  1. You're forgetting social media, and the people that pick it up and spread it throughout the country and the world. And if it then attracts attention from overseas the embarrassed and useless government promises a crackdown which would last a couple of days if it even happens at all.
  2. And Japanese wages compared to Thai. Comparing prices between countries is pointless unless you factor in the wage level of each.
  3. The government has no interest in it as I doubt that many ministers take taxis. If they really wanted to solve the problem of drivers not using the meter or refusing a fare, refusing to take money from potential passengers and then claiming they are poor, they only need to get a few dozen, maybe more, soldiers out of their barracks where they do who knows what all day, dress them in civilian clothes and set them the task of trying to actually get a taxi driver to do their job and if they refuse then arrest and fine them a few thousand baht (they can afford it as they are so rich they don't need passengers in their taxi to make money). Second offence, remove their license. If they attack passengers, send them straight to jail. Start outside hotels and shopping malls. But, as with every law that is ignored, no-one actually cares. It's just the normal way of life which every Thai knows will never change. The problem for Thailand is that sometimes foreigners get caught up in the anarchy and don't accept it as normal, and they don't stick their head in the sand but let others know what has happened. In this case, the Japanese are not too keen on that kind of treatment and might decide there are better places to visit, places with a semblance of law and good manners.
  4. Not being American, I have no idea why there has to be an EC. In other democracies the people vote, the votes are counted and the one with the most votes wins. It's really that simple. Another thing I don't understand about the American system is that after serving two terms the only person in America who is banned from standing for President is the President. Doesn't matter how good he has been for the country (and I know that no leader of any country is perfect in office), they are banned. And so the US got Trump instead of Obama, although Hillary Clinton wouldn't have been great either. It baffles me how a country of over 330,000,000 can't find anyone other than a dangerous ego-maniac or a geriatric to run for President. Cue posts about Obama being a total failure who ruined America and Trump or Biden are better suited to be President.....
  5. It's surprising how many people on this thread, and others, comment without reading the linked article first. Why would anyone do that, comment without being properly informed so that they actually know what they are commenting on, instead of coming up with all kids of erroneous theories and false assumptions.
  6. I had the same experience trying to change Thai baht in a German bank. No way of telling where the baht came from as there was no indication in English.
  7. Or you could have read the linked report so you'd know what is said to have happened instead of speculating.
  8. And that man is??? I guess you're asking as you didn't bother to read the linked report. I'll pick the info out for you: On February 1st, he stayed with a man identified only as Mr. Ozeias, 46, a British national at a condominium in Mai Khao, Thalang. On February 5th, he transferred crypto money to the value of 34,900 Usd (1.24 million Baht) to Mr. Ozeias. He received Euro cash in exchange from Mr. Ozeias which totalled about 674,800 Baht in value. You're welcome.
  9. That means phoning someone and asking questions, such as yesterday when someone wrote a report about police taking no action for nine months in a case involving a child rape. Did that reporter phone them and ask why? Of course not. It's something people in Thailand are told not to do from a very young age. Hardly great training for a journalist.
  10. They were probably on because someone was out of his seat trying to get the door open. Just a suggestion.
  11. Funny how so many of these accidents/suicide missions happen around the same time as the bars close, isn't it.
  12. That's interesting.
  13. It's the Thai way, isn't it. It is always, always, always someone else's fault. I've had plenty of 'customer unable to accept delivery' comments, when they haven't tried to deliver. In addition to what I just wrote, I'm guessing their app has no button that says 'couldn't be bothered to deliver today'.
  14. Just another Thaiger 'journalist' trying to use words he doesn't understand. Get used to it.
  15. It's okay. They don't expect anyone to take any notice. But he has done his job by speaking, even if it does make him look like an idiot completely out of touch with reality.
  16. Govt Wants People to Reduce Incense Crop Burning for Chinese New Year to Stop Air Pollution There. Fixed it. Nothing new in the government asking people to stop polluting, of course. And nothing new in everyone completely ignoring what the law and government says. Same old same old.
  17. Unless you over-celebrate, and then it might be a problem the next day
  18. Nice to see someone who understood what they read instead of leaping to wrong conclusions, reading something that wasn't there.
  19. Am I not allowed to celebrate ? Up to you. Several people seem to think a three-week holiday is planned. I nor any one else has any idea what the celebrations will include. Again, how you do that is up to you.
  20. You are one of those commentating who clearly has no understanding of me. I've been here nearly 30 years, living half of that in Bangkok and half in a village. So I think I understand Thailand pretty well and the native way of thinking. Up to a point of course, as their thinking often lacks any logic.
  21. It seems that you missed this part: However, the ministry kept the post on its website. Understandable, with yet another misleading headline. Note to whoever wrote it: The post was removed from Facebook. Removed suggests it was removed entirely. It was not.
  22. You are one of several commenting on this thread who are confusing the word 'celebration' with the word 'holiday'. There has been no mention of a three-week holiday, nor of three weeks of water madness. Even the morons who spend many hours a day throwing water over strangers are tired of it after two or three days. It certainly won't go on for three weeks. Of course, we are not told what the three weeks of celebration actually entail. Such announcements are often short of detail, so everyone is left to make their own conclusions. But I'm sure it won't include what you suggest. Relax.
  23. It isn't a holiday. It's a celebration.
  24. It isn't a holiday. It's a celebration.
