Time has no relevance in the digital world. No-one physically approves the transfer. That's very last century. My own experience is that it arrives within seconds, even before the email saying the transfer is on its way, or it can take a few hours. I make monthly transfers, either at 10pm Thai time when banks here are closed, or around eight in the morning Thai time when the UK banks are closed. Makes no difference.

PayPal no longer available to foreigners in Thailand
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I have no idea. I never use ebay and rarely use PayPal. Did you ask them why they 'divorced'? Did you read why? Aren't they both owned by Microsoft? -
I once had to argue being allowed to take a domestic flight after I showed up with my passport but not the credit card I'd booked the flight with. A supervisor was called and it was only because I was a gold card member that she, reluctantly, allowed me onto the plane at the last minute. So I very much doubt that a paper copy of anything would be accepted.

PayPal no longer available to foreigners in Thailand

Well, many of us have commented on this site about the emails they have been receiving over the past year about this. Strange that you haven't received any. Is the email contact address you gave them still valid? -
PayPal no longer available to foreigners in Thailand

PayPal have stated very clearly in their emails why they are taking the steps they are, more than once. They did discuss with the Thai government over the past year ways to mitigate the new law and we originally were told that private individuals could continue as usual and the rule would only apply to companies. Then - surprise surprise - the government did a U-turn and blocked that. -
How long is the visa marriage for?
Bangkok Barry replied to topswijaya's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
But you also have to report yourself to the immigration police every 90 days, as if you are on probation. In person or on-line. For some, on-line works well but others have found complications. I've been married to a Thai for nearly 32 years, same rules apply no matter what. In contrast, my sister-in-law has gone to live with her Dutch husband in Hungary and has a five year visa, no annual renewal, no 90 day reports. She is welcome there, in Thailand we are tolerated, nothing more. -

I doubt that. It is not what has been said in any communication I've had from PayPal, and to log into your account you now need a Thai ID card. Where did you read otherwise, please? -
PayPal no longer available to foreigners in Thailand
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I've used it a few times a year to order things, such as tea from Ireland and for software bought on-line. Now I'll just use a credit or debit card. It's just another example of the hammer to crack a nut attitude we see so often in Thailand. Financially, it began with having to present a passport to buy a stored value card for the BTS. Money laundering was spouted as the reason, but I doubt very much that money launderers who deal in millions used a BTS card to move money around. -

You are misinformed. This has nothing at all to do with PayPal. It has everything to do with new demands by the Thai government. PayPal is merely abiding by them, doing as it's told by the government. Do you really think that PayPal voluntarily wants to lose customers?- 169 replies

Has the world gone woke or mad

I watch a lot of UK tv series, and it is absolutely guaranteed that there will be a mixed race couple, a lesbian or homosexual relationship (or both), and a single parent. It's like they have to tick those boxes in order to get permission and finance to make the shows. The shows should surely reflect society as a whole, but they always show the 'extreme' edges and make that appear to be what is common and normal. It's exactly the same with tv commercials, if not more so. -
I'm not sure what influence the booze monopolies have in government decision making, despite what you and others suggest. Surely they would want to open up the market to longer hours, not hinder them. And what about during the pandemic, when the government banned all alcohol sales for a long period of time, even in restaurants, backed up by police raids. Restricting small brewers from setting up is another matter entirely, but I just cannot see the major players wanting to restrict hours of selling.

Is that not the same as using your Bkk Bank Debit (ATM) card? As said in earlier posts, a CREDIT card is to spend money you DO NOT have. A DEBIT card uses your own money and takes it from your bank account. I guess so. I've never used my BKK card for anything other than the ATM as I have a UK Visa card. I just asked them in case access to my UK Visa card was ended for some reason, similar to the way we aliens are being cut out of PayPal. The bank didn't say anything about my BKK card actually being a credit (Visa, as requested as it was not their default option), which of course it is. I'll ask them next time I'm getting the letter from them for immigration what my limit is. It's possible it was only an ATM card and nothing else back when I asked about a credit card. As I wrote, it was a while back. I do know that at the time some banks would only issue a credit card to you if you had a work permit. They gave me the minimum in the account - 100,000 for 100,000 credit - option which seemed sensible.

Under construction illegal luxury casino raided in Pattaya
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Pattaya News
Not really. Happens all the time in Thailand. Money makes anything become invisible to the right people. -
A place I stay at in Bangkok has increased its room charge by 300% since August, so I think they've worked out how to help themselves without this guy's help. And perhaps this billionaire needs to be reminded that everyone, not just the hotel industry, is struggling with 'high inflation and rising costs of raw materials, wages, energy, and fuel prices'.

Coming up to 32 years for me, and yet again I have to go to immigration this month to pay the government for permission to 'visit' her. Fill in the same forms, produce the same documents, prepare photos that prove nothing. My sister-in-law has gone to live with her Dutch husband in Hungary. Five-year visa, no 90 day reports, no visit by immigration police, no filling in forms every year. Just a welcome, thank you for coming to our country to make your life and spend money to support our economy. But in Thailand you are an alien and always will be, tolerated but never welcome.
