  1. I wonder if she goes on the internet and asks what she should do about you. Maybe you're not hansum like before and she's tired of you criticising her. Works both ways.
  2. I am always amazed how Thais advertise illegal services on social media. Usually selling prostitutes, but sometimes selling guns, arranging street races etc.
  3. In Thailand it doesn't really matter who the people vote for, does it. If the 'wrong' party wins then they are not allowed to form the government.
  4. Very funny. We received almost no mail for 18 months, and it eventually transpired that the postman thought that actually delivering the mail was too much work so he burned it. Not just mine, but that of those in several villages in the area. Was he arrested? No. He was close to retirement so he just left, no doubt on full pension. He was replaced by a member of our family so now we are certain to receive our mail. I read of another postman who simply took all the mail home with him and kept it in a cupboard.
  5. Street stabbings in the UK are not indiscriminate but almost always linked to black gang wars. But it isn't PC to say so. Most of the few black people in Thailand appear to restrict themselves to 'substance retail activities' around lower Sukhumvit and there are none of the gangs that exist in the UK. That is why you don't get street stabbings. Gangs in Thailand are largely confined to students from rival colleges trying to kill each other. As for wives beating husbands in the UK, how many result in murder, as jealous male action does on a daily basis in Thailand? There is no comparison.
  6. I rarely read of it happening in my native UK. Certainly not on a daily basis. What about your country?
  7. I don't think they see it as a solution. I think that, often, they see it as revenge for making them lose face. Stage two thinking, that it will result in them losing even more face by spending years in jail, is way beyond their capabilities.
  8. The financial meltdown was caused by Bangkok Bank of Commerce (BBK), which made huge unsecured loans to its friends, and that led to the crisis. It is the only time in living memory that Thailand has had an influence on the outside world. A pity it was such a negative one - except for us who were here and suddenly found the value of our homeland currency had doubled. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/bangkok-bank-of-commerce-embezzlement-scandal-ends-with-conviction-of-financier-rakesh-saxena/
  9. True. Rose-coloured glasses largely remain intact for short-term visitors. For anyone intending to stay long-term I advise that, first, they spend a few weeks reading the English-language media and, if possible, watch Thai tv 'dramas', in which actresses have passed their audition by demonstrating that they can scream louder than the others. Then, if they still want to come long-term, I wish them good luck and offer the name of a good psychiatrist.
  10. Just today's tale of a spurned Thai male not taking rejection well. There was one yesterday, there'll another tomorrow and another the day after that.
  11. I'm delighted that he was able to fly to attend the birthday party of one of Asia's several dictators and hope that his medical check-up that prevents him flying to Thailand goes well.
  12. How is it that the Party that once represented the poor now links with billionaires and supporters of the army? And with barely a whimper from their supporters.
  13. So we could have a PM who despises foreigners, as proven by his historic rantings against us. Doesn't bode well at all.
  14. What you write, and anything to do with translation, is irrelevant to the fact that the reporter didn't bother finding out. I've been a journalist for over 40 years and know when someone is doing a proper job and when they are not. If I wrote that something was not clear then my editor would tell me to find out then. You know, ask questions instead of being too lazy to do so.
  15. I've worked with Thai journalists, and not one of them would last a week in the real world.
  16. It was not immediately clear if the original complaint against the cannabis shop had been filed by the neighbour who had suffered alleged damage..... and our reporter didn't bother to find out.
  17. The headline says they surrendered. They did not. They were arrested after they re-entered Thailand and immigration alerted the local police. Another report says that they were arrested by Malaysian police. So, the usual Thai standard of journalism where no-one seems to bother checking the facts. So take your pick. They 1 - surrendered 2 - were arrested by Thai police 3 - were arrested by Malaysian police
  18. It's common for the less educated Thais to come up with an excuse that a five year old would make, but you'd expect something else from someone like him. Pathetic. Next, it'll be that the doctor says he isn't fit to travel and his return is delayed - again - indefinitely.
  19. Yet another quality tourist.
  20. As far as I know, they relented only for the Songkran holiday two or three years ago when the people demanded the right to risk their life. Now it's illegal but, like every law, it isn't enforced and so people die. I wonder what poor people do in other countries.
  21. It doesn't matter what I think. What matters is what he wants.
  22. Shush! Thais are very proud of their culture and that their country is the best in the world with people who know everything and are never wrong.
  23. Why should I care what you believe. I know that I did, but thank you for your pointless comment.
