  1. They behave like this because Thailand still has the class and hierarchy system that my native UK had in the Middle Ages. Everyone is made to know their place on the ladder almost from birth, meaning that everyone in the country has to bow to a 'superior'. That often results in bullying, and when people in Thailand get a job with a uniform that gives them the opportunity to 'avenge' their bullying by bullying others.
  2. They put so many obstacles in my way, maybe seeking an incentive to do their job, that I walked out. Of course, my wife with me still offered them a wai for taking the pi** at us, as that's the Thai way.
  3. In answer to the OP's question, the former. The first indication on products was probably warning people that the coffee in their cup was hot. Then there was the label on some clothes to remove child before washing. and now.....
  4. Great that they forgot to pixilate the photos of this 'criminal'. I think the issue is that her passport was revoked as she hurt the feelings of the Myanmar murderers military. In that case, immigration would have been in their rights to refuse entry to someone without a valid passport. Going public in condemning a military regime is a very commendable but dangerous and silly path to take.
  5. Yes. That has as much validity as saying that Thailand is a Buddhist country. Probably all begun originally as more lies fantasy from TAT.
  6. What is the point of the photo? It shows nothing, so why use it?
  7. I believe that it's illegal to ride in one, that's all, Of course, whether something is illegal or not has no relevance in Thailand, so many people do despite the obvious danger. They simply don't care because playing Russian Roulette with their life is exciting.
  8. That's a given, doesn't matter what country your in, same applies at Pedestrian or Zebra crossings, your life is in your own hands, trust no one who drives a car/truck or rides a bike as they are all lethal weapons on the move so to speak. RIP Edited 11 minutes ago by 4MyEgo Add to that always, always look both ways when crossing a one-way street. There is a road through a market area near me which is one-way, but there are several cars or bikes a minute ignoring that. If the police cared, which they don't, they could make a fortune in fines, many thousands of baht a day. And it would end the chaos in the narrow road within days as word got around, Until next week, anyway.
  9. So that negates having to drive safely? I wonder what the emergency was that they didn't get to.
  10. Extraordinary, isn't it. They must all be magnetized. There can be no other explanation.
  11. Why does there need to be a law at all? Let market forces dictate when a business is open. It has nothing at all to do with government, and not just in Thailand. Also, will entertainment workers be paid more to work the extra hours, time many of them now use to go out and party with their friends in Thai-oriented places that somehow are allowed to open until dawn or later.
  12. Tell that to the 200K+ grieving families in the UK. I know and you know that the overwhelming number of those deaths took place in the early months of the pandemic. So now give us the number who have died this year with the far, far milder form of the virus. You know, balance.
  13. My wife this week attended a seminar, where everyone wore masks even though seated with much space between them - for the reason you describe. Then they all posed for photos. close-up, without masks, as everyone knows you can't catch Covid while in front of a camera. Just another example of the total lack of common sense that is so common here.
  14. Two deaths, which is tragic. How many took the vaccine without dying? Give both sides of the story, not just one.
  15. Speaking with reporters, General Supot said the move to put the emergency behind the kingdom was being driven by the urgent need to deal with the economic challenges the country is facing. As usual in Thailand, it's all about the money. That over-rides any lingering health concerns. Actually, they could have done this many months ago. I wonder how long it will be, if ever, before Thais stop wearing face masks. My guess is that many will continue to wear them until the day they die. There are concerns about the trend in visitor numbers and patterns over the last few months within Thailand’s recovering foreign tourism industry with a lack of long-haul visitors. Well, in case the government hasn't noticed, people living in those long-haul countries are suffering hugely from massively increased energy costs. In my native UK, they now face large mortgage increases as well. Some, many, families are having to somehow find perhaps 1000 pounds a month more to cover costs. The very last thing they want to do, with an uncertain future, is buy tickets to Thailand. Their priority is keeping warm this winter and being able to put food on the table. I'm very, very glad I'm not there.
  16. A Lambo driver facing jail? Really? In Thailand? Deep pockets will reveal a misunderstanding.
  17. What is the point of publishing a photo that shows nothing? Just one of those things in Thailand that makes no sense and is done to no practical purpose. I wonder what the editor had in mind. Happens all the time. Bizarre.
  18. This is a forum about Thailand so I referred to Thai politicians.
  19. That's because she charges 100% commission for her retrieval of winnings service. Get a new wife ????
  20. It's just one of the things about Thailand that I'll never understand. In a country where saving face is so important, even more than life itself on occasions, we regularly have someone come out with absolute nonsense about something they clearly have no proper understanding of and haven't thought through, making themselves look like fools. It happens several times a week. Baffling.
  21. And, in time-honoured Thai government fashion, it doesn't stop him mouthing off about something he is unqualified to comment on ????
  22. Does he have any qualifications as an economist? Just asking.
  23. I'd guess that many would still demand 'compensation' from the rich farang, and if the police get a cut then they'd likely 'suggest' very strongly that you comply. It must be your fault regardless, as that voids them of any responsibility. In my 26 years here I've only once seen anyone take responsibility for anything.
  24. We are all aware that kids who are far too young to be able to control a motorcycle, let alone legally be driving it, are a common sight on Thai roads. Many of them will die, often before they even reach their teen years, but no-one seems to care. The police rarely do anything to stop them, but even more baffling is why their parents allow them on the road? I was prompted to write now because two kids were nearly killed right outside my house today. The driver looked about seven and his passenger maybe four. What alerted it to me was the sound of horns and air brakes, and there was a large lorry pulled right across the two-lane road after he had taken evasive action - action that left the lorry inches from a pickup that had been pulling out onto the road. The kids then roared off down the road, on the wrong side with the driver not even looking at the road as he preferred to stare at me for the first 100 metres. I doubt they'll live until the weekend, but no-one cares. Someone gave them the keys and happily sent them off to a possible death. Why? Of course, the kids may not have been sent out by parents as so many parents don't actually raise their own kids, but dump them on elderly grandparents who probably struggle to look after themselves, let alone a boisterous kid. Still, it's their kids, their culture, their problem, so why should we care if they don't? But what happens if someone dies by crashing into your car, or mine?
  25. Queen Elizabeth II has just Lain in State in a building that has lasted 1,000 years. These buildings have barely lasted 1,000 days.
