Facebook-IG Outage Sends Online World into Chaos
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
If something as big as Facebook can go down worldwide, then what about other more vital infrastructure damaged by accident or sabotage. I think it's only a matter of time before we wake up and find, say, electric grids have been deliberately fried by those who would prefer us to live in the stone age like them. The authorities always insist they have safeguards - just like companies who tell you your data is safe with them, until it isn't. -
Lampang teacher under fire for broomstick beating of student
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Chiang Mai News
One of the things that kids are taught in Thai schools is that violence is okay. The uncle doesn't even want the police involved, just an apology. He knows that involving the police would be pointless anyway, I suppose. It usually is in such cases. How often do we read of the teacher, whether for assault or even rape, being punished? All gone quiet from the school. Of course, the useless reporter could have called the school for a comment as any journalist would in the real world or face the sack for not doing their job properly, but that obviously never occurred to her or her equally useless editor. But then, look at the source.... -
Lampang teacher under fire for broomstick beating of student

A foreigner 'kicks' someone sitting on his steps (still seen no video evidence of that, by the way, only of the Swiss bully approaching) and a mob demonstrates. A teacher viciously assaults a little kid, and not a word of protest, no word from the teacher, no word from the school Total silence. They ARE the facts. One minor indiscretion by a foreign bully and a mob appears to protest. A serious assault by a Thai teacher on a child and nothing. How is that manipulating the facts? How? -
Now this is very interesting. So far 10 out of 10 houses there are found to be illegal. If immigration don't get him his neighbours might, for putting their place in paradise - and I use the term loosely as it's Phuket - in jeopardy. How many are owned rather than rented, I wonder. Might be some great imminent business for the local removal company. But corruption in land title deeds? Nah, it must be a misunderstanding.
-
And when they refuse? As they would. We just have to suck it up. Same corruption all over the poorest countries in SE Asia - or any part of the world I'd guess. Gone across the border to Laos lately? Funny how the poorest countries are the most corrupt, and the most successful are the least corrupt.

Foreign man caught on CCTV stealing Thai flag in Phuket
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Phuket News
Where does it say the authorities have taken action? They've been urged to by outraged citizens. Good luck with that. They aren't exactly known for taking action over anything. -
Thai airlines soar to record profits amid tourism boom

I guess that's what happens when you raise fares. Profits rise too. Who'da thunk it. -
Violent clash between Thai and Filipino trans groups rocks Bangkok
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Bangkok News
I guess you only read the headline. The Thai group assembled in response to an incident on March 5, where a Thai ladyboy was assaulted and robbed by a group of about 20 Filipino ladyboys. -
Thai racing champion faces backlash after gym altercation
Bangkok Barry replied to snoop1130's topic in Central Thailand News
Except there is an outcry and demonstrations about one assault, and not another. Very selective. Perhaps your small mind doesn't recognise that. -

Thai businessman loses millions to virtual love affair
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
You do not 'date' someone on-line. And you do not send 4 million to someone you've never properly met, if ever. -
I remember the last PM saying that only ugly women should wear a bikini after a tourist was raped, and when another tourist was murdered he told her parents they could just make another one. The same PM who told students they needn't learn English as one day all the world will speak Thai.

Thais very often take everything to extremes. They have little to no sense of moderation. Play music at max volume, drive at max speed no matter the conditions, kick people in the head when down, and so on. But how often do we see such public outrage at Thais behaving badly, hmm?\
-
I agree. It's Vindictive Against Farang Week, with minor events making headline news with calls to deport the offender. I'd say that the blocking of an ambulance as this arrogant idiot did was far more serious an offence, but nothing happened then, did it. Kick a Thai, hang him.
-
It's interesting how much publicity and public outrage this has created. A day or so later a tourist was mown down and killed on a pedestrian crossing by a hit and run, and not a whisper. That's normal I suppose, while kicking someone isn't. And don't take this post as support for the arrogant Swiss, who I'd rather see spend six months in a Thai jail than only be deported - if he ever is, as he isn't short of a baht or two. His problem in this case though is that he attacked a Thai, so money might not talk.

Foreign Man Throws Glass At A Thai Woman In A Dog Cafe
Bangkok Barry replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
But that isn't what happened, is it. That is a whole different level, injuring a child. You are not the first to suggest he should be arrested because of what might have happened, but didn't. What might have happened is entirely irrelevant. He realised his error due to a misunderstanding of whose dog was annoying him, and apologised. Is he a short-tempered idiot? Of course. Should he have been in a place that welcomes dogs if they annoy him? No. Does a flash of temper mean he should be arrested? Not in my opinion. If he had continued his aggressive behaviour then yes, but he didn't. Storm in a teacup which the victim, and many commenting here, are ready to blow up into a major incident that demands police action, arrest and an appearance in court and possibly a criminal record. My opinion, and I accept there are those who disagree, is that his apology should have been enough, perhaps together with a financial consideration as that is the custom here. -

I might have done that once or twice in over 14,000 posts. As you are such an astute observer of my posts, and I thank you for your interest, perhaps you can show me where you think such reports, if they exist, were unjustified. And where I've said only my opinion matters. As I said, you have your opinion and I have mine. If it upsets you that they are not the same as yours I really don't care. You are trying to judge my character without knowing anything about me. I believe in calming a situation in which no serious damage was done, and you would make a huge issue of it, call the police over a minor incident which could see the perpetrator in court with a criminal record. Okay. I disagree. You do seem to like inflating a situation, first what if this, that and the other happened, which it didn't, and then demanding police action over something the perpetrator apologised for. That might to some suggest you are a troublemaker rather than a peacemaker. -

None of that happened. He apologised to her and that should have been the end of it. Doesn't mean the guy wasn't a short-tempered idiot who'd had too much to drink, but to get the police involved? Did it really need escalating? I have my opinion and you have yours, if that's okay with you. But you have conjured up all kinds of things that didn't happen. A split second mistake for which he apologised. -
Woman dies in Lamphun as pickup crashes into tree

You just have to laugh, don't you. Otherwise you'd cry. Who's going to tell them. And would they listen anyway. -

I'm not condoning his behaviour, but calling the police because someone throws a glass at you is a bit over the top. Was it only because he was a foreigner, I wonder?
