  1. The article doesn't say that he was passing it, but 'he swerved to the right to miss a motorcycle with sidecar.' That suggests to me that the motorcycle was going the wrong way, perfectly normal in Thailand where which side of the road you drive on is optional, especially if you are on a motorcycle. If that is the case then the motorcyclist needs to be prosecuted for causing death by reckless driving. But I'd guess he/she just vanished from the scene. Or, I might be wrong.
  2. For a start, from earlier today: A Kyrgyzstani woman fell to death at a hotel in the Pattaya area after noon today (September 16th). Perhaps you didn't read of that, nor the other reports that often appear on this site. Now you'll tell me to define 'often' ????
  3. I should add that she will no doubt be 'dealt with' by her fellow prisoners anyway as those sentenced to death are, for a reason unknown to me, appear to be kept on 'death row' for years before the sentence is carried out.
  4. Thailand is a Buddhist country in name only. Temples are run solely as a business and it is abundantly clear that with the level of violence reported daily on this site there is far too often little no no respect for life of any kind.
  5. Life in prison means that she would suffer - if she survived long when faced with fellow prisoners who would know what she'd done. The death penalty is the easy way out for her. Painless.
  6. It would stop her doing it again though, upon a third child.
  7. The report says that only very small amounts were taken, which obviously added up over the years, and it was only when larger sums went missing that she knew for sure that someone was stealing from her.
  8. I wouldn't expect you to agree with my post. You never do. It was just suggested as a possibility.
  9. Why? New kid in school. Perfect for bullying.
  10. Thais and no doubt people of other Asian nations will probably wear a mask until the day they die - and then in some cases it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the body is taken to the temple still masked up.
  11. Reminds me of a case not long ago in the UK where a woman who was suing a colleague for sexual harassment included in her list of accusations that he smiled at her without permission.
  12. Depends how you define luxury. That most certainly does not apply to any train service in Thailand, except for the Orient Express if that still operates after Covid.
  13. My wife wears a mask even while driving alone in the pickup, but refuses to get a booster/4th dose. Just another total lack of common sense that is such a part of life here. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some bodies are given a mask when they're put into the incinerator at the temples.
  14. Being killed or seriously injured on the roads. It's nearly happened already when I was simply standing by the road outside my house and a pickup roared up behind me, so close I felt the heat of the engine, and so far over on the wrong side of the road as he overtook someone he was racing that he was on the 'motorbike lane'. With a reported 1,000,000 injured on the roads each year it can only be a matter of time.
  15. I would have thought that being able to cope with stress is a vital part of being in the armed forces. Goes with the job if you're called into action. Of course, the Thai army only has to deal with fighting off unarmed fellow citizens with water cannon, so perhaps there's no stress involved in the job in Thailand.
  16. An ideal job for the police as they don't need to leave their office. Check missing persons and take it from there. Assuming she wasn't an undocumented immigrant then that shouldn't take long, and assuming that the police actually have such a database and are able to link to each other outside of their own province.
  17. That's my policy. I buy t-shirts and shorts, rarely pay more than 200 baht. They look good for a few wears, and when they don't I replace them. Actually, I never wear a shirt at home - my way of saving the environment as then no washing needs to be done ????
  18. While on the subject of marriage extension renewal, mine is due to be made in November but I might need to leave the country on business during my approval period. When I did my 90 day report this week I - or my wife, in Thai so there was no misunderstanding - asked if that would be a problem and the officer said that I could not leave the country during the approval period. Surely that can't be right. I'm not allowed to leave Thailand? Really? Or is this yet another example of an IO making up his own rules. I am aware that I would need to get a re-entry permit when leaving. If I'm allowed to. .
  19. Just because you're reading it today does not mean that it was published today. The article is from yesterday afternoon. Asean Now sent it in today's headlines email. I have no idea why they would do that.
  20. If there are then the courts will find a reason to ban them, as has happened before. As you say, the corruption is massive, systemic and beyond belief. Thailand might have a few tall shiny glass buildings, but it's still a banana - that word again - republic at heart and likely will be for many years to come.
  21. Multiple tattoos, formally worked at a karaoke bar and already 'retired' at the age of 19, married very early at 17, spends nights with a 'friend', picked up by a Cambodian 'friend' at 4am. Hmm. While the husband's away.... Maybe she told her 'friend' that her husband was returning from the south and that didn't go down well.
  22. Yesterday's forecast today, proudly brought to you by......
  23. More importantly, why don't they show every night bodies crushed and mangled in road accidents, alongside their none-stop same story every day soaps.
  24. My wife leaves supermarket receipts and other stuff on the counter when there is a bin there beside it. Difficult to fathom, but I just let it go.
