kids as this is a site about Thailand. We all know that kids and others attack each other, often for imagined reasons or no reason at all, all over the world. What happens elsewhere is off-topic and nothing to do with this thread.
  8. What does 'mostly illegal' mean? They aren't, actually. It is illegal to ride in them though.
  9. Obviously you aren't aware that they are only illegal to ride in. Not that that makes any difference in Thailand, of course. I've more than once seen little kids sitting up in them waiting to be killed as their guardian rolls the dice.
  10. One of the reasons that some foreigners come to Thailand is because they feel they don't have to obey the rules as they have to at home. Don't wear a helmet in my native UK and you'd be hauled over. In Thailand, most of the time it's ignored by law enforcers. Some foreigners like that - until they're laying in a pool of blood with their brain spilled out.
  11. What an extraordinary rant about someone you don't know and have never met and know nothing about. Lots of accusations, abuse, assumptions and statements given as fact. According to you: 1 - I don't have a clue what I'm talking about 2 - I know nothing about childhood development 3 - I would not want to learn 4 - I am guilty of confirmation bias 5 - The reasons for the above are in my childhood experiences 6 - I am not capable of discussing the issue 7 - I would not be capable of absorbing your superior knowledge 8 - You disagree with my point of view so I'm an idiot (thrown at me twice) 9 - I am confused 10 - I don't want to learn 11 - My childhood has led to my perversions (ie not agreeing with you) What an extraordinary person you are, to make so many statements about someone you actually know nothing about. Now, I wonder why what I wrote touched such a nerve? I could make assumptions of course, but I don't know you and have never met you and I know nothing about you. So I'll just leave it there. I see, though, that I am not the only person that you insulted. It appears you have serious issues. Again, I could speculate why that might be but I don't make accusations and assumptions about someone I don't know. That would be arrogant and stupid. Wouldn't it.
  12. You make some valid points. What it comes down to, often, is that anyone is allowed to be a parent whether they are suited to that role or not, no qualifications needed.
  13. You are assuming they are foreign tourists. I doubt very much that they are. Now, are the police going to arrest those who rent the bluetooth speakers, as doing that is against the law.
  14. I would dispute that, although evil is perhaps too strong a word. Kids bully others in school all the time. Where do they learn that from? They are born with the desire to hurt others. Fortunately, most grow out of it. Others don't, but restrict their hate to social media posts. Humans instinctively don't like fellow humans. A simple example is not wanting someone to sit next to you on a bus. Being close to others of their species make them uncomfortable.
  15. Well, the perpetrators would keep that pretty quiet, wouldn't they? Unless they are Thai, in which case they'd broadcast their plans on Facebook and TikTok.
  16. It might work, for the reasons given, as Thailand would only provide the facility for others to use. If Thailand was planning to launch its own rockets and satellites - er, no.
  17. Third report in three days of monks not behaving like monks should act. Well, the way non-Thai monks act anyway. Thai monk diffrunt mista. No need follow rools.
  18. Just a week or two ago we had a report here of someone knifing his neighbour to death because he turned off the wi-fi that the killer was piggybacking on (the murdered neighbour had given permission, but he was killed anyway). And now someone trying to burn their neighbour's house down because his music was too loud. The usual massive over-reaction, the usual total lack of self-control, that we see so often here.
  19. My dogs start up at 5.45am when the local daily newscast begins with some awful music.
  20. Follows on from another monk behaving badly report yesterday. And aren't monks forbidden from driving anyway? Once again, there is Buddhism and there is Thai Buddhism, and there is little similarity in the two.
  21. Another motorcyclist who believes the law doesn't apply to him. Four-lane road, no divider so not even that as an excuse. Just the law isn't for me and he dies as a result. Up to him, I suppose. Seems he took another victim with him, though. When people I know overseas have asked me if Thais drive on the left or the right I've replied 'yes'.
  22. And, often, what the victim was wearing. As for the registration number, a few weeks ago they blurred it out in the photo but mentioned it in the report. Idiots.
  23. I don't know how long you've been in Thailand but, often, Thais do not have kids to take care of them. Thais have kids so that, when they get old, the kid will take care of them. I suppose it stems from Thailand having no welfare system to speak of, and people do not pay into anything to get a decent pension when they are too old to work. But this can have serious consequences. Kids are often palmed off to grandparents to raise, people who might be struggling to take care of themselves let alone a boisterous child. There is also little or no discipline administered, or if there is it is ignored, and so you end with with entitled little $hits who think they can do what they want. Different culture to us, different needs.
