Young German Man Displays Anti-Prawit Photo In Rayong
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Eastern Thailand
They did. They protested in thousands before the pandemic and brought traffic to a standstill in Bangkok and were attacked by their fellow Thais firing water cannons with irritant chemicals mixed with the water. Before that, their protests resulted in the army taking over, and the legacy of that continues to this day. You can't fight a government with inflatable ducks and mobile phone lights. Nor with a protest photo. I have no idea what this foreigner expects to achieve other than possible deportation or a jail term for 'causing unrest' and being a 'threat to national security'. He's an idiot. Also selfish, as he says he doesn't care if he is deported. Where does that leave his wife? -
Kids left on school vans: New RTP chief orders a crackdown
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thanks for your pointless research. Pointless, as this is a forum about Thailand and that this problem happened in Thailand - again. No-one at all has suggested that it only happens in Thailand. It isn't 'Thai-bashing'. It's a news item raised originally by Thai media for Thai citizens, and it quite rightly points out a flaw in the system - again - which resulted in a death - again. But you seem to have a problem with it being revealed and discussed. I have no idea why you invented the idea that we are saying in only happens in Thailand. -
There is one. I used it and they told me to call the tourist police. I called the tourist police and they told me to call the taxi reporting number. What the authorities should do, if they were actually interested instead of just saying they are, is to get soldiers out of the barracks were they do who knows what all day, dress them in civvies, and let them go to the places where everyone knows the drivers refuse to use the meter or take the passenger at all, and then arrest them when they illegally turn down the fare. And not just for a couple of hours on one day, as they used to do pre-Covid. The word would soon get around and then Bangkok, and elsewhere in Thailand, might have a taxi service that matches what operates in much of the real world. Of course, other countries have taxi problems, and it depends if Thailand wants to be among the worst or the best. Of course that won't happen, as those who make such decisions don't take taxis so they don't care.

They might have more custom if they didn't refuse customers and did their job, which is give customers the ride they ask for. You know, like in the real world. Those same customers want to give you money, which you refuse. The concept of a customer paying you to take them where they want to go shouldn't be too difficult to understand, even for a poorly educated taxi driver.

Kids left on school vans: New RTP chief orders a crackdown
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You missed this bit One teacher was driving and another seated in the furthest back row was looking after the children. In Thailand it clearly makes no difference if you have what you suggest or not. It requires said Shotgun to be able to count, which is obviously asking too much. -
Accidents such as these have been reported regularly in the Thai press this year for many, many years, with victims usually being motorcyclists, and despite the risk to life nothing is done and nor is it expected that anything will be done because no-one cares about the quality of work that they do. There. Corrected it.

Err, if they need your bank account info, meaning they don't already have it, how do they know it's a fraudulent account? Simple question to ask them, and then they'll hang up. Simples.

Thailand 300 baht entry fee for tourists set to start in early 2023
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I don't get upset about 300 baht on a ticket that costs thousands. And it isn't as if Thailand is unique. I used to have to pay cash going into and then again when leaving Bali. And the tax imposed on international travellers at UK airports is huge. Thousands of baht in some cases. I imagine many other countries also impose a similar tax. -
What happens is that the kid learns of bullying and later in life passes it on down the line, bullying supposed inferiors. You can see it in action from many who wear a uniform and make life as difficult as possible for those they are meant to serve, Thais and foreigners alike. It is largely based on Thailand's archaic social ladder system, where everyone must know their place and bow and scrape to their 'superiors'. They fight back by bullying others, which gives them a greater feeling of self-esteem.

Thai govt reaffirms ban on e-cigarettes, vaping
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Exactly. Every law in Thailand is ignored and rarely enforced, so why should the e-cig law be any different? I've watched many videos on YouTube centred around Thai nightspots, and countless people are vaping - strangely, only women, although maybe the person filming only concentrates on them ???? and the men do it too. -
Thailand 300 baht entry fee for tourists set to start in early 2023

Do you really think that a 300 baht hidden charge added to the price of an airline ticket will stop anyone coming to Thailand? Really? -
Thailand 300 baht entry fee for tourists set to start in early 2023

Anyone flying frequently on business is probably well enough off not to miss 300 baht a few times a month. -

In my experience, you have to give passport info when booking. Been like that for years. -
This is simply the Thai system in action. He has spoken, made his recommendations, and his job is done. Anything that happens later is not his responsibility. You, I, he and everyone else knows that what is said will be ignored and is unenforceable, but that is not the point. He has acted, done what he considers to be his job, while actually doing nothing. This happens all the time, at least once a week. Someone makes a declaration and the next day it's ignored and forgotten. But that person has done their job by 'acting'.

...another Thai man also appearing to join the fight, although it was unclear why..... Then another Thai man who appeared to be a street vendor got involved and hurled a red, steel chair at the foreigner Perfectly normal in Thailand. See a foreigner in an altercation and join in against him, regardless of who might be right or wrong and it being nothing at all to do with those who join in. And all over just a few Baht.

Bangkok Braces for Northern Runoff, High Tide
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Anyone in government preparing for this? Like helping 10,000,000+ people and businesses to relocate? No, I thought not. -
Few in Thailand have any respect for the law - including the police, obviously - because with no enforcement the laws are ignored. The police must be at least partly responsible for tens of thousands of road deaths and injuries a year because of the lack of enforcement. And, bearing in mind that statistics say that around two people an hour die on Thai roads, and 80% are on bikes, this case is just one of the results of non-enforcement and, in this case, the irresponsibility of a parent.

I was arguing about this with my wife today. She said if you don't want to see it then don't go out. How can you possibly communicate with a race that firmly believes they are in danger of catching Covid while on a bike, but not of having their head crushed in an accident as they have no helmet. You simply can't. They live on a different planet. The only pandemic now is a facemask pandemic.

Verdict on Prayut’s tenure in 30 days soonest
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Same as expired US Presidents are still addressed as President. What is said sometimes doesn't reflect reality. It's a strange world.
